More records set by President Barack Obama. Disability benefits hit a record 8,827,795 in December 2012, up from 8,805,353 in November. Not only is Obama the Food Stamp president, he can now also be considered the Disability one as well. The problem is he cannot call himself the job growth president. How bad is it? In August 2012, only 16.2 people working for each person collecting disability. As compared in August 1967 when 65 Americans working for each worker collecting disability.

The Social Security program ran a $47.8 billion deficit in fiscal 2012 as the program brought in $725.429 billion in cash and paid $773.247 for benefits and overhead expenses, according to official data published by Social Security Administration.
The Social Security Administration also released new data revealing that the number of workers collecting disability benefits hit a record 8,827,795 in December–up from 8,805,353 in November.
The overall number of Social Security program beneficiaries—including retired workers, dependent family members and survivors and disabled workers and their dependent family members—also hit a record in December, climbing from 56,658,978 in November to 56,758,185 in December.

I hope you are enjoying the holidays. For the most part, I am in agreement with the opinions expressed here. My big issue is with broad statements expressed regarding Disability.
Recently, I completed a disability claim for my friend who has been disabled all his life, but he worked the only jobs he could get. His jobs were exhausting and dirty labor since he dropped out of school in 10th grade. He was unable to pass any further; because, he couldn’t read or write. God only knows how he got as far as he did. He worked all his life until 4 years ago and was laid off. At the last job he had, he was mocked and ridiculed due to his disability. They disposed of him like trash; because, they were worried that he might have recourse to their bullying. He wasn’t even able to understand how to get help let alone seek protection of his rights. I am his neighbor, and it was hard for me to bear this man’s sufferings. He had no job no insurance. I took him to a hospital and insisted they treat him, because, he was so ill. He was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer at 59. He has suffered extremely and needs a break at the end of his life. His application for disability was processed quickly, and his claim was approved immediately. I will not knock the Obama administration for this. Conservatives and Republicans need to stop putting themselves in the position of the enemy of the disabled. This is a big mistake for them.

SM: PA Mom, there are plenty of Americans that do require to be considered a disability. I always believe in a true safety net for those who actually need it. That is not the issue here. It is the ones that are scamming the system and a Nanny State govt that has lowered the standard to make many more people dependent on the govt and making tax payers foot the bill. The spike in the number of disabled is off the chart.

SM: You think having people opt to disability rather than working is a laughing matter? It is to the point, it shows how the mind set of a generation has changed. Is this too big of a concept to comprehend?
There should be an in depth investigation of all approved cases since 2009. These people have been handed a free ride on the SS account. Just another way to buy votes by the Democrats.
