Barack Obama Smelly Plane … Seeing How The Other Half Lives … “everything that goes around comes around”

Who knew that Phoebe from “Friends” should be the house band on the Barack Obama plane singing her never ending rendition of Smelly Cat? Seems that Dean Reynolds of CBS News has changed candidate coverage from Obama to McCain and as he states, The differences between the two are striking. Reynolds also makes a rather glaring comment in regards to the Obama campaign, “But in politics, everything that goes around comes around”

Smelly Plane, Smelly Plane,
What are they feeding you?
Smelly Plane, Smelly Plane
It’s not your fault

They won’t take you to the vet
You’re obviously not their favorite pet
Smelly Plane, Smelly Plane,
It’s not your fault

You may not be a bed of roses
You’re not friend to those with noses
I’ll miss you before we’re done
Or the world will smell as one

Reynolds also makes a rather glaring comment in regards to the Obama campaign, “But in politics, everything that goes around comes around” It would appear that the press is treated better aboard McCain One vs. Air Obama. It would also seem that the McCain camp is more organized.

Obama’s campaign schedule is fuller, more hectic and seemingly improvisational. The Obama aides who deal with the national reporters on the campaign plane are often overwhelmed, overworked and un-informed about where, when, why or how the candidate is moving about. Baggage calls are preposterously early with the explanation that it’s all for security reasons.

If so, I would love to have someone from Obama’s campaign explain why the entire press corps, the Secret Service, and the local police idled for two hours in a Miami hotel parking lot recently because there was nothing to do and nowhere to go. It was not an isolated case.

This is a rather interesting commentary from a member of the MSM.

Maybe none of this means much. Maybe a front-running campaign like Obama’s that is focused solely on victory doesn’t have the time to do the mundane things like print up schedules or attend to the needs of reporters.

But in politics, everything that goes around comes around.

      Kind of makes you wonder…

Are the campaign habits of Obama & Co. a foreshadowing of the way they will run this country?

Are they going to trash out the offices? Capitol?
      White House?

Or are they going to respect the people and materials entrusted to them?

Barrack Huesien O’Bama hates the symbolism of our America Flag …he should just leave

Kenya where he would be welcomed.

As much as Barry should not be considered for the office he’s applying for, beware of hoax letters with stuff in them about “teach the world to sing” and other childish stuff. Many do believe that his Muslim influences outweigh his beliefs in Christian philosophy, however. His overt efforts to withhold information (witnesses and documentation) that validates his ‘verbal’ resume are very telling.

He is a rookie. he doesnt understand the importance of a strong military. HE IS A ROOKIE!

If Obama said this, just what other side is there but the American side, side of the flag?

If he’s not on the American side, whose side is he on? We don’t need a President who prefers a side other than America’s side.

Nothing like downplaying America! It’s not politically correct to be patriotic.

Well, folks, another day, another disaster on Wall Street. Both the Dow and Nasdaq ended down about 5 percent, and the Dow closed near or below 9,000.

Thank God that the government bailed out AIG (with TWO loans), the banks, the brokerages, and Fred’s hot-dog stand down the street … not to mention the worldwide half-point rate cut.

If these things hadn’t happened, the market and the economy would be in a real mess.

      Unlike their flourishing condition now.

Also, Iceland, which is described as on the brink of bankruptcy, nationalized its biggest bank.

Don’t know why Iceland should be in such woes.

Interestingly, I got an e-mail from Travelzoo today: there is, or soon will be, a $400 round-trip fare from Boston to Iceland. That’s about half the regular cost, apparently.

      I’m sure they’ll welcome tourists.

    17. Richard on October 9th, 2008 2:12 pm

Things got worse toward the end of the trading day. According to my Yahoo screen, the Dow ended down 7.3% and the Nasdaq fell 5.5%.

The culprit du jour is General Motors. So I guess the next round of bailout money will be heading to Detroit.

    18. Richard on October 9th, 2008 2:16 pm

9000? What a joke … the Dow ended the day at about 8500.

But the good news is … AIG has canceled the seaside resort excursion planned for this weekend.

Some of the geniuses there must have figured out that Americans are not feeling very good about this sort of thing.

