UNBELIEVABLE … Barack Obama, “If you’ve got a business … you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen”

Barack Obama’s War on Business …

WOW, if you knew nothing about Barack Obama all one would need to do is listen to the below VIDEO and understand exactly why the economy is in the sad stated of affairs. If you are a business owner, you should be petrified. if you are an American, you should be appalled.

From the Washington Times, President Barack Obama addressed supporters in Roanoke, Virginia on Friday and took a shot at the business community dismissing any credit business owners give themselves for their success …  ”If you’ve got a business … you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.”

There are a lot of wealthy, successful Americans who agree with me — because they want to give something back.  They know they didn’t — look, if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own.  You didn’t get there on your own.  I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart.  There are a lot of smart people out there.  It must be because I worked harder than everybody else.  Let me tell you something — there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there.  (Applause.)

If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help.  There was a great teacher somewhere in your life.  Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive.  Somebody invested in roads and bridges.  If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that.  Somebody else made that happen.  The Internet didn’t get invented on its own.  Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.

All those hours, business models and hard work meant nothing according to Barack Obama. It was not your hard work that made your business successful, it was someone else. This President need s to go in 2012.

Just shocking. What would Obama know about having an idea, starting a business, sustaining that business, growing that business. This, a guy who never had a job, but has a lot of experience leaching from the system. Release those student records, and show everybody how you milked the government. That’s all you have experience at. And you have leached from the government at the disastrous level of POTUS since 2008.

I can’t understand how anyone can deliberately claim that Obama was actually claiming those who create businesses didn’t build those exact same businesses.

How is that common sense? How can anyone simply ignore the entire portion of his speech in which a selected partial quote was taken out and presented as a standalone statement?

SM: I would think that the man that the MSM compared to Lincoln and Reagan could articulate what he meant better then. As for your partial quote comment, please. Obama’s entire speech was actually worse that the one quote. Obama actually believes that business comes from govt.

Maybe Obama needed someone else to help him every inch of his life, those in business, especially small ones sacrifice everything and take great person risk. Obama just takes other people’s money and gives it to the slackers.

I’m sorry to say I’m not familiar with any Lincoln or Reagan comparisons. I also fail to find any comments that support the idea that Obama claims “business comes from govt”.

I did find a quote not included in this article: “The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together. There are some things, just like fighting fires, we don’t do on our own.” Seems to me Obama clearly acknowledges the individual business creator.

Regarding the Wash Times article reference and quote “took a shot at the business community dismissing any credit business owners give themselves for their success”, they certainly have their agenda and are sticking to it with selective editing. Knowing their ownership and history; I find them less that credible as a “news” source.

I still fail to understand what I initially stated; that Obama was making such a twisted claim about “not building that”, and how this is portrayed.

Oh and by the way as Obama also falsely states in his effort to justify Big Government, the govt did not create the Internet.

Gordon Crovitz: Who Really Invented the Internet?

Contrary to legend, it wasn’t the federal government, and the Internet had nothing to do with maintaining communications during a war.

      http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10000872396390444464304577539063008406518.html

A telling moment in the presidential race came recently when Barack Obama said: “If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.” He justified elevating bureaucrats over entrepreneurs by referring to bridges and roads, adding: “The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all companies could make money off the Internet.”

It’s an urban legend that the government launched the Internet.

Now this may come as a shock to libs and Obama, and Al Gore …

The Arpanet was not an Internet. An Internet is a connection between two or more computer networks.”

If the government didn’t invent the Internet, who did? Vinton Cerf developed the TCP/IP protocol, the Internet’s backbone, and Tim Berners-Lee gets credit for hyperlinks.

But full credit goes to the company where Mr. Taylor worked after leaving ARPA: Xerox. It was at the Xerox PARC labs in Silicon Valley in the 1970s that the Ethernet was developed to link different computer networks. Researchers there also developed the first personal computer (the Xerox Alto) and the graphical user interface that still drives computer usage today.

      RE: the internet.

There has been some push back on the Crovitz article, most notably here: http://goo.gl/4PxHA

“Also factual: DARPA was where Robert Kahn and Vint Cerf invented TCP/IP, the plumbing that makes the Internet possible. Crovitz mentions TCP/IP and Cerf in passing without connecting them to DARPA, which is a little like writing a history of World War II that discusses Dwight Eisenhower only parenthetically and without noting who his employer was.

How Crovitz can reconcile all this with his stance that the government creating the Internet is an “urban legend,” I don’t know. He’s either intellectually dishonest or historically illiterate; either way, he’s clearly a man with an agenda.”

    15. RK on August 1st, 2012 1:43 pm

More adverse comments and history on Crovitz’s internet creation story:

(http://goo.gl/8xKfp): “Crovitz’s entire yarn is almost hysterically false. He gets basic history wrong, he gets the Internet’s defining technologies wrong, and, most importantly, he misses the important interplay between public and private funds that has been necessary for all great modern technological advances.”

(http://goo.gl/3u9kA): “Why not? “Robert Metcalfe, researcher at PARC, invented Ethernet as a way to connect Xerox printers and the Alto computer,” Xerox spokesman Bill McKee said on Monday. “But inventing Ethernet is not the same as inventing the internet.”

In other words, don’t confuse a network of computers with the birthplace of TCP/IP and lolcats.”

      (http://goo.gl/DCsVD): “History of ARPANET

Behind the Net – The untold history of the ARPANET
Or – The “Open” History of the ARPANET/Internet”

      Historical references:

      http://goo.gl/Vl6AH
      http://goo.gl/jhc4N
      http://goo.gl/FFLmQ

Seems Crovitz’s conclusions might be trending to the wrong side of the story, and he could have benefited from some good ole Googling on the government initiated Internet. How awkward for him (or for Rupert; WSJ owner?)
