Every year the Airports Council International (ACI) assesses airports worldwide with Airport Service Quality Awards as well as for the best airport in Latin-America and the Caribbean. Conspicuously absent on this list is Aruba’s, Queen Beatrix International Airport.
Best Caribbean/Latin-American airport is that of Guayaquil (Ecuador), followed by San José (Costa Rica), Mexico City (Mexico), and Port of Spain (Trinidad & Tobago).
So how is it that an island that claims to be the number one place to vacation in the Caribbean does not show up on the top 5 airports in Latin-America and the Caribbean? Coming soon to a ATA and AHATA travel brochure, Aruba … not on the list of top 5 airports in the Caribbean, service and safety is not out motto.

WILLEMSTAD – The airport of Curacao made the 5th place in the category ‘best airport in Latin-America and Caribbean’. Every year, Airports Council International (ACI) assesses airports worldwide with Airport Service Quality Awards.
Ninety airports competed this year for the ASQ-awards 2007. For the assessment, the coordinating airport organization uses 200.000 completed inquiry forms, where passengers judge the airport services on 34 points. The passengers do this at the gate between check-in and departure. The quality of the service should never be considered as ‘something nice to have’, but as a basic discipline in airport management. We see a strong connection between management dedication and passengers’ satisfaction”, said program-director Craig Bradbrook of ACI, who regarding the over-all winner Incheon Airport (South-Korea) declared: “The management gives excellent service with pride and sees the service as part of the tourist total experience – good for the country’s airport and good for the country. Dedication has very high priority in that country.”
Best Caribbean/Latin-American airport is that of Guayaquil (Ecuador), followed by San José (Costa Rica), Mexico City (Mexico), and Port of Spain (Trinidad & Tobago).
Schiphol made the 5th place in the category ‘biggest airports’ (more than 40 million passengers per year). Hongkong won in that category.

After all the years and money spent by Aruba on remodeling the airport …..nothing, sorta like a nasty person getting plastic surgery……when all is said and done, they are still nasty.

it has long been known in the aviation circles that the Aruba airports radar is like a child’s toy at best. works only part of the time and is manned by incompetent The large airlines use another airports Radar when landing in Aruba .

Too funny…You have to actually sign up to participate in the survey to be included in the results. Aruba, along with thousands of other airports, did not. Just look at the number of “non-participants” in the US alone. Only 25 airports participated in North America.
I’m sure SM knew that(SM linked it) but went ahead with the story anyway in order to intentionally mislead it’s readers. I have no idea whether Aruba’s airport sucks or not, but to infer they do because they didn’t make the “Top 5″ of a survey that they didn’t even participate in is poor journalism at best.
If the intention was to mislead – Kudos.
Yoyo, would you say there are “thousands” of airports in the Caribbean? Setting aside the illegal landing strips used for drug trafficking, I find this a bit difficult to swallow.
Folks, it’s getting serious here … read this article. The people on the Persistence are convinced that Natalee’s remains are in one of the items on the bottom of the water off Aruba that they have identified … but this says the water search will end THIS WEEK unless more money is raised.

Richard – Never said thousands in the Caribbean. You can see the small number of airports that participated world wide – how many do you think were not included?
In the survey, only 2 Caribbean airports participated in the survey. Only 2. As a matter of fact only 14 airports constitued “Latin-America/Caribbean” in this survey. And as you know, Latin-America/Caribbean consists of: Central America, South America, and the Caribbean.
Richard, how many airports do you think are in Central America, South America & the Caribbean? 200+?
Point is the entire piece is misleading…but I’m not surprised you wouldn’t see it that way since it’s a negative piece about aruba and no matter what, that’s good. Am I correct in that?
Here’s the simpliest way to tell it’s purposely misleading – I will answer the question asked:

Answer: They didn’t participate in the cited survey therefore they would not show up in the top 5.

Anyway…did you even bother to take a look at the list of “eligible” airports? If I was too guess, based off all your previous posts, that would be a no.
When you saw Detroit on the list, an alarm didn’t go off in your head that something might be wrong?
There’s at least 5 airports just in California that were not part of the survey. Matter of fact I can probably name 40 in the US I’ve flown in to that did not “participate” in this cited survey. FYI – only 15 US airports were “in the running”.

Hm…well IF Aruba is the safest destination in the carribbean why wouldnt they participate or why would they not be eligible to participate in the survey? Honestly, it would seem to me that Aruba would need all the positive publicity it could get at this time. The hotels may be getting visitors but I am positive the majority are not Americans. Thanks to Joran and his latest tape Aruba has the worst publicity in the United States and for good reason…no one wants to go to a place with NO law enforcement..who would?? Aruba’s name is mentioned nightly on many news stations in the U.S. and not in a good way. People in the U.S. will never have good thoughts again when the word Aruba is mentioned.

Come now children keep focus. Hato just opened a brand new airport last year, 1/3 the size of Aruba’s own. And Curacao receives daily 2 US Flights which are from Miami. And on weekends that goes up with one from NY and one from ATL. On the other hand, Daily, Aruba gets round 10 US flights which double/triple on a weekend day from all across the East coast and central US.
. Don’t forget the other US-airlines and Charter….DUHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
Aruba doesn’t pay to increase flights, airline companies do. And if for e.g. US-airways has three charlotte flights on a weekend-day, two Philly flights on a weekend-day and Boston flights, you think they will be flying empty? The companies would be saying, HEY, one flight is just too crowded, so let’s increase our flights to Aruba with more flights from one destination, so the passengers may al have an extra seat to the left and right of them in an aisle…..like DUHHHHHHHHHHH. That’s your DUHH right there Red

The crew on the ship are all volunteers. They are willing to stay and complete the search…..but they need money for fuel, etc to keep going. If the ship has to leave Aruba prematurely it will be all of our faults as Americans for not helping.

#24 pure B.S., because we never used radar here on the island, always has been Curacao Center who runs the air space from the center of the Caribbean (were San Juan Center air space ends) all to way to the border of Venezuela. A Radar was installed for future use on the island, where Aruba wants control over its air space, but that bridge has not yet been crossed. But yet again the inspector gadget mind inside you wants attention.
You want to do something useful which helps? Do what #25 says/asked, instead of wanting to be investigators.
