Dashcam Video Shows Sheriff’s Deputy Rescuing 2 Year Old Toddler Running Down Oregon Highway

In the blink of an eye a tragedy nearly happened and was prevented. Lincoln Couty, OR Sheriff’s Deputy Jeremy Gautney was driving on U.S. 101 in the coastal city of Newport on Jan. 9, 2016 apparently a rainy evening, when he spotted the 2-year-old running down the middle turn lane toward his patrol car. It turns out that the child’s parents were frantically searching for the little boy, who had escaped from a nearby community center gathering. Thankfully, Deputy Jeremy Gautney was able to rescue the child before any harm came to the toddler. You will see at the end of the video a truck passes closely by the area where the toddler would have been. The child was returned to his parents safely, no charges were filed.

After a toddler was spotted running down the middle of a dark highway by a sheriff’s deputy who rescued him in Oregon, the Sheriff’s Office released dashcam video of the incident as a way of warning motorists about the dangers distracted driving.
The video was posted by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office on Facebook on Thursday.
Sheriff’s Deputy Jeremy Gautney was driving on U.S. 101 in the coastal city of Newport on Jan. 9, apparently a rainy evening, when he spotted the 2-year-old running down the middle turn lane toward his patrol car.
Gautney quickly stopped his vehicle, got out and scooped up the toddler, the video shows.
A big rig passes by in the oncoming lane just seconds later.