    19. Sharon Chicago on October 9th, 2008 2:20 pm

O’Bamas wife radical Michelle worked with Ayers traitor to America’s wife 20 years ago so O’Bama
is blowing again hot smoke. He had to have known
about Ayers back 20 years ago. Also Ayers stamped on the American flag in 2001 and has not changed his stand against America. We are not your pupets O’Bama with the silver lawyer serpent tongue!

A Yonkers, N.Y., councilman whose home was bombed nearly four decades ago by the Weather Underground says Barack Obama should know better than to associate with the domestic terror group’s co-founder, Bill Ayers.

“Barack Obama constantly says, ‘I was only 8 years old when this happened.’ That’s kind of his throwaway line,” John Murtagh told FOX News Thursday morning.

“I’m not questioning what Barack Obama was doing when he was 8 years old. I’m questioning his behavior as an adult to choose his friends, mentor and longtime personal and professional colleague.”

Murtagh discussed the 1970 bombing as John McCain’s campaign put renewed focus on Obama’s ties to Ayers, who lives in Chicago and is an education professor at the University of Illinois.

Murtagh, whose father was a New York Supreme Court justice when his family’s home was targeted, put out a statement on behalf of McCain’s campaign Wednesday claiming “Barack Obama’s friend tried to kill my family.”

Obama has said his relationship with Ayers did not extend beyond serving with him on an education board in Chicago. He has condemned Ayers’ Vietnam War-era attacks, and his campaign has said Obama did not know of Ayers’ radical past when Ayers held a campaign event at his home for Obama in 1995.

But Murtagh cast doubt on the narrative out of the Obama campaign, saying it would make the Democratic presidential candidate “the dumbest man that ever graduated from Columbia and Harvard Law School” if he didn’t initially know about Ayers’ past.

Murtagh also alleged that Obama’s ties to Ayers probably go back earlier, since Ayers’ wife, Weather Underground radical Bernadine Dohrn, at one point worked at the same firm where Obama’s wife, Michelle, worked.

“The Weather Underground launched an attack on our family home … looking to kill us,” Murtagh told FOX News. “I believe if the senator were to come clean and tell us the full story, we’d find out this relationship well predates the fundraiser held in the Ayers home. It goes back to the ’80s.”

McCain released a Web video Thursday criticizing Obama for his relationship with Ayers.

Obama told ABC News Wednesday that McCain’s campaign is making these assertions simply “to score cheap political points.”

To apply YoYo’s law.. Lou Dobbs Cnn..

The Republicans in Congress have little to brag about when they return home. And the Democrats have a lot of explaining to do, as well. Once the party of the New Deal, Fair Deal and Great Society, the party of working men and women, the Democrats are now buried as deeply in the pockets of their corporate masters as are the Republicans.

The Democratic Party has played a major role in helping to pass legislation that is grossly injurious to middle-class Americans and their families. This Congress, Republican-led with complicit Democrats, has cut $13 billion in college-student aid, passed numerous free-trade agreements that threaten good-paying jobs and approved an unconscionable bankruptcy law written by credit-card companies that is nothing less than a federal government heel in the neck of American families bankrupted by catastrophic illness and crushing medical bills.

In fact, 18 of the 44 Democrats in the Senate and 73 of the 201 Democrats in the House voted in favor of the creditor-friendly bankruptcy bill. They apparently either didn’t bother to learn or didn’t care that half of all bankruptcies are caused by the soaring medical bills that stem from unforeseen illnesses and injuries.

The Democrats are also casting deciding votes on the so-called free-trade agreements that have allowed corporate supremacists to export American jobs to the cheapest sources of labor. Twenty-two House Democrats approved the recent Oman free-trade agreement, including 10 that had previously voted for the Central American Free Trade Agreement. CAFTA, which passed the House by only two votes at the midnight hour, opened up to American businesses a market about the size of New Haven, Connecticut.

And Democrats in the Senate have embraced the wrongheaded policies of the Bush administration on border security and illegal immigration. Thirty-eight Democrats joined with the Senate Republican leadership to crush the Republican majority and pass the illegal-alien amnesty bill.

Forty-two Democrats voted against legislation that would have built a border fence to stop the flow of illegal aliens and drugs across our borders. In fact, it was Democrat Christopher Dodd of Connecticut whose amendment was attached to the legislation that would require the U.S. government to consult with the Mexican government before building a fence along our southern border.

Congressional Democrats are even more dismissive of the need for border security than the Senate Republicans. House Republicans have taken to calling the McCain-Kennedy amnesty bill the “Reid-Kennedy bill” because Minority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada and Sen. Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts shaped most of the legislation.

