Liberal Racism:Donny Deutsch Smears FL Republican Senate Candidate Marco Rubio With Racially Charged Attack, “He’s a ‘Coconut”

So it’s the Republican and Tea Party members that are racists, eh?

While appearing on the Joy Behar Show, MSNBC and CNBC contributor Donny Deutsch used racially charged language calling Republican senatorial candidate Marco Rubio as a “coconut.”

coconut1

Just a quick FYI and primer from Michelle Malkin for those of you unfamiliar with the “coconut” insult:

If you are a conservative with Latino/Pacific Islander/Filipino heritage, you’re a coconut (brown on the outside, white on the inside).

From News Busuters, the definition of what a coconut is as defines by others in the know.

…  both the New York Times and Urban Dictionary define as a “person who is tan on the outside” and “white on the inside.” Rubio is the son of Cuban exiles.

Deutsch employed the derogatory term while hitting politicians with no experience. He noted the success of such candidates and derided, “…You almost need that blank piece of paper. That’s the new model. Like, you know, this coconut Rubio down in Florida.”

Of course the liberal Deutsch tried to weasel his way of of his racist comment by posting the following on Twitter. However, Weasel Zippers took him to task.

UPDATE: 2010-02-23 18:20 Deutsch responded on his Twitter page: “I said ‘coconut’ meaning simple, goofy, bananas…wasn’t even aware it could be a racially charged word.”

Just like a typical liberal to call others racist when they might need to take a good look in the mirror. Just before acting like a racist, Deutsch accused others of being the very same.

Ironically, just seconds after calling Rubio a coconut, Deutsch lashed out against tea partiers, slamming them as racist: “No, they’re angry- they’re basically- their argument is- and I think there’s a lot of racism underneath it- is- ‘He, they, are taking your civil liberties away. They’re stomping on the Constitution. They’re telling us how many bullets we can have in our guns.’”

Just more typical nonsense from the do as we say, forget what we do liberals. Imagine, just imagine if a Republican made such a comment. The LEFT just cannot stand that Conservative Mark Rubio is destroying RINO Charlie Christ in the polls for the Republican Primary for US Senator in Florida.

Liberals are the most agregious and self-righteous racists in the world. They can’t help themselves to do nothing but attack on a personal level.

Was listening to Hannity’s replay on the radio and a conservative called in and questioned the health bill and the costs etc and the jobs bill and how Scott Brown voted for it. The caller was being nice and cordial when Hannity put through a liberal who disagreed. Right off the bat, he called the guy a clown and offered no logic other than “it was the right thing to do.” Really now? Was it? Anyhow, the conservative still responding the liberal in a respectful manner, calling him sir, asked a very logical question in regards to why pass another $15B STIMULUS when they say they haven’t spent 2/3 of the first STIMULUS. The liberal replied…I have no idea what you are talking about. You know why, because liberals do not understand LOGIC and FACTS!

Coconut? Really? Never, ever, heard of the term.

Lived in South Florida for adult-years, where the majority of my neighbors (yes as in > 50%) were spanish-at-home-speaking latinos.

And I have NEVER heard the word coconut used in such a way. I have heard it used to mean “crazy”. What is next “Banana” as a term for “Asian on the outside white on the inside”? How about “Apple” for american indians living off the reservation (Red/white).

      BTW -
Your headline implies that he said “He’s a coconut” because you put in quotes. He did not use those words, so they shouldn’t be in quotes.

      You could say
“…with racially charged attack, calling him a coconut”

Which I would still disagree with, but it would have journalistic integrity.

See, if he said “That guy is coconut” then I could see your point that he may be using an obscure reference to heritage vs. demeanor.

But it is obscure, a google search on “Coconut latino” turned up almost nothing linking coconut to the context used here (after 12 pages two references came up and both of them needed to explain the meaning as well).

keep it up douche and all the latino votes will go conservative.

it’s a term used in Texas by mexicans who say that other mexicans are essentially not mexican enough. or if you prefer, brown on the outside and
too white on the inside. ( a coconut )
so it was definitely an insult to Rubio by the douche.

      (1)Scott -

There are plenty of educated liberals. Some of them may even watch Hannity. Some of them might actually call into Hannity. Not many though.

When you are watching Hannity, you are watching “entertainment”. This is not me slamming his show, but it is not impartial news any more than Rachel Maddow on ObamaCast (MSNBC). The producers for Hannity are going to put the idiots that call in with liberal views and the reasonable sounding people that agree with them. Its how these shows work….its rigged.

This is stretching in SM–even for a right winger like you…This guy Deutch was a big advocate of your failed “Boycott Aruba campaign”-He had Beth Twitty on several time–cut him a break.

    8. Scott on February 24th, 2010 1:11 pm

Plenty of educated liberals? HA. You mean the ones who think “American’s are stupid” and have the need to tell us what as Americans we need and what we don’t need? You means ones like the little midget man Bill Mahr?

      Give me a break.

It’s amazing how liberals SPIN the crap out of everything! He said what he said.

Please don’t compare Hannity to Maddow. There is a reason HE DESTROYS her by a 3 to 1 margin each night. What do you think that reason is? ENTERTAINMENT? People don’t watch FOXNEWS, OBAMANBC and CNN for entertainment.

#1 – You are racist. You believe blacks don’t work and you call hispanics “beaners”. So you really have no leg to stand on, do you? Haha.

Obama has NOT won Ohio and will NOT win Ohio.

High black turnout due to those that actually work (white) have not voted yet.

      We will!
      __________

      Nice try though short eyes.

      #8 Scott -

Agreed…”He said what he said”. But he didn’t say what the headline says he said. I could say “This Banana over at SM thinks that every single liberal in the country thinks Americana are stupid”.

Now, I just called you “Crazy” or perhaps “Stupid”. You might even point out the irony that a liberal just called you stupid for saying that liberals think all Americans are stupid. (Which I did for the sake of irony, not to degrade the conversation into name-calling).

However, with a little ingenuity you call me a racist because perhaps you have eastern ancestory (I have no idea) or you could find some link between Bananas and black people (perhaps through some tangent involving jungles or monkeys or something). Or, perhaps you could use the Banana->fruit->Gay angle and call me homophobic.

Its quite fun when you start thinking about the possibilities!

Donny Deutsh should have know better to use names. He has been in the journalistic business for a long time and is usually super polished.

Did he mean it in a racial context. Probably not. Should we admonish him repeatedly for stupidity. No.
