Kenilworth Junior High School in Petaluma, CA Bans ‘Too Tight’ Pants for Girls Because it Distracts Boys

OK, more insanity from California … Is this a double standard, wrong message, or both?

The Kenilworth Junior High School in Petaluma, California has made a change in their dress code and has banned “too tight” pants for girls. The school administrator claims that it is too distracting for the boys. WOW, talk about your war on woman school girl and one-sided dress code. Let me first start by saying that all parents might want to check out what their kids are wearing before they head off to school. That being said, how is it that they are now passing such a dress code change this far into a school year? Two, the school is banning “to tight” pants on girls because it is distracting to boys, really? One has to wonder how they are not teaching the boys to be a bit more respectful of girls, no matter what they are wearing. It is almost as if the school is perpetuating the notion that the girl is asking for it because of what she is wearing. Some parents stated that it sends the wrong message to the young girls. Ya think?

A controversy at a Petaluma junior high school over a new dress code restriction on the kinds of pants girls can wear has upset students and parents.

At Kenilworth Junior High in Petaluma, a school administrator pulled all the girls aside Thursday afternoon and told them they couldn’t wear pants that were “too tight” because it distracts the boys.

Instead of heading to their last class Thursday, all the female students reported to the multi-use room and when they found out what it was about there was quite an uproar.

“It takes away like half of my clothes because I have a lot of yoga pants and leggings, so everyone’s kind of like mad about it,” said Makenna Mattei, a student.

“We didn’t think it was fair how we have all these restrictions on our clothing while boys didn’t have to sit through it at all,” said Brittany Kruljack, another student.

What exactly is the definition of “too tight”? Who exactly will be the arbitrator of such a rule? How exactly is such a rule written? Hello adults, have you seen the fashions that exist for young girls today? All of them pretty much out there to fit a girl’s body, otherwise they are called sweat pants.  Maybe the school administrators would prefer the girls wear burkas?

Just curious, what happens when the boys wear “too tight” pants? What about the transgender students?

One last comment, speaking from the male perspective … why is there such an issue now for boys that they cannot control themselves, haven’t girls been a distraction to boys since Adam and Eve? Just saying.

This issue is a two way street. Middle school children are in the process of producing grown up bodies. Clothing contributes to the problem.

There should be reasonable standards for boys and girls. Having spent time in the classroom where some girls think they are on the stage where values of undress are used for a point. These are children and should not be dressing for class as if they are part of a rock show.

Skirts that are too short and tops that are too skimpy contribute to the problem. Shorts being allowed in a regular classroom all contribute to a poor value system.

Where are the values of learning to become a proper lady? This begins with one’s appearance. Too much Hollywood, with nudity or near nudity influences the young who cannot make proper value judgements for themselves.

Children need guidance from dress codes for school. Why should clothing be a distraction from the primary task of learning?

Dress codes, no chewing gum, no eating candy and a hundred other things should be enforced in schools. It is a way to start to teach disciplain.
Then the next thing is to teach good manners. If this stuff is taught at home it should continue in the schools. If teachers would pay more attention to this kind of thing there jobs would be easier and the kids would learn to read and write.

This is so unfair! Boys shouldn’t be such animals that all they can do is stare at our butts. I agree that leggings shouldn’t be see through, but yoga pants and skinny jeans are fine. I go to Kenniworth and if they enforce this rule so much, the should enforce sagging the same way. They also don’t let us show are shoulders! It’s not all them boys going to be like oh look at the fine shoulders. Yoga pants and tank tops should not distract guys from learning!