The Democrats incredibly talk about illegal aliens as victims as they press for amnesty, yet not one has raised concerns for the true victims of corporate America’s lust for cheap labor: American working men and women, taxpayers all.

It was, after all, Sen. Reid who argued in 1993 that illegal aliens place “tremendous burdens” on this country’s justice system, schools and social programs, stretching our federal wallet to the limit as a result of “illegal aliens getting welfare, food stamps, medical care and other benefits.”

What could possibly explain Sen. Reid’s complete conversion on the issue? He’s said it was from talking to his wife and immigrants, but could his state’s wholesale importation of illegal aliens and the importance of all that corporate lobbying and campaign contribution money be a factor? Surely not.

And how about that firebrand advocate for the Democratic Party’s traditions and values, Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean? Once considered a presidential candidate with a refreshing vision for America, Dean now spends no time pursuing ideas and proposals that would help working men and women. Instead, he’s devoting his time and energy begging for money at the same contribution slop trough as his opponents while hurling insults at Republicans and indulging in petty name-calling.

Instead of articulating a vision and plan to help the United States win the war in Iraq, he said simply late last year, “The idea that the United States is going to win the war in Iraq is just plain wrong.” And when Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki was to address a joint session of Congress, Dean called him an anti-Semite for criticizing Israel. The petulant DNC chairman outdid himself by comparing an inconsequential Republican congresswoman, Katherine Harris of Florida, to the rather consequential Joseph Stalin. The incomparable Howard Dean managed to do that while calling for an end to political divisiveness.

The Democrats want to wrest control of Congress from Republicans, and they have a better than average opportunity to accomplish the feat. The next five weeks just might be a good time for frustrated, disgusted constituents to ask what it will take to elect a Congress willing to represent working men and women and their families.

      http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/08/01/dobbs.August2/index.html

btw when they did get control , they’ve had a 9% approval rating and passed no bills of substance except like tributes to the potato, watermelon and baseball as of August of this year..and were labeled the do nothing Congress..

Here’s some more from the smart Dems. beating up the regulator after Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were found in violation ..

There were many moments of high entertainment during last week’s House hearings on Fannie Mae’s creative accounting. But our favorite was the Mister Magoo performance given by Barney Frank (D., Massachusetts) after learning that Fannie had handed out $245 million in bonuses over five years. Mr. Frank chided Fannie CEO Frank Raines and CFO Tim Howard, saying, “At the level of compensation you get, we ought to be able to count on you to do your very best without additional incentives.”

Here’s a case of misplaced moral outrage if we’ve ever seen one. Mr. Franks is mad about the salaries when he really should be mad at the rigged political game that has made them possible. Fannie’s regulator, the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight, has reported that Fannie has been cooking its books. Add that to the increasing evidence that Fannie has been ignoring its mission to provide affordable housing, and we wonder if Mr. Frank doesn’t need an eye checkup.

Maxine Waters (D., California) cooed all over Mr. Franklin Raines, and Clay Lacy (D., Missouri) played the race card by calling the hearings a “political lynching” of Mr. Raines, who is African-American. Are CEOs not supposed to be accountable simply because they’re persons of color? By the way, Roger Barnes, the whistle-blower who was fired by Fannie after complaining about its accounting procedures, is also black.

btw Franklin Raines walked away with over 400 million..

Are you kidding me? The reps have been essentially in control for the last eight years, yes even the last two because Bush would veto and the reps would not help override the veto. They have resisted in all of this time any legislation that the Dems wanted to pass to help regulation the financial situation. They in fact and Grampy McSame was one of the leaders preaching deregulation as being the “right” thing to do. More hands off less government control! Now look they want total governemnt control by bailing out these loaning crooks who have been bilking people for years and now the “hands off” reps want to bail out them for being irresponsible and bad businessmen. Want to place the blame reps just look in the mirror!

    24. Maggie on October 9th, 2008 4:40 pm

Deregulation is not what caused the problem.. They were being regulated..and Republicans were trying to tighten regulations..watch the video..it is the dems resisting tighting regulations. In the Senate no bill can get passed without 60 votes..

    25. Maggie on October 9th, 2008 4:49 pm

      ^tightening..

