Crazed Gunman Fatally Shoots WBDJ7 Reporter & Camara Man in Middle of Live TV Interview – VIDEO (Update: Victims Allison Parker & Adam Ward)(Update: Shooter ID’s as Vester Flanagan, Also used the name Bryce Williams)

HORRIFIC MURDER OF REPORTER AND CAMERAMAN AS THEY DID A LIVE O AIR INTERVIEW …

It is something that one would never think they would see. In the middle of a live TV interview, a WDBJ reporter and her cameraman were shot dead. This did not take place in Iraq or Afghanistan, the double live on air murder took place in Virginia. The shooting happened around 6:45 a.m. at Bridgewater Plaza in Franklin County, as Parker interviewed Gardner about the upcoming 50th anniversary festivities for Smith Mountain Lake, a local tourism destination. The murder victims were reporter Victims Allison Parker and her camera man Adam Ward. The individual who was being interviewed, Vicki Gardner, executive director of the Smith Mountain Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce, was shot in the back, and transported to the hospital.

The live spot by reporter Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward was nothing out of the ordinary: They were interviewing a local official at an outdoor shopping mall for a tourism story. Then, at about 6:45 a.m., morning show viewers saw her suddenly scream and run, crying “Oh my God,” as she fell. Ward fell, too, and the camera he had been holding on his shoulder captured a fleeting image of the suspect holding a handgun.

WDBJ quickly switched back to the anchor at the station, her eyes large and jaw dropping as she said, “OK, not sure what happened there.” The station later went live again, reporting on their own staff as the story developed.

UPDATE I: WDBJ Newsroom Reacts Emotionally to On-Air Deaths of Reporter, Photographer as Tragic Personal Details Are Revealed

On the air, several shocked WDBJ-TV anchors reacted to the tragedy and remembered the victims:

“We realize, we cover stories of people being shot all the time, and so now we realize firsthand what so many of you have sadly gone through,” one of the anchors said as she fought back tears. “That when it’s someone you know; and someone you love and care about; and someone you work with day in and day out; and someone so young, it makes it so tough.”

UPDATE II: Parker and Ward died at the scene. Their interview subject, Vicki Gardner, was in stable condition later Wednesday after surgery for her wounds.

On Wednesday, after Parker and Ward’s deaths, Twitter and Facebook accounts under the name Bryce Williams shared graphic video of the shooting filmed from the perspective of the gunman. However, after sharing the videos, his Facebook and Twitter accounts were later suspended.

UPDATE III: Here’s What We Know About The Man Who murdered  Allison Parker & Adam Ward.

Vester Flanagan, who also used the name Bryce Williams, was a former TV reporter for WDBJ. He uploaded videos online showing himself fatally shooting WDBJ reporter Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward on Wednesday.

The man who authorities said fatally shot Virginia reporter Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward during a live broadcast Wednesday before killing himself is a former television reporter for the same station.

Vester Lee Flanagan II, 41, who also used the name Bryce Williams, was employed at WDBJ-TV between 2012 and 2013 as a multimedia journalist, the station’s general manager, Jeff Marks, said.

Speaking Wednesday on air, his former WDBJ colleagues said that Bryce Williams was the name he used on television.

“Vester was an unhappy man. We employed him as a reporter and he had some talent in that respect and some experience,” Marks said. “He quickly gathered a reputation of someone who was difficult to work with. He was sort of looking out to people to say things he could take offense to. Eventually, after many incidents of his anger, we dismissed him. He did not take that well. We had to call police to escort him from the building.”

UPDATE IV: Vicki Gardner, executive director of the Smith Mountain Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce.

The chamber of commerce executive shot during a live news broadcast in Virginia was in stable condition Wednesday after undergoing emergency surgery, officials said.

Vicki Gardner, executive director of the Smith Mountain Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce, was shot in the back, said Barb Nocera, the chamber’s special projects manager.

Gardner was recovering at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, hospital president Steve Arner said. Gardner is also a member of the hospital’s board of directors and is “a close friend” of the institution, he said in a statement.

This is a sad and ugly story. One person severely wounded and two young budding professionals dead all from the anger of a person fired for bad conduct.

This perp should have never been on the street. The TV station should have taken steps at the time of his firing to have him placed in a mental hospital for evaluation.

This perp should have his life examined from the time he was in high school. Based on what has been reported, but not verified, it appears that he was a victim of Affirmative Action. Where he was not taught the skills that a news reporter needed to be successful although he was given the grades and a degree. When he joined the real world work force he found his skill set below those needed to succeed and became angry.

We now have four victims of the feel good Affirmative Action program, three of whom had no part in the creation of the situation.

This has nothing to do with guns and everything to do with poor decisions. Guns don’t kill, people do.
