Reversal of Fortune … Barack Obama Reverses his Decision not to Release Detainee Abuse Photos, The Left Livid

Finally, change you can believe in from Barack Obama … The One is reversing his position on detainee abuse photographs to protect American troops.

As stated by the Gateway Pundit, “Obama already looked weak and doesn’t have a very respectable record on national defense so this was the right political move.”

President Barack Obama has reversed his decision and has decided not to release detainee abuse photos citing that it would put American troops in harms way and create a backlash against Americans. Kudos to President Obama for stepping up and making a smart move that protect America. As the Jawa Report states, Obi-One finally gains some wisdom. There comes a point in time where ever President must start acting like a President, a Commander & Chief and not just a Campaigner & Chief. They President must do what is right for the best interest of the United States. As stated at Wizbang, “Not only was this the sensible position regarding the safety of our troops and security of our country, but I suspect Obama came to realize this was the only smart political option for him as well.”

“The most direct consequence of releasing them, I believe, would be to further inflame anti-American opinion and to put our troops in greater danger,” the president said before departing on his trip to Arizona. “Moreover, I fear the publication of these photos may only have a chilling effect on future investigations of detainee abuse.”

The move is a complete 180. In a letter from the Justice Department to a federal judge on April 23, the Obama administration announced that the Pentagon would turn over 44 photographs showing detainee abuse of prisoners in Afghanistan and Iraq during the Bush administration …

Last Friday, President Obama met with White House counsel Greg Craig and other members of the White House counsel team in the Oval Office and told them that he had second thoughts about the decision to hand over photographs of detainee abuse to the ACLU.

They discussed possible counterarguments that they believed the Bush legal team hadn’t tried — namely, the argument that releasing the photographs constitute a national security risk.

AWhite House official said that the president “believes that the national security implications of such a release have not been fully presented to the court.”

The ACLU is beside them self that the Obama Administration adoption of the stonewalling tactics and opaque policies of the Bush administration flies in the face of the president’s stated desire to restore the rule of law. The LEFT is livid at Obama and losing their minds that Barack would actually defend the position of the United States rather than pander to the far LEFT.

Liberals — particularly in the blogosphere — immediately expressed their displeasure with the decision.

“Since he’s been inaugurated, Barack Obama has demonstrated a remarkable desire to keep evidence of Bush crimes generally, and Bush’s torture regime specifically, concealed,” said Jane Hamsher, the founder of the Fire Dog Lake blog in an email exchange with the Fix. “Some of his supporters won’t care. But others believe he is betraying promises he made on the campaign trail about transparency, and there is a growing sense that he is becoming complicit in the crimes he is attempting desperately to shield from public scrutiny.”

The LEFT cannot believe that Barack Obama has actually come around to Dick Cheney’s point of view.

What will the LEFT say now, SM actually just gave Obama his profs. Those haters. Giving the Prez credit, when credit is due.

I wouldn’t go as far as to say that he has been won over to the side of Dick Cheney… but, obviously, he wouldn’t leave our troops over there to take the blunt of anger that is bound to be expressed in Iraq and Afghanistan; not to mention the other Arab states if those photos are released. Such a stupid thing to do on the part of Cheney… and others, imo. But, stupider (if that’s possible) to put our troops in danger.

Why can’t we just leave the Arabs

      to tend to their camels

      instead of our economy?

      :)

      yes, this sucks.
let’s not report on bombing afghani/pakistani villages.
      because someone might get violent.

Wow! Kudos to Obama; BUT DOPE you are all wrong. They hate us either way, releasing the photos or NOT. They want to kill us, releasing the photos or NOT.

Obama has completely closed the door on the photos YET. He is still awaiting the ACLU’s court fight in the appeals court; which ultimately could go to the Supreme Court; but this is one move I applaud him for.

He sees the intel matrix everyday. He had no idea while campaigning what really goes on behind the White House doors. BUT he does now!

Although I still question why even release the memos and better yet I still question why he won’t release the other memos that show these EIT’s worked to save American lives?

Of course, DOPE would turn this into a bashing Cheney thing…moron! Cheney is VERY CREDIBLE in his terror assessment. Call him what you will, but he knows what is going on with NATIONAL SECURITY. Like Dick Morris said last night, if Cheney were criticizing Obama’s energy plan they he would have zero credibility.

Cheney isn’t putting our troops in danger. I have no idea how in the world any reasonable and senseable person could draw that parallel?!? Baffling really!

No point in applauding O; remember, he’s suppose to be a lawyer and a scholar of the constitution. You can’t raise an issue on appeal that wasn’t raised in the original court case. O knows this. His “change” of heart has only to do with deniability.

I applaud the president on this move.

What good would release of the photos do to anybody? The troops would be punished and our reputation would take a serious hit. These photos would be degrading to the people of the Middle East where most of these prisoners hailed from. It would have been a lose-lose situation.

This is one of the first moves where I support the president 100%.

CHENEY IS PUTTING THE WHOLE WORLD AT DANGER

    8. Dolf on May 14th, 2009 8:54 am

      sorry for the capslock

    9. SUPER DAVE on May 14th, 2009 9:44 am

too bad the crats are more concerned with the whole world than the plight of our own country that is struggling and barely treading water.
we are sinking fast and obama has done nothing to solve this problem.
he is clueless. 49 cents of every dollar the government wastes is borrowed. hold on tight when the bills come due because you know where he’s planning on getting the payback.

    10. Rusty Bridges on May 14th, 2009 10:12 am

Dolf, you should be sorry for more than the caps lock.