A running cliché of the political left and the press corps these days is that our current financial problems all flow from Congress’s 1999 decision to repeal the Glass-Steagall Act of 1933 that separated commercial and investment banking. Barack Obama has been selling this line every day. Bill Clinton signed that “deregulation” bill into law, and he knows better.

In BusinessWeek.com, Maria Bartiromo reports that she asked the former President last week whether he regretted signing that legislation. Mr. Clinton’s reply: “No, because it wasn’t a complete deregulation at all. We still have heavy regulations and insurance on bank deposits, requirements on banks for capital and for disclosure. I thought at the time that it might lead to more stable investments and a reduced pressure on Wall Street to produce quarterly profits that were always bigger than the previous quarter.

“But I have really thought about this a lot. I don’t see that signing that bill had anything to do with the current crisis. Indeed, one of the things that has helped stabilize the current situation as much as it has is the purchase of Merrill Lynch by Bank of America, which was much smoother than it would have been if I hadn’t signed that bill.”

Mr. Clinton: “Not on this bill I don’t think he did. You know, Phil Gramm and I disagreed on a lot of things, but he can’t possibly be wrong about everything. On the Glass-Steagall thing, like I said, if you could demonstrate to me that it was a mistake, I’d be glad to look at the evidence.

“But I can’t blame [the Republicans]. This wasn’t something they forced me into. I really believed that given the level of oversight of banks and their ability to have more patient capital, if you made it possible for [commercial banks] to go into the investment banking business as Continental European investment banks could always do, that it might give us a more stable source of long-term investment.”

We agree that Mr. Clinton isn’t wrong about everything. The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act passed the Senate on a 90-8 vote, including 38 Democrats and such notable Obama supporters as Chuck Schumer, John Kerry, Chris Dodd, John Edwards, Dick Durbin, Tom Daschle — oh, and Joe Biden. Mr. Schumer was especially fulsome in his endorsement.

As for the sins of “deregulation” more broadly, this is a political fairy tale. The least regulated of our financial institutions — hedge funds — have posed the least systemic risks in the current panic. The big investment banks that got into the most trouble could have made the same mortgage investments before 1999 as they did afterwards. One of their problems was that Lehman Brothers and Bear Stearns weren’t diversified enough. They prospered for years through direct lending and high leverage via the likes of asset-backed securities without accepting commercial deposits. But when the panic hit, this meant they lacked an adequate capital cushion to absorb losses.

Meanwhile, commercial banks that had heavier capital requirements were struggling to compete with the Wall Street giants throughout the 1990s. Some of the deposit-taking banks that were allowed to diversify after 1999, such as J.P. Morgan and Bank of America, are now in a stronger position to withstand the current turmoil. They have been able to help stabilize the financial system through acquisitions of Bear Stearns, Washington Mutual, Merrill Lynch and Countrywide Financial.

      http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122282635048992995.html

Democrats in good standing supported the final bill. Robert Rubin and Larry Summers, Clinton Treasury officials whom Obama relies on for advice, supported it. Joe Biden voted for it, it passed the Senate with 90 votes, and President Clinton signed it. Heaven knows, Washington can make bipartisan mistakes, but if the bill were so obviously the road to financial perdition, presumably some of these Democrats much keener to regulate the economy than Gramm would have voted “no.”

Shakespeare said it best: “A plague on both your houses!”

Let us remember that the Founding Fathers were highly apprehensive of the damage that political parties could play in the system.

Compare that sentiment to this year, when Denver, host city of the Democratic convention, got a payment from the federal government of $50 million for security costs alone.

I presume that the host city of the Republican convention got as much.

So this is $100 million of federal (meaning, yours and mine) tax money that was doled out to cities that sponsored activities by PRIVATE GROUPS, which is what I take parties to be.

(Of course, given recent events, $100 million is nothing.)

Fake YouTube pages used to spread viruses (AP)
Posted on Wed Oct 8, 2008 4:48PM EDT

SAN FRANCISCO – Savvy Internet users know that downloading unsolicited computer programs is one of the most dangerous things you can do online. It puts you at great risk for a virus or another time bomb from a hacker.

But even some sophisticated surfers could get taken in by a sneaky new attack in which criminals create fake YouTube pages — dead-on replicas of the real site — to push their malicious software and make it look like it’s safe stuff coming from a trusted source.

