Add Another 500 to Unemployment List … CONSOL Energy Coal Company cuts 500 jobs in WV Because of Obama’s EPA

President Barack Obama always boast of the jobs that he has saved or created. How about the jobs that he, his administration and the EPA are personally responsible for losing? Add 500 West Virginia coal workers to the list of the unemployed due to Obama’s over-reaching EPA.

A Pittsburgh-based coal company, CONSOL Energy, will lay off nearly 500 of its West Virginia workers next year and its CEO blames environmentalists dead-set against mountaintop mining who have waged “nuisance” lawsuits for the job loss.

But CONSOL Energy’s political problems are not unique to the mining industry, which has suffered under the Obama Administration. The Environmental Protection Agency is already holding 79 surface mining permits in West Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio and Tennessee. The EPA says these permits could violate the Clean Water Act and warrant “enhanced” review. And, agency went even further in October, announcing plans to revoke a permit for the Spruce No. 1 Mine in West Virginia.

The latest setback for the coal industry was announced on Tuesday when CONSOL Energy said close to 500 workers would lose jobs at their Fola Operations location near Bickmore, West Virginia in February 2010.

This is the same EPA that said they would bypass the Congress and put their ow “green house gas” restrictions on business if the politicians did not act. That is correct. An arm of the Executive branch of government is going to regulate business without the approval or vote of Congress. And as predictable as the sun rising in the East, Obama finds himself on the wrong side of the debate as 53% of Americans state that the EPA should not regulate without the Congress’ ok.

At last check, The Founding Fathers were rolling over in their collective graves at the abuse of the separation of powerand checks and balances.

Actually it’s not 100% sure these workers will be laid off. And..they had to stop the mining because of pollutants they were dumping into a river. Are you going to be drinking the water and eating the dead fish they killed?

The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection may soon let Consol Energy resume pumping mine water into Dunkard Creek, a practice that stopped after a September fish kill.

Pittsburgh-based Consol says water in the Blacksville No. 2 mine is approaching critical levels, and it’s worried about the safety of underground miners.

The Environmental Protection Agency says golden algae killed tens of thousands of fish, mussels and other aquatic life in nearly the entire 43-mile length of Dunkard Creek along the Pennsylvania-West Virginia.

It also says pollution, likely from treated mine water, helped the algae flourish.

Another federal agency out of control. This agency is responsible for the vast number of manufacturing jobs that have been sent out of the country in the last thirty-five years. This numbers in the millions, so what if 500 more are lost.
Most of the time their science is junk with the facts twisted to fit the desired agenda.
THIS AGENCY NEEDS TO BE CLOSED BY THE CONGRESS!

It is 100% they will be laid off because a good friend of mine wife’s family lives up there and they ARE getting laid off.

Wolf, keep believing your left wing dribble from the “trusted” EPA…LOL!

Isn’t also amazing that jobless claims were higher than expected; BUT we do not here the President talking about that…all we here is him touting that unemployment went from 10.5% to 10%…HAHAHAHAAHA FOOL…everybody knows the real unemployment rate is somewhere between 15% – 17%….

People like Wolf just sit back and collects his head start checks at our expense…kudos to him….lol

      Scott,
Keep drinking dirty coal water bud….I just put on here what I read from more than 1 site. Just look it up yourself if you have enough brains to do so. Yes..most likely they will be laid off..but it’s not 100%. And read the real reasons they’re thinking about closing some of the mines. I would shut them down too..oh wait..you must think they’re all good and clean..no harm to people’s drinking water. Ask your friends about that issue.

This is just the beginning. Obama will shut down every coal mine in this country.

WOLF—-GET A CLUE! Stop using the internet as your #1 Source of information and please, please, please people!

GET THE FACTS! After you properly educate your dumb ass—then come back here and check in bc you have no friggen idea what the hell you are talking about! No one in their right mind would call ANY COAL MINE SAFE OR CLEAN!!!!!!!!! That’s Number 1 and Number 2—Coal Mines get shut down for usually Main Reasons:

      #1—They stop producing income
      #2—Safety
      #3—Mismanagement

It always comes down to the numbers—pure and simple.

How are all those new jobs O-Bomb-A promised to bring to Voters doing? The War? The Stimulated Economy? And you want this IDIOT to oversee the running of GOVERNMENT HEALTH CARE now, too?

Please, Wolf—whilein no way am I a Political Expert—I simply don’t have all the time needed to educate another misguided and mislead Barry Lover like you. So, I repeat—do some research and get the facts instead of believing everything you read on the internet. Sheesh!

      =(

      A Dumb Girl
Really? Wow..I’m glad you’re so smart! You’re a genius! Thanks for teaching me Mining 101!
Thanks for proving my point! “IT ALWAYS COMES DOWN TO THE NUMBERS”
Your numbers 1, 2, and 3 are the reasons for these mines possibly shutting down. This has NOTHING to do with Obama..and the EPA in my eyes. It’s and idiot running a business poorly. And I guess all you losers can do is blame Obama.
      A DUMB GIRL…(EDIT)

      #9,

Who do you think the EPA answers to? They carry on the policies of the President. So yes, Obama is ultimately responsible for the policies they implement.

But once again, the buck never stops with the Obamamessiah.

    11. Wolf on December 13th, 2009 1:37 pm

Yes..The EPA carries out the policies of the president…so why are other miines not shutting down? Because they are following the rules….running their businesses right.
