Mother of Newtown, CT Shooter Nancy Lanza Feared Son Adam Was “Getting Worse” … Was Burning Himself With a Lighter … “She Was Losing Him”

In the days leading up to the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre, Nancy Lanza, the mother of mass murderer Adam Lanza feared that Adam was “getting worse” and she was “losing him”.  Nancy Lanza told a friend, that he [Adam] was burning himself with a lighter in his ankles or arms  … “It was like he was trying to feel something.” Nancy Lanza stated that she was having trouble reaching her son and things were getting worse.  That might be the understatement of the year.

Less than a week before her son would launch his horrifying attack on Sandy Hook Elementary School, gun-loving mom Nancy Lanza knew “she was losing him” and that “he was getting worse.”

A drinking buddy of Lanza’s told the Daily News that her son Adam had long been troubled and rarely came up in conversation.

“She just looked down at the glass and said, ‘I don’t know. I’m worried I’m losing him,’” said the bar pal, who asked not to be named, of the ominous conversation at the watering hole My Place in Newtown, Conn.

“She said it was getting worse. She was having trouble reaching him.”

The question remains, how does a parent knowing they have a troubled child who is getting worse not seek help and potentially institutionalize their child? This kid was obviously a danger to himself and as would play out last Friday morning in Newtown, CT, he became a danger to others. Before leaving for the Sandy Hook Elementary School, Adam Lanza shot his mother four times in the face in her bed at their home. Before leaving the home Adam tried to destroy one of his hardrives on his computer showing that he obviously knew what he was doing and was looking to cover it up.  Adam Lonza then went to the Sandy Hook Elementary School where he killed 26 individuals, including 20 children, 6 adults and then committed suicide once he heard police sirens and authorities on the way.

Good grief, a child with bonding issues, severe mental issues who was getting worse, incapable of felling, exposed to guns as a form of bonding, who was only exposed to violent video games and a computer as his social outlet and no one thought this was a bad thing. UNREAL. I do not wanty to hear she did not have the resources to deal with this child because she was a single mom. Did she even try or are we presented with another moocher who had to have govermnet take care of her situation? How did that work out for everyone?

This has become a story of a mother who could not think of placing her very sick and disturbed child into a facility for treatment. A story of a mother’s love that transcended common sense and concern for the child and the community. This is misplaced altrueism to the highest degree.

Not only did she pay the price for her behavior, the community and children at the grammer school were sacrificed so that she did not have to admit that she was caring for a son that she did not have the skills to help.

pretty easy to blame the mom, since she’s dead
” I do not wanty to hear she did not have the resources to deal with this child because she was a single mom. Did she even try or are we presented with another moocher who had to have govermnet take care of her situation? How did that work out for everyone?”
Did you also know this “moocher” lived on over 2 acres in a 3000+ sq ft very nice house? Did you know she was a retired stock broker? She had the means to support her family very well! Don’t forget to thank the “bushmaster friendly” NRA for making sure the equipment mass murderer’s need is ready available. Having received a “shooter on campus” message while my kids were in college, I’m ready for change

SM: You assume that a moocher is poor. That is not the case. A moocher is a mental state. Some people assume that they can do nothing and rely on other people’s help.

It is obvious this kid had mental issues. There are so many places for blame here and sadly it was a “Perfect” storm of bad decisions and issues that caused this to occur. This kid should have been institutionalized. If she thought the kid was getting worse, some thing more should have been done.

Please do not lie about the NRA making the guns available. That is just an outright lie. These guns were bought legally by the mother and it was her irresponsibility to allow them to get into the hands of her nut son. Sorry, that is a fact.

99.9% of gun owners who own semi-automatic guns use them responsibly. Most murders are a result of the use of hand guns. So I guess you want them banned as well?

There is a much bigger issue with mass murders than just guns but sadly, many like yourself refuse to admit it. Because the LEFT just wants the guns and are looking to exploit this horrific event.

What kind of idiot leaves weapons of any kind around this creep?

Gun control is locking up your guns at home!

Do not judge this mother. I dont know if you know this but once you are 18 you can not force your kid to get any mental health programs unless they agree to go. Call the cops on the kid, they will say they have the right to their stuff and beliefs while they are in your house. Believe me i have had it happen to me. And whats the matter with the father if you say this about the mother? No person is going to wake up in the morning and say, oh wait my teen or young adult is going to wake up and shoot me and actually do it. Stop the blame and fix the problems before they start.

SM: Read all the accounts of this story. The mom knew her son was a danger and she was “losing him”.

According to the Connecticut statute 17a-497, jurisdiction for commitment of a person with psychiatric disabilities to a hospital for psychiatric disabilities is vested in the probate court for the district where such person resides. Then there is a hearing to determine if the person should be committed. If the person is a danger to herself or society and is showing such outward actions, consider contacting the Dept of Social Services to see if an involuntary emergency commitment is prudent. Emergency commitment without order of any court (as provided by a doctor’s certificate) is limited to only 15 days. This is within section 17a-502.

There is a lot of misinformation being put out about the Bushmaster rifle. It is semi-automatic, not an automatic weapon, meaning that you have to pull the trigger once for each and every bullet, the same as any semi-automatic pistol. It has a .223 calibar slug, not nearly as big as a .45, 9mm or even a Saturday night special. It is very accurate for a long range which was not a factor in this situation. The real issue is that it looks like a military weapon and that seems to offend some peaceniks and uninformed people, but there are far more lethal weapons out there – shotguns, hunting riffles and many handguns.

Guns do need to be locked up and kept out of the hands of those who are untrained or unstabile.
      ___________
SM: Libs and the media do not care about the truth. They hate guns and have wanted them banned for years. They have actually been sitting on this so-called assault riffle ban and were waiting for the right tragedy. How well did the assault rifle ban work the first time? There is a reason why it expired, because even those on the Left had to admit it did nothing.

Automatic weapons are already pretty much impossible to get.

A hand gun is considered a semi-automatic. So is any dear hunting rifle with a clip.

Sadly, there is real change that can be done to deal with protecting children in schools and banning guns is not it. I guess we should have banned planes after 911?

The problem in this situation are the US mental health laws. Unless an officers witnesses violent behavior it is almost impossible to have an adult committed. Someone can have places where you burnt themseves but unless the officer or a mental health official actually sees a person hurting them self it usually take a court order to committed an adult. Many living today do not recall when the court outlawed the keeping mentally disturbed people in institutions unless it can be proven he is a threat to himself or others. 35-40 years ago people with problems such a s his woudl already be institutionalized, but the courts eliminated that option except under very restrictive conditions.

Why did the story about the motive come down? Why is the story regarding the mom’s plan to put him in an insttution being the motive not being diescussed, and why was it here, and now it’s not?

oh, i see it now-sorry..just wondering why we’re not seeing this more in all of the news as well.