A program circulating online helps hackers build those fake pages. Users who follow an e-mail pointing them to one of the pages would see an error message that claims the video they want won’t play without installing new software first. That error message includes a link the hacker has provided to a malicious program, which delivers a virus.

Even worse: once the computer is infected, it’s simple for the hacker to silently redirect the victims to a real YouTube page to see videos they were hoping to see — and hide the crime.

“It’s spot-on accurate, and that is scary,” said Jamz Yaneza, threat research manager for security software company Trend Micro Inc. “If I were watching YouTube videos all day I would probably click on this one.”

The tactic itself isn’t new: There’s a constant push by criminals to build more convincing spoofs of legitimate sites to trick people into downloading harmful software. And the latest attacks don’t target any vulnerability in the YouTube site.

But it highlights the fact that criminals are getting better at creating bogus sites and developing so-called “social engineering” methods to fool people.

Fortunately, truly alert Internet users can still see the telltale warning signs with the fake YouTube pages. For one, the Web browser won’t show the real YouTube’s Internet address. And to even see the malicious page, you have to first follow a link that’s sent to you, which is often a tip-off that you should independently verify whether the site is legitimate.

      smelly plane…Sen Obama

      smelly campaign..Sen McCain

hmmm, I’m guessing more than a few on this board would rather trade the smelly order of things to “that one” so they may have a candidate that they could relate to.

      Oh, well…

    29. Maggie on October 9th, 2008 7:02 pm

Richard, I agree.. I don’t open them unless it’s from someone I know..and I would never pass a virus on to anyone.. I have Norton’s Virus, which works great.

Our state threw out 11,000 votes so far that were fraud, through Acorn.. Ohio..and still under investigation. I hear there are quite a few states investigating.

CLEVELAND – Two Ohio voters, including Domino’s pizza worker Christopher Barkley , claimed yesterday that they were hounded by the community-activist group ACORN to register to vote several times, even though they made it clear they’d already signed up.

Barkley estimated he’d registered to vote “10 to 15″ times after canvassers for ACORN, whose political wing has endorsed Barack Obama, relentlessly pursued him and others.

Claims such as his have sparked election officials to probe ACORN.

“I kept getting approached by folks who asked me to register,” Barkley said. “They’d ask me if I was registered. I’d say yes, and they’d ask me to do it [register] again.

“Some of them were getting paid to collect names. That was their sob story, and I bought it,” he said.

Barkley is one of at least three people who have been subpoenaed by the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections as part of a wider inquiry into possible voter fraud by ACORN. The group seeks to register low-income voters, who skew overwhelmingly Democratic.

“You can tell them you’re registered as many times as you want – they do not care,” said Lateala Goins, 21, who was subpoenaed.

“They will follow you to the buses, they will follow you home, it does not matter,” she told The Post.

She added that she never put down an address on any of the registration forms, just her name.

A third subpoenaed voter, Freddie Johnson, 19, filled out registration cards 72 times over 18 months, officials said.

The obama flag thing is just another false rumor: http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/stance.asp

There are plenty of reasons not to vote for Barack Obama without trading rumors and spreading them all over.

What we should care about is Barack Obama’s many faulty relationships (Wright, Pflegher, Johnson, Raines, Ayers, Resko) and his stated policies (which he quickly backs away from when people point out they are Marxist).

Next, Obama’s total refusal to admit he makes mistakes from his position on the surge, to defaming our troops by saying they are air raiding villages.

Obama’s and the entire democrat party’s refusal to admit that their policies (though in their mind well intended) have led to the absolutely disastrous position we are in today.

I’m with Richard. How is that 1 trillion dollar bailout working for you? Has it saved main street? Has it made life any easier for any of you?

Worse yet, have you seen congress working on any policies to make sure it never happens again? When they won’t even admit what went wrong, how on earth can we expect them to fix it?

    31. katablog.com on October 9th, 2008 8:45 pm

Oh yeah, and don’t you just love knowing that congress just gave $60 million to ACORN a couple of weeks ago? That’s right, your tax dollars at work – helping a certain party commit voter fraud.

Maggie – I’m not sure what your point is but I’ll help you out:
      Posters 1/2/3/4/5/6/10 are Republicans.
Only a complete idiot/mental patient would believe post #1 was true (as #1/2/3/4/5/6/10 did).
      Therefore Republicans are…

Did I make sweeping generalization? Yes.

