As City of Detroit Declares Bankruptcy … New $444 Million Hockey Arena for Red Wings Still a Go

Welcome to crony capitalism … The city of Detroit is in financial ruin, has become the largest city in the United States to declare bankruptcy, yet the $444 million hockey arena for the NHL’s Detroit Red Wings goes forward. Re you kidding me. Detroit cannot keep their streets lit and it takes nearly an hour for police response, yet its some how a priority to spend another $400 million of tax payer dollars on a hockey stadium whose owners are worth billions. How does this make sense in the face of a complete and colossal financial collapse? 40% of streetlights remain dark, fire and police forces are cut, schools are a disgrace, 79,000 empty buildings need to be dealt with, and the public pension system is bleeding the city but a shiny new hockey stadium in the middle of an impoverished war zone is a priority. UNREAL!

Detroit’s financial crisis hasn’t derailed the city’s plans to spend more than $400 million in Michigan taxpayer funds on a new hockey arena for the Red Wings.

Advocates of the arena say it’s the kind of economic development needed to attract both people and private investment dollars into downtown Detroit. It’s an argument that has convinced Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder and Kevyn Orr, the emergency manager he appointed to oversee the city’s finances, to stick with the plan. Orr said Detroit’s bankruptcy filing won’t halt the arena plans.

“I know there’s a lot of emotional concern about should we be spending the money,” said Orr. “But frankly that’s part of the economic development. We need jobs. If it is as productive as it’s supposed to be, that’s going to be a boon to the city.”

But critics say the project won’t have enough economic impact to justify the cost, and that it’s the wrong spending priority for a city facing dire economic conditions.

Who wants to go to a hockey game in the middle of hell? Seriously, in lieu of spending funds on police and firefighters, the money goes to a sports stadium instead. What is something happens to one of the patrons of the sporting event, will the police ever show? As opined by the American Thinker, “do these people have a death wish?”

The “Hands On” & Sexual Harassment San Diego Democrat Mayor Bob Filner Will Enter Sex Treatment For 2 Weeks, Instead of Resigning

The “hands on” San Diego Democratic Mayor Bob Filner, who has been implicated in numerous inappropriate conduct and sexual harassment allegations  toward women has announced today that he will enter treatment in August for two weeks instead of resigning. Good Grief! Seriously, after 70 years this creepy politician thinks that a two week therapy program is going to make him a better person? He is going to enter therapy for behavior conduct. Huh, at ate 70 if you d not know how to behave as an individual, you will never know.  This is yet another example of a politician consumed by power and who is willing to make any excuse to retain that power. More and more woman are coming forward and this man’s idea is to just enter rehab and call himself better?  Just curious, how did that work for Anthony Weiner?

During a press conference on Friday, Filner said that beginning Aug. 5, he will enter a 2-week intensive therapy program.

“Words alone are not enough,” he said. “I am responsible for my conduct and I must take responsibility for my actions.” Filner called his actions “wrong” and “inexcusable” and said he has reached out to apologize to the women he has offended.

Filner said the counseling was just the first step in a continuing program, but insisted he would return to office on Aug. 19. “I must become a better person,” the mayor said, adding he hopes that someday he will be forgiven. “I need to demonstrate my behavior has changed.”

As Democrat Bob Filner tries to cling on to power as the mayor of  San Diego, polls says that nearly 70% say the mayor should resign.

This sexually harassing, low life actually blames his piggish behavior of his generation. Really? You know how you take responsibility for your conduct sir, you resign from office. PERIOD, THE END!

So far seven woman have come forward to accuse San Diego Mayor Bob Filner of unwanted sexual advances and inappropriate conduct.

So far, it’s only women who’ve come forward, or filed lawsuits, and there is no telling how many more will follow.

“Bob Filner gives a whole new meaning to the phrase ‘hands-on’ government. He is so yucky,” a waitress at a San Diego restaurant told me last week.  She asked for anonymity along with my order lest she put her job at risk.

The Buckeye Firearms Foundation Raises $12K To Buy George Zimmerman Guns & Security Systems (Update: Appears Massive Denial of Service Attack of Website)

An Ohio firearms group, the Buckeye Firearms Foundation, has raised $12,000 for George Zimmerman to be speant on guns and security systems. George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch volunteer, was found not guilty of murder and manslaughter earlier this month by a jury in the death of Trayvon Martin. However, since the verdict Zimmerman and his family have received countless death threats. This donation was also a reaction to Attorney General Eric Holder and the DOJ not giving Zimmerman’s gun back following his trial.  The check for $12,150.37 sent to George Zimmerman could also be used in his legal defense.

An Ohio firearms group has raised more than $12,000 to be spent on guns or a security system for George Zimmerman, the former neighborhood watch volunteer who was acquitted in the fatal shooting of unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin in Florida. But the money could end up being used to pay for Zimmerman’s defense costs and fees.

The $12,150.37 check that the group wrote to Zimmerman is the result of a fundraising effort that was launched because the group believes Zimmerman’s gun rights are being violated by the U.S. Department of Justice. The department has taken all the evidence from the trial, including the gun that killed Martin, as part of a civil rights investigation.

UPDATE I: It appears the website of the Buckeye Firearms Foundation has experienced a massive denial of service attack. Is it any wonder why the Gerstle family, who was helped rescued by George Zimmerman when their SUV over-turned, wanted to stay out of the public eye for fear of being attacked themselves.

A Denial of Service web attack took down the Ohio-based Buckeye Firearms Association website on Wednesday after the association sent George Zimmerman a check to purchase a new firearm.

Director of Marketing and Communications Dean Rieck sent out an email statement Wednesday afternoon, saying the overwhelming attack took out both Buckeye Firearms Association and Buckeye Firearms Foundation’s websites.

