Newspaper Bailout: Obama Now Looks to Pay Off Yet another Democrat Constituency with Your Tax Dollars

The bailouts and the stimulus package have been nothing but Obama paying back his cronies Obama_one_big_ass_mistakefor their political support. Now comes word that Obama will look to do the same with you tax dollars and bail out newspapers.

As if US tax payers have not bailed out enough failing corporations, now Barack Obama says he is open to bailing out newspapers. Government subsidized and therefore newspapers beholden to the state?  Unbelievable. The newspaper industry is part of the old media and going the way of the do do bird, yet Obama looks to keep them running so that the liberal newspaper media can continue to run cover for Democrats. It is not as if the current recession is responsible for the loss of readership of newspapers, they have been failing for years as individuals look to new media to get their news.

Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) has introduced S. 673, the so-called “Newspaper Revitalization Act,” that would give outlets tax deals if they were to restructure as 501(c)(3) corporations. That bill has so far attracted one cosponsor, Cardin’s Maryland colleague Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D).

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs had played down the possibility of government assistance for news organizations, which have been hit by an economic downturn and dwindling ad revenue.

When will this insane spending by this socialist President stop? “We the People” are you mad? You should be. What is next, will Obama bail out the 8–track tape and beta-max suppliers? He would if they were run by Democrat constituencies. Industries must be allowed to succeed, fail or become obsolete. It is not governments business to bail every failing industry out with our money.

Barack Obama hates blogs because this President hates free speech. Let’s just come out and say it, this President cannot stand the First Amendment and the blogs because they dare be critical of him. How thin skinned, sophomoric and pathetic could Obama be? If Obama believes that “good journalism is critical to the health of our democracy,” then he should be singing the praises of the ACORN scandal and Van Jones resignation both outed by the blogs.

Obama should be singing the praised of the Tea Party movement which represents American democracy in action. Instead, he is outraged because “We the People” actually have a media platform that he cannot control. Instead, Obama continues to show disdain to the voice of the people. As Jammie Wearing Fool states, if Obama thinks his poll numbers are bad now, wait until he attempts this folly with American’s tax dollars.

Obama said that good journalism is “critical to the health of our democracy,” but expressed concern toward growing tends in reporting — especially on political blogs, from which a groundswell of support for his campaign emerged during the presidential election.

“I am concerned that if the direction of the news is all blogosphere, all opinions, with no serious fact-checking, no serious attempts to put stories in context, that what you will end up getting is people shouting at each other across the void but not a lot of mutual understanding,” he said.

Obama stated the following statement. Was he being sarcastic? Sadly, the answer is no. As Wizbang asks and we second the question, what journalistic integrity, fact based reporting and serious investigative reporting is Obama referring to that newspapers do? What a joke.

“Journalistic integrity, you know, fact-based reporting, serious investigative reporting, how to retain those ethics in all these different new media and how to make sure that it’s paid for, is really a challenge,”

We have known for quite some time that the newspapers act like state run media, they can at least pretend not to be such shills. Take government money and a newspaper becomes nothing more than propaganda with no credibility.

More Money More Money More Money! Cardin and Mikulski are an embarrassment to Marylanders, as was evident at their town halls in August…(actually, Ms. Mikulski didn’t even hold any…)

Maybe if he bailed out newspapers people would not come to this site and read the trash posted here. They could read the real news and not some warped idea of what is really happening.

    3. Scott on September 21st, 2009 11:12 am

oh wittle ole jackie…the reason people do not buy newspapers anymore because the majority of American people know they are mostly filled with liberal trash such as yourself. These newspapers are not a victim of the economy, they are a victim of people, REAL Americans (not YOU), deciding not to read their Obama propaganda and TIRED of seeing it.

The real numbers are what’s going on with FOX and those puny little other cable news orgs called MSNBC and CNN. O’Reilly and Beck almost TRIPLE the MSNBC audience. CNN’s audience is laughable.

You are the ONLY trash people see and read on this site!

The unions got cash for clunkers and the bailout of GM. The deadbeat poor are getting Obamacare. Now the fawning, cheerleader media get their own bailout. Heaven help us. The independents who bought this guy’s b.s. should be ashamed. You can’t blame the Dems. How else are they going to get something for nothing ?

Maybe if the newspapers were actually objective instead of being rah rah government all the time, people would trust them. Where were the major news outlets when Van Jones got the well-deserved ax ? When Hannah Giles punked the ACORN fools ? When thousands turn out to oppose the health plan ? If it is unfavorable to the government, the major newspapers and television stations don’t cover it. Like Pravda did in the old communist days in Russia. If it was unfavorable to the government, it did not happen. Maybe you should go to the MSNBC site and click the “merchandise” icon. You can buy yourself an Obama action figure for your desk, and a cool t-shirt of Obama posing like a third world “President for Life.” And you will remain oblivious to the country going to hell around you.

NOT WITH MY TAX DOLLARS! A FAILED BIZ GET BAILED OUT WITH OUR TAX DOLLARS. THIS HAS TO STOP!
Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) & Sen. Barbara Mikulski NEED TO BE REMOVED FROM OFFICE.

Scott, do you really believe what you say. Your first sentence shows how out of touch with reality you really are. I will give you another chance. Now think hard and finish this sentence. The reason people do not buy newspapers anymore is because ______________________. And anybody that relies on Fox News for their information has some serious issues.

The reason people do not buy newspapers anymore is because ______________________.