Would only an idiot/mental patient believe post #1 was true as 1/2/3/4/5/6/10 did? Yes.

Did you believe post #1 was true Maggie?
I got a feeling I know your answer but I’m pretty sure your extreme partisanship will not allow you to to say “yes, if someone believed that they aren’t that bright”.

Well, with all the corruption we see everywhere else, it’s no surprise that votes are being bought and sold.

My solution: disqualify every voter in America.

Then we won’t have an election.

The way things are going, that might be the best solution. If nobody knows who is running things, nobody will have power to hand out cash.

“That’s right, your tax dollars at work – helping a certain party commit voter fraud.”

Please explain how it’s “voter fraud”? It’s voter registration fraud by those individuals registering, but not voter fraud. There is a distinct difference.

Why do you assume low-income people vote for Democrats?

Did you know that the 10 states with the lowest household median income, where people are least likely to have healthcare and most likely to live in poverty, all voted Republican in 2004?
Bet ya didn’t. How could you – you thought the bad economy was just a liberal media conspiracy.

Thank you for pointing out that there is not only voter fraud but voter registration fraud – both are crimes.

When a person registers to vote and the same day casts ballots in several different places, that’s voter fraud. When a person registers to vote under fictitious names, with the intent to then go vote under those names, that’s also voter registration fraud with the intent to commit voter fraud.

Why on why do you want to play nuances? If you believe in America you believe “one person, one vote” a very stabilization of the American system.

Those who are out there registering fictitious people and paying people to vote a certain way are committing fraud on the American voting system.

There is no defense for ACORN’s crimes against the American voting system so please, save it for someone who is nutty enough to believe in your games.

      STRATEGY:

Keep the election offices busy checking the thousands upon thousands of fraudulent voter registration forms.

Cut off access to verification of those forms.

      RESULT:

Obama will be the next POTUS! John McCain is an angry, unhealthy, old man with poor judgment and a deplorable record. He was the biggest screw up at Annapolis and bragged about cheating on his disabled wife. The only reason who got anywhere in the military was because of his father and grandfather. But you reps keep believing the crap he’s spewing about Obama. It won’t matter because not only will he win the election, but he will win by a landslide. He is not a muslim, he does not pal around with terrorists, and he certainly knows his arse from a hole in the ground, which is more than I can say for either Grumpy McSame or Caribou Barbie.

da_wench: It would appear to me that you are in strong denial if you actually believe that these are only made up allegations about Obama’s relationships with Tony Resko, Rev. Wright, Jim Johnson, Franklin Raines and William Ayers.

You are also in total denial if you don’t think ACORN is indeed working hard to commit fraud on the American voting system. There are now 17 states that have hundreds of false registrations submitted by ACORN –

ACORN, you know that agency that Barack Obama paid $800,000 to and then lied and said it was for staging equipment etc.

ACORN, you know that agency where Barack Obama participated as their lawyer.

ACORN, you know that agency where Barack Obama trained their leaders.

Discredited Republican voter-suppression expert Ken Blackwell has gone on TV lately with some wild accusations against Barack about a non-existent connection with the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, also known as ACORN.

The accusations have no basis in fact.

The truth is that Barack was never a community organizer or trainer for ACORN, and he was never employed by ACORN in any other capacity. ACORN was not part of the historic voter registration drive that Barack led.

      YoYo the unbiased one..snickers..

    47. Maggie on October 10th, 2008 6:43 pm

The truth is that Barack was never a community organizer or trainer for ACORN, and he was never employed by ACORN in any other capacity. ACORN was not part of the historic voter registration drive that Barack led.

If you look here you can see the wording changed..

While Barack Obama’s connection with the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) has not gone entirely unreported, it has not been fully explained. Most media background pieces simply note Obama’s involvement in a 1995 lawsuit on behalf of ACORN. Obama’s own website, as well as most major media, fail to reveal the full depth and extent of his relationship with the organization.

Attempts to hide evidence of Obama’s involvement with ACORN have included wiping the web clean of potentially damaging articles that had appeared, and were previously publicly accessible. Unfortunately, those behind the attempted cover-up failed to realize that in today’s day and age, nothing disappears forever. There also exists another layer of the web, the hidden web, which is full of information included in proprietary scholarly databases where these very same “missing” articles can be easily uncovered.