“Our IT guy says it’s a ‘denial of service’ or DoS attack. This is not the ordinary ‘hack’ attack that we’ve experienced many times in the past,” Rieck said. ”A DoS attack involves using significant resources to bombard a server to temporarily or permanently disrupt service.”

More Unions Buyers Remorse … IRS Employee Union: We Don’t Want Obamacare … Special Rules for Government

OBAMACARE FOR THEE, NOT FOR ME (IRS) … From the individuals who are supposed to enforce Obamacare … We want no part of Obamacare.

Now the union that represents the IRS wants no part of Obamacare. How comical is this? The very people that are set to enforce many parts of Obamacare are now saying that do not want Obamacare. So the thought process from the IRS is Obamacare for thee, not for me? So says the unions that backed Obamacare when it was rammed down the throats of “We the People”. Currently the NTEU represents 150,000 federal employees overall, including most of the nearly 100,000 IRS workers where they get their health insurance through the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program, which also covers members of Congress. However, the implementation of Obamacare means that the IRS employees could be put on the healthcare exchanges where they would lose their current insurance and possible no longer go to their current doctors. How does it feel unions to have Obama’s lies on Obamacare affect you too?

IRS employees have a prominent role in Obamacare, but their union wants no part of the law.

National Treasury Employees Union officials are urging members to write their congressional representatives in opposition to receiving coverage through President Obama’s health care law.

The union leaders are providing members with a form letter to send to the congressmen that says “I am very concerned about legislation that has been introduced by Congressman Dave Camp to push federal employees out of the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program and into the insurance exchanges established under the Affordable Care Act.”

The NTEU represents 150,000 federal employees overall, including most of the nearly 100,000 IRS workers.

As stated at the American Thinker, a proposal by House Ways and Means Committee chair Dave Camp to place all federal employees, including congress and their staffs, under Obamacare is being met with stiff resistance from the IRS employee union charged with enforcing it. Many politicians, both Democrat and Republican, are against this proposal as they will lose their Cadillac insurance plans. But what should we expect from an elitists and entitled politicians who think they are better than than “We the People” and who have forgot a long time ago that they work for us, not the other way around.

EXIT QUESTION: Why should politicians and their staff be subject to another set of rules than the laws they pass an inflict crap legislation like Obamacare on “We the People”?

Two people are missing and four were injured when a boat crashed on the Hudson River near the Tappan Zee Bridge in New York. The incident took place at 10:40 pm Friday when a 21-foot Stingray powerboat crashed into a barge. The boat was carrying a bride-to-be, her fiancé and his best man when it  crashed into three construction barges Friday night, badly injuring four and ejecting the bride and best man into the water. The boat was headed from Piermont to Tarrytown. Stewart’s fiancé, Brian Bond, was taken to Westchester Medical Center to be treated for a fractured eye socket. According to reports, Brian Bond placed the 911 call after regaining consciousness. Divers were brought in to search for the missing man and woman.

Four people were injured late Friday and two others were missing after a boat struck a barge in the Hudson River just south of the Tappan Zee Bridge.

Rescue workers searched almost three hours for the two missing boaters, one woman and one man, using boats and helicopters between Piermont and the Tappan Zee Bridge. The search was called off shortly before 1:30 a.m. Saturday.

The crash, which involved a 21-foot Stingray powerboat, was reported at 10:40 p.m., said Ali Flockerzi, a U.S. Coast Guard spokeswoman. The vessel struck a barge. There are numerous barges moored north and south of the bridge — some holding cranes and others holding equipment — as work on the new Tappan Zee bridge ramps up.

UPDATE I: The missing woman as been identified as 30 year old Piermont resident Lindsey Stewart.

A joyride on the Hudson River turned horrific after a speedboat carrying a bride-to-be, her fiancé, and his best man crashed into three construction barges Friday night, badly injuring four and ejecting the bride and best man into the dark water of the Hudson.

WABC-TV identified the missing woman as 30-year-old Piermont resident Lindsey Stewart, whose wedding was only two weeks away. The missing man was identified as her fiancé’s best man.

Sadly. officials are saying Saturday that they are now entering the recovery phase of their search for the two missing boaters, who are presumed dead.

UPDATE II: Female body pulled from Hudson River presumed to be Bride-to-be Lindsey Stewart.

Authorities pulled a female body from the Hudson River on Saturday near where a bride-to-be and her fiance’s best man were hurled into the water when a speedboat carrying six friends crashed into a construction barge near the Tappan Zee Bridge.

Officials said they were working to confirm that it was the body of 30-year-old Lindsey Stewart, who has been missing since the Friday night accident.

The search for the missing man, identified by Stewart’s family as Mark Lennon, was continuing, said Rockland County under sheriff Robert VanCura.

UPDATE III: Police have charged speed boat operator, Jojo John, with vehicular manslaughter. John is suspected of operating the boat that crashed into the barges while intoxicated.

Authorities charged the boat’s operator, Jojo John, 35, of Nyack, with vehicular manslaughter and vehicular assault. He was arraigned from a hospital bed and ordered held on $250,000 bond, Barbera said. John is suspected of operating the boat while intoxicated but authorities are still awaiting the result of blood tests.

UPDATE IV: Second Body Found in Hudson River … Believed to be that of Missing Mark Lennon.

A recreational jet-skiier spotted a body believed to be Mark Lennon, the man thrown from the powerboat that crashed into a barge near the Tapan Zee Bridge on the Hudson River late Friday night, authorities said Sunday afternoon. The bride-to-be also was killed, and four people, including the groom, were seriously injured.

Rockland County Sheriff Louis Falco said the jet-skiier, a civilian not involved in the search, spotted the body a mile south of the Piermont Pier at 11:12 a.m.
