Not just any “hookergate, but a $5500 per hour hookergate. As Rusty at The Jawa Report stated, “these were not street corner crack whores, but hot upscale models. With the bombshell news today that New York Governor Eliot Spitzer has been implicated in a prostitution ring, the Democratic politician will now always be known as “Client-9,” one of the johns described in a recently unsealed FBI affidavit detailing the operation of the Emperors Club, an international call girl ring.
It is hard to believe that Eliot Spitzer, a man who had prosecuted so many as a DA and Attorney General would be taken down by the very devices he used over the years to bring criminals to justice. Talk about living and dying by the same sword. Spitzer will never be able to survive this scandal as there is already talk of his resignation.

ALBANY – Gov. Eliot Spitzer, who gained national prominence relentlessly pursuing Wall Street wrongdoing, has been caught on a federal wiretap arranging to meet with a high-priced prostitute at a Washington hotel last month, according to a law enforcement official and a person briefed on the investigation.
The wiretap captured a man identified as Client 9 on a telephone call confirming plans to have a woman travel from New York to Washington, where he had reserved a hotel room, according to an affidavit filed in federal court in Manhattan. The person briefed on the case and the law enforcement official identified Mr. Spitzer as Client 9.
Mr. Spitzer, a first term Democrat, today made a brief public appearance during which he apologized for his behavior, and described it as a “private matter.” He did not address his political future. (NY Times)

Gov. Eliot Spitzer was not expected to continue as governor and may resign as soon as Monday night, sources told CBS 2 shortly after it was reported that he was linked to a prostitution ring.
Reliable sources initially told CBS 2 Political Reporter Marcia Kramer that Lt. Gov. David Paterson could be handed the job as early as Monday night, though other sources say the process could take up to 48 hours.

When I saw the pictures of him with his wife standing by him, the FIRST thing that came to my mind was WHO is the A$$ that started the trend of making political wives stand on the podium next to their JERK political husbands while they confess their sins to the world??? Well, this is straight out of King Lear: though the Lt. Gov. may be physically blind, the one with the defective moral vision is the governor.
The NY GOP has said today that Spitzer will either resign or be impeached. So think of it:
he at least had the chance to do the “decent thing” at that press conference by standing up, taking responsibility for his actions, and saying something like “I’ve failed the people of my state, and I no longer deserve to be in office.
So I am resigning effective immediately.”
As of yet, there’s no word that he is resigning.
So instead of trying to leave office with some kind of recognition of his moral failures (to say nothing of breaking the law … how many powerful people in this country seem to care about that?), he’s going to go down kicking and screaming.
Right now he’s probably looking around to see how many votes he can get if impeachment is raised.
Again, reminds me of Goneril in King Lear:

Meanwhile, I can’t help but think that this is going to be bad news for Hillary. Logically, perhaps, it shouldn’t matter … but she’s a senator from New York, and in Mississippi, where the primary is today, there’s certain to be some negative reaction. So I think, anyway.
And as a poster said up above … isn’t it interesting that NOW and similar groups, who went berserk when Ted Kennedy endorsed Obama and failed his “obligation” to support a woman candidate, are silent? Do we all remember Geraldine Ferraro? I believe that there was talk of her being the VP candidate for Walter Mondale.
However, her son was caught selling hard drugs at college (the same college I went to, though he came after me). It made a big media splash, and she had to drop out of contention, I believe.
Of course, she attributed the whole thing to media persecution, or some such drivel. The fact that the son of a potential VP candidate was pushing drugs didn’t matter … in her mind.
These scandals are nothing new from the historical perspective, but to me they provide more evidence that the power of our government has to be scaled down somehow. It’s our money that is being used and abused.
It also would be nice if, somehow, we could achieve some kind of a moral reformation, where Hollywood celebrities aren’t held up as models for our young people and fast-buck artists aren’t allowed to hold our economy at ransom.

I really do not see the big deal that has been made about the Gov. of NY and this whole “scandal” that everyone cannot seem to let go of. I mean he is human and he made a mistake, although I think prostitution should be legal but that is another matter. He made a mistake, give the guy a break. People make mistakes, we would not be human if we did not. People are so quick to judge and not give someone a second chance but they would be the first to plea for one if they themselves made a mistake. How does his going with a Call girl affect how he runs the state ? I do not see that it does unless he used state money, then that would be wrong. What gives the government the right to make prostitution (which harms nobody if regulated and practiced safely ) illegal ?
