Joey Chestnut Devours 54 Hot Dogs at Nathan’s International Hot Dog Eating Contest & Former Champ Takeru Kobayashi Arrested

Joey Chestnut wins the Nathan’s International Hot Dog Eating Contest in a landslide.

As if the annual 4th of July Nathan’s International Hot Dog Eating Contest held in Cony Island, NY is not bizarre enough, this year’s event had an added twist. Prior to the event there was controversy in that Chestnut’s biggest rival did not compete due to contract issues. With no Kobayashi, the hot dog eating context was a forgone conclusion.

Joey Chestnut, 4 time Nathan’s International Hot Dog Eating Champion

It was a vegans worst nightmare … Joe Chestnut devoured 54 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes to easily win his 4th straight Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating title. However, the drama did not come until after the hot dog eating carnage was over.Takeru Kobayashi , the six time Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating  champion from 2001 ti 2006 was arrested following the event. Kobayashi tried to get on stage after the weenie eating contest, caused a scene and was arrested.

Takeru Kobayashi was arrested at Coney Island after his rival, Joey Chestnut, won the annual Nathan’s International Hot Dog Eating Contest.

The six-time champion of the contest was trying to make his way on stage after this year’s event, according to a representative for Kobayashi and a New York police officer at the Brooklyn precinct booking desk.

This year’s competition had already caused a stir after word that Kobayashi — who took home the title every year from 2001 to 2006 — would not be participating because of a contract dispute with Major League Eating. He watched from the stands.

Kobayashi was trying to prove he was better than other competitors, said Yuki James, one of Kobayashi’s handlers.

Who says the professional eaters can’t add a little mustard to the event.

After two Nathans hotdogs I feel sick.

Kobayashi could not beat Joe Chestnut in past years. So Kobayashi pulled a “Kobayashi Maru” Yes, taken from Star Trek. :-) “A no win situation.” HE COULD NOT WIN! He looked for a excuse not to compete.

Then finally caused scene the Kanye west maneuver.(Nasty, Bad Sport, make first class ASS)

      His new name Kobayashi Maru.

They`re all gonna die from digestive problems and colitis. You`re aware of this, correct? Nobody should eat 54 hot dogs, not even in one month.

a hot dog and bun contains on average about 250 calories…

the fat content, (depending on the brand) appx. 14 grams of fat per dog.

Why on earth, would one want to stuff that into their body at one time?… serious ~ keep it up and you won’t live long enough to tell your Grandkids about it, not to mention your own kids ~ for sure!

I’m with Carpe on this one…

What many want to know…did he throw it all up afterwards, or sit for days on the toilet?