Cheney did not fly airliners into buildings or explode a truck bomb under the WTC, he did not hold american hostages for 444 days or kill Isreali athletes in Munich. Who killed Van Goh for speaking his mind? He certainly was not responsible for al-queda taking over afghanastan in the late 90′s and killing people just for not wipin their azzes with their left hands. You must at least remember that incident when al-queda converted the soccer stadium into an execution stage and killed so many that the world cried for America to do something about it and when we did we suffered the worlds scorn, again.

I could go way back into the 60′s these extremists have been murdering innocent people while the world did nothing. The US steps up and declares war on these animals and overthrows a murderous dictator but still everybody whines.

    11. Scott on May 14th, 2009 10:16 am

      YOU ARE A DIPSTICK!

How EXACTLY and what evidence can you provide to back up your ridiculous assertion c********?

Obama releasing our interrogation methods put us and our troops at danger. The military flexed their muscles on this “change of heart.” He wants to play it up like it was his sole decision not to, but anybody in Washington knows the military leaders had a very STRONG influence on this.

Hopefully the part of the world that is most in danger is somewhere in Holland!

    12. St Stephen on May 14th, 2009 10:20 am

I applaud President Obama’s decision to consider national security and not issue the photos at this time. Realistically speaking, those photos never need to be made public at any time as they serve no purpose to do so. They are techniques that are used to protect us and the enemy need not know what we do to extract information.

If there are accusations of “torture”, they should be seen “in camera” and reviewed by proper authorities, what, if any, techniques were employed that were questionable.

I have stated in prior posts that considering the fine methods of the Red Chinese, Russians, North Koreans and the jihadists themselves, I doubt that we even come close to torture. But that is my opinion alone and means as much as anybody elses, I guess.

    13. SUPER DAVE on May 14th, 2009 11:11 am

i agree with #12. it won’t change a thing. if i see some terrorist waterboarded, then i see an American citizen being beheaded, i’m thinking that waterboarding is basically harmless when compared.
i guess nancy preferred to see a fellow citizen’s head being severed as opposed to seeing water being poured on a terrorist suspect.

    14. Michelle Smith on May 14th, 2009 1:59 pm

      @#12 Excellent post, I agree.

    15. yoyo muffintop on May 14th, 2009 2:02 pm

#11 – More Americans were killed by terrorists on Cheney’s watch than on any other leader’s watch in US history. That is a fact.

Futhermore, it is a fact that no torture or harsh interrogation techniques were employed by any U.S. interrogator for the entire second term of Cheney-Bush – 2005 to 2009.
So therefore…if we are to believe you and Dick Cheney, that Obama’s having shut down the “Cheney interrogation methods” will endanger the nation, what are we to say to Dick Cheney for having endangered the nation for the last 4 years of his Vice Presidency?

    16. Michelle Smith on May 14th, 2009 2:20 pm

Nancy and those other gutless turds need to watch some of the videos on Michael Savage’s website and get an education of what these terrorists are capable of and then I bet she’ll think differently about a little waterboarding if not she’s a sick sick person. Waterboarding pales in comparison to what these terrorists have done. I don’t understand why the liberals care more about the enemy than their own people. It makes me very angry.

    17. yoyo muffintop on May 14th, 2009 5:32 pm

#6 – I guess Ronald Reagan is a gutless liberal turd?

I think you watch waaaaaaay too much “24″. lol.

      Ronald Reagan:
“The United States participated actively and effectively in the negotiation of the Convention . It marks a significant step in the development during this century of international measures against torture and other inhuman treatment or punishment. Ratification of the Convention by the United States will clearly express United States opposition to torture, an abhorrent practice unfortunately still prevalent in the world today.

The core provisions of the Convention establish a regime for international cooperation in the criminal prosecution of torturers relying on so-called ‘universal jurisdiction.’ Each State Party is required either to prosecute torturers who are found in its territory or to extradite them to other countries for prosecution.”

    18. HOPE on May 14th, 2009 6:13 pm

      I agree with Caesu…

I don’t think looking into the crimes committed
against Iraq, Afghanistan and Palestine are going
      to be forgotten…

We need to get the troops outta there!

      .

I’ll bet that’s how terrorists feel,
when they’re not on a suicide mission.

      .

      Red:

I only see hate thrown in one direction.

Well, two, if you count the voiceless one:

      ~!@#$$$?$$$#@!~

      Dick Cheney!!!

YOU are our next contestant on:

      Later, Gator.

    19. SUPER DAVE on May 15th, 2009 9:16 am

i see a lot of democratic hate thrown at our own citizens. caring more about the feelings of terrorists than your next door neighbor.
its the New Democratic Socialist Party.
the democrats have accomplished their task of dividing this country with partisan politics and are now acting like dictators.
but at least half of our citizens are not bowing down to a false god.

    20. Michelle Smith on May 15th, 2009 9:38 am

@#17 No Ronald Reagan was not a gutless turd but Nancy Pelosi is.

      Good Day

    21. Michelle Smith on May 15th, 2009 9:41 am

Oh & so is the Obama Administration including Obama.

    22. Scott on May 18th, 2009 11:03 am

You can’t post the evidence that on Cheney’s watch more Americans were killed. Where the evidence of this so-called ‘fact?’ LOL! Idiot!

The thousands killed on 9/11 fall on the Clinton Administration…sorry! They tried and failed in 93 under him and Clinton’s lax national security policies allowed more his ‘brothers’ to arrive in the US and plan what happened on 9/11. Get a f**king clue!

    23. Dolf on May 19th, 2009 8:55 am

      scott,

your so full of shit, take it out of your eyes.

Cheney’s watch: 9/11, War on Afghanistan, Iraq

and Bush got a memo about 9/11, didn’t act.

mmmm…who was in charge of the CIA when they trained and equipt Osama B. Laden and the Taliban…wasn’t that Bush sr.?
