The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office said Matthew was located on the beach in Gilcrest on the Bolivar Peninsula around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

According to Galveston County Judge Mark Henry, deputies received a call about a suspicious person camping in a tent on the beach. A deputy responded and ran the license plate of the suspicious person’s vehicle.

The license plate came back as “hot,” or wanted, said Henry, who was briefed on the circumstances.

Henry told Local 2 investigative reporter Jace Larson that Matthew did not resist arrest. The light blue Nissan Sentra found nearby was impounded.

According to Virginia State Police, Jesse Matthew, the man facing abduction with intent to defile charges in connection with the Hannah Graham case, has been linked to another high profile disappearance.

Police confirm that forensic evidence links Matthew to the Harrington case. Harrington, a Virginia Tech student at the time, was abducted and murdered in Charlottesville in 2009 after leaving a Metallica concert at John Paul Jones Arena.

DNA evidence was collected from the site where Harrington’s remains were found on Anchorage Farm in Albemarle County three months after her disappearance. State police have said there is a link between Harrington’s case and a 2005 Fairfax City sexual assault. Police have not released whether Matthew is connected to the Fairfax case. …

Unknown Offender Linked by DNA in Two Separate Cases

      06/13/12

On a Saturday night in October 2009, college student Morgan Harrington left a Metallica concert at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville and disappeared. It would be several months before her body was discovered in a field about 10 miles away. ….

DNA recovered in the Harrington case was linked to an unknown offender in a September 2005 sexual assault in Fairfax City. A 26-year-old woman was attacked at night while walking home from a grocery store. The offender was scared away by a passerby—but the victim got a good look at him, enabling a Fairfax City Police artist to produce a sketch of the attacker.

“It was a remarkable break to get the DNA match,” said FBI Special Agent Jane Collins. The forensic evidence linked the two cases, so now we have a face to put with the suspect in the Harrington case. The suspect is described as an African-American male with black hair and facial hair (at the time of the 2005 attack). He is approximately 6 feet tall and was believed to be between the ages of 25 and 35 years old at the time of the Fairfax City assault.
