American State Officer Killed by Armed Gunmen at the US consulate in Benghazi, Libya
As reported at Sky News, an American state official was killed in an attack on a US consulate in Libya over a film that is said to insult the Prophet Mohammed. The mob also looted and set fire to the embassy. In response to a film, eh? It could not possibly be because it was the anniversary of 9-11 now could it?
A US official has been killed and others wounded in Libya as an armed mob protesting over a film they said offended Islam attacked the US consulate in Benghazi.
Libya’s Supreme Security Committee spokesman said: “One American staff member has died and a number have been injured in the clashes.”
But Abdel Monem al Hurr said he did not know the exact number of injured.
Armed gunmen attacked the compound on Tuesday evening, clashing with Libyan security forces before the latter withdrew as they came under heavy fire.
Reporters on the scene said they could see looters raiding the compound, walking off with desks, chairs and washing machines.
Libya’s deputy interior minister Wanis al Sharef said that other staff members were evacuated “and are safe and sound”.
The building was set on fire after armed men raided the compound with grenades.
Protests have also been held at the US embassy in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.
In the attack in Benghazi, unidentified armed men stormed the grounds, shooting at buildings and throwing handmade bombs into the compound.
Security forces returned fire but Libyan officials say they were overwhelmed.
“One American official was killed and another injured in the hand. The other staff members were evacuated and are safe and sound,” Libya’s deputy interior minister Wanis al-Sharif told AFP.

In some areas of the world civilization is having
a hard time becoming mainstream.
It is so dreafully regretable to see this happens to the USA Consulate in Benghazi. This is an act which must be firmly dealt with by the transitional Government in Libya to identify the pepetrators and those who are behind them. I am a citizen of Libya and totally object to this tragic act by fanatics who might continue their way of ungly behaviour if this is treated in the same way by the Transitional Government as it did when Mosques were invaded and burned down during the past few weeks in Zletin and Tripoli.