      Obama’s campaign website states:

Fact: Barack was never an ACORN trainer and never worked for ACORN in any other capacity.

Is that really a FACT, or just another lie? Let’s take a look at a quote from a 2004 article – Case Study: Chicago- The Barack Obama Campaign – written by Toni Foulkes, a Chicago ACORN Leader, which was published in the journal Social Policy. Did we mention that Social Policy recently pulled this particular article from their website, while leaving links to all other articles up?

“Obama took the case, known as ACORN vs. Edgar (the name of the Republican governor at the time) and we won. Obama then went on to run a voter registration project with Project VOTE in 1992 that made it possible for Carol Moseley Braun to win the Senate that year. Project VOTE delivered 50,000 newly registered voters in that campaign (ACORN delivered about 5,000 of them).

Since then, we have invited Obama to our leadership training sessions to run the session on power every year, and, as a result, many of our newly developing leaders got to know him before he ever ran for office. Thus it was natural for many of us to be active volunteers in his first campaign for STate Senate and then his failed bid for U.S. Congress in 1996. By the time he ran for U.S. Senate, we were old friends.”

Not only does Foulkes boast of Obama’s ACORN leadership training, but also makes it clear that Obama’s post-law school organizing of “Project VOTE” in 1992 was undertaken in direct partnership with ACORN. The tie between Project VOTE and ACORN is also something that Obama and others have attempted to disprove in recent weeks as ACORN has come under fire for allegations of voter registration fraud.

As recently as March 2008, the Los Angeles Times also made reference to Barack Obama’s involvement with ACORN:

“At the time, Talbot worked at the social action group ACORN and initially considered Obama a competitor. But she became so impressed with his work that she invited him to help train her staff.” (LA Times, March 2, 2008)

All this information was easily pulled up with minimal time investment. It took less than thirty minutes to find, despite attempts by some to bury the truth. If I could find this with little effort, imagine what could be dug up with a serious, in-depth investigation. Scary, isn’t it?

Nevertheless, Barack Obama’s campaign website continues to lie and deny the truth about his involvement and association with ACORN. No matter how many times you say it, it does not make it true. The facts do not lie, Senator Obama. It’s time to come clean and tell the truth, and it’s time for the American people to demand it.

***Update: A person who left a comment on the story below (thank you) has notified us that the Obama website has changed. We have done a follow up story that can be read following this link Here is our follow up story:

On Thursday we revealed the connection between Barack Obama and Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), and uncovered a 2004 article that discussed his involvement with the organization which had recently been removed from the web. Today, the cover-ups continue and language on Obama’s fightthesmears.com website has been altered in order to make it look like he has been telling the truth about his ACORN associations all along.

Fortunately, we and many others online know how to do a screen capture and how to use a little something called Google Cache.

      As of yesterday, Fightthesmears.com stated:

Fact: Barack was never an ACORN trainer and never worked for ACORN in any other capacity.

Sometime on Friday, the website was altered, and the text was changed to state:

Fact: ACORN never hired Obama as a trainer, organizer, or any type of employee.

The mere fact that his campaign has now changed the language of the site shows that they have conceded the fact that their original remark was a bold-face lie. As a lawyer Sen. Obama should know the importance of language.

The original statement implied that he had no working connection with ACORN, whereas the new statement now insists that he has never been employed or hired by ACORN.

It is good to see the truth finally come out now, but why were they trying to hide his association with ACORN, and what else is Obama lying to us about?

Meanwhile … whew! What a wild ride Friday was on the market, and what a catastrophic week!

This is from a stock market review publication:

Stock markets around the world were a scary place to be this week. In the United States, the Dow Jones Industrial Average suffered its worst-ever weekly loss in percentage terms, while, on Friday, the Dow swung in a 1,000-point range for the first time in its history. (end of selection)

It remains to be seen what will come of the G-7 meeting … and, what’s more important, how the market reacts. Reaction to the news is always more important than the news itself.

Meanwhile, some pundits are warning that next week’s earnings reports, which are heavily concentrated in the tech industry, are likely to include some depressing forecasts.

    49. Maggie on October 11th, 2008 1:53 pm

Richard..I think the media is driving a lot of the fear.. People need to just calm down some. We have been through hard times before and I am sure we will again.. but like I said..we will come out stronger…we always do. The working class people here are the best..now is the worst time for fear and panic..

      Anger I can understand though.
