BLAME IT ON RIO? Rudy Giuliani Will not Run For NY Senate Seat in 2010
America’s Mayor Rudy Giuliani will not run for the NY United States Senate seat in 2010 against Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand. Rudy Giuliani had a double digit lead in the polls against Gillibrand as well. Sad news for the Republican Party and their efforts to take back the Senate.
Rudy Giuliani is set to throw his endorsement to 2010 GOP gubernatorial hopeful Rick Lazio a press conference tomorrow, where he’s also expected to indicate he’s not running for US Senate himself next year, Republican sources told The Post.
The move likely closes the electoral career of Giuliani, who was known as “America’s Mayor” for his leadership in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, and who has since created a multi-tiered career of speeches, consulting and security work, and a law practice.
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is expected to announce Tuesday that he is not running for the U.S. Senate or any other political office in 2010. The decision puts an obvious damper on Republicans hopes for a Senate seat pick up in 2010. As Hot Air states a RUDY win would have been good for the Republican Party in so many ways.
A Rudy win would have given the party a foothold again in the northeast and a voice with a Senate megaphone to challenge Obama on detainee issues, for starters. And of course it would have undercut the media stereotype that the GOP is a small tent that’s dominated now by tea partiers and the like. All that, up in smoke.
I would second Jammie Wearing Fool’s comment that Giuliani’s decision comes as a complete surprise as RUDY was a lock to win the Senate seat.

Don’t forget his early accomplishments before 9-11 like cleaning up the city and bringing back New York as Americas crown jewel.
Yes Rusty, he’s done alot of good. my thinking is Rudy feels he can do more good elsewhere. We all know being in public office is tough because all both sides do is beat their heads against one another. The few bold enough to stand out get slammed by both sides.
He like Condi Rice and others probably simply do not want to deal with it. Hard to blame them.