I’ll take you on Jack Hammer. The reason people don’t buy newspapers anymore (and are not willing to pay online subscriptions) is because you can’t trust the newspapers for a minute. Anything you read there you would have to go and check other sources. As Scott points out: it was NOT newspapers that broke the ACORN is trash story, nor was it newspapers that broke the Jones is a truther and radical assigned to the US government without any vetting story. The newspapers also didn’t break today’s NEA’s sponsored conference call with White House employees to artists that support Obama encouraging them to use the art to push forth Obama’s policies.

The Newspapers also hide Obama’s relationship with William Ayers, voter registration fraud committed in a dozen states by ACORN, Obama’s close ties with ACORN, the hatred spewed from Rev. Wright’s pulpit for 20 years, etc. However, you can catch some photoshopped photos in newspapers and some faked stories made up by their authors.

see jackie…you offer nothing in response. what’s your take as to why the newspapers are failing?

I’m out of touch, really, when facts smack you dead in the face? The majority of Americans do NOT want Obamacare: FACT The majority of Americans do NOT get their news from liberal left leaning newspapers because they do NOT report the facts: FACT The majority of Americans do NOT read newspapers because they are getting their news from 24 hour news cable services like FOX, MSNBC and CNN: FACT

The majority of Americans by a LANDSLIDE, almost 3 to 1 watch FOX over MSNBC and CNN: FACT

Obama is out of touch. The American population is NOT just made up from the inner cities and the ACORN groups and illegals and leeches like you who by Obama’s own words, deserve to have wealth redistributed to them!

The majority of the American people are white independents who voted this man IN; but now that the majority of those people are NOT for healthcare, they are racists? LOL!

You are a TOOL for all tools!

Now Scott, you know it should say, “The majority of Americans that frequent ‘Fox News’ do NOT want Obamacare.” You keep reading their trash site and keep coming here for your unbiased news. And here is my take. Nobody reads the newspapers anymore because of the internet. Nothing more, nothing less. Keep thinking it is more than that. Shows the ignorance.

    14. Scott on September 22nd, 2009 10:11 am

YEP, the almight jackie KNOWS all….LOL….old wise one…please teach us your all powerful ways….you’re an idiot, no other way around it. I bet you wear a helmet in your normal everyday life.

Wrong, THE MAJORITY OF AMERICANS PERIOD do not want Obamacare. Get your head out of the sand you liberal brainless midget. I guess Rasmussen polls and now the latest Gallup lie? You have zero clue if you think 24 hour cable news outlets are not the MAJOR reason behind lack of newspaper sales. Only little geeks like yourself sit around on the Internet all day searching your little sicko internet sites. Hopefully, Chris Hanson has got an eye on you!

Yep, FoxNews is a trash site (rolls eyes) considering they are the only organization that reports that actual facts and does not hide from stories because they do not want Obama to look bad to the few fewers they do have; you know the ones in the minority on Obamacare like yourself.

Little jackie is angry that Obamacare is pretty much dead in the water.

It’s okay jackie, look the bright side, tomorrow you get to go to your head start office and collect your check that was produced by ACTUAL hard working taxpayers not blood sucking leeches of society such as yourself!

    15. Scott on September 22nd, 2009 10:12 am

What shows the ignorance is your simplistic mind and the fact you have nothing up there that resembles original thought or discussion, ONLY typical tiresome Obama talking points that NOBODY is buying anymore.

    16. A Texas Grandfather on September 22nd, 2009 10:26 am

Newspapers are dying because of their lack of reliability in reporting factual information. People have figured this out and will not spend money for subscriptions to a propaganda machine.
Over forty years ago I confronted the news editor of the Houston Cronicle, who happened to live across the street from me, about this very issue. When he remarked that he noticed that I did not have daily delivery of his newspaper to my residence. My reply was “when your reporters begin to report the truth in their stories,I will subscribe”.

    17. Scott on September 22nd, 2009 11:04 am

Oh…look around jackie boy….you are in the minority (in more ways than one)….go do your own OBJECTIVE poll and the response you get from REAL everyday Americans, the hardworking ones, not the ones that drive Escalades, have their hair and nails done, with their Gucci bags, collecting their Head Start checks, will say the same thing.

The internet excuse has been used YEARS ago.

      Get a clue midget.

You are correct in ascertaining that the internet has and is continuing to take away from the printed page, of both liberal and conservative slants.

And this is going to accelerate at an even greater clip as technology produces the news, local, national and international, right on our phones(3g is state of the art now, but a year from now will be eclipsed by greater technology).

By the way, Hammer, I see no benefit to attempt to reason with the scalawags and their ilk who dwell here who have no other creative idea in their collective heads but to ridcule and attempt to demean anyone that desires a rational, sane and civilized exchange of ideas.

Their demeanor would be almost humorous if they didn’t actually sully the reputation of this conservative board as much as they do with their half and dull witted comments. In my estimation, they do more harm to the true conservatives here than any liberal could dream of doing as their antics are sophomoric at best and destructive to the conservative cause at worst.

But that is your choice to argue with or try to reason with these dolts.

I have stated before that they talk like men with paper a**holes and they are proud to act as agent provacateurs(of which one or more may be). The writing pattern of at least one of them is suspiciously familiar to that of a “liberal” on this board, at any rate(right, yoyo?)

On the bailout of the newspapers, nothing will prevent the eventual collapse of the printed paper because technology is replacing it, pure and simple. There will always be newspapers but not at the huge number of issues that there once were.

Any proposed bailout will just be money p*ssed up against a rope. The newspapers had their day and, like other technologies(the tube radio, record player, eight-track and cassette tape, etc.) is being replaced.

I hope that any educated representative will be able to see that and save the money for better things, but we shall see,

don’t try to reason with scott
