Bea Arthur of Maude and Golden Girl Fame Passes Away at age 86

Bea Arthur who was best known for her roles on the 1970’s sitcom Maude and in the 1980’s for Bea_arthurthe ‘Golden Girls’ has died at the age of 86. Bea Arthur’s instant success on Maude came as a result from her guest appearances on ‘All in the Family’ and a subsequent spinoff series. Always known for her wise-cracking sarcasm, sadly Bea Arthur has passed, Rest in Peace.

One came in 1977 for “Maude,” in which she played the title role and was regarded as a symbol of the rise of feminism in American life.

The second came in 1988 for “The Golden Girls,” which ran for seven years and, with its focus on older women, was said to stretch the demographic boundaries of the television audience.

Bea Arthur was a true ‘Golden Girl’

Absolutely loved Bea Arthur on “The Golden Girls” I watched “Maude” somewhat, but don’t remember it as well.. her and Rue McClanahan first met each other on that show. The writers for the Golden Girls were brilliant.. and they couldn’t have picked 4 better people to play the parts. Was funny to seee Estelle Getty play Dorothy’s mom, when in real life Estelle Getty was a year younger than Dorothy. Have them on a dvd collection, but still tune in to We channel and watch them when I can.. Betty White and Rue are awesome also.. They knew how to walk the thin line between naughty and garbage and did it well with such humour.

We had a neighbor in his 60′s, wife was no tv fan..and he never missed that show, every Sunday he would be asking me did you watch it last night and he would laugh..Unfortunately I agree somewhat with his wife on today’s shows.. Not into most of the reality shows and seems the more channels they add, the less that is on..

Rest in Peace Bea Arthur, we miss you and Sophia.
