Maybe that’s a typo above, but Ben’s grandfather is actually Jim Preuitt (D-Talladega) a state senator in Alabama, not Florida.

Here’s a link to an article in his hometown newspaper:

ben goes to my rival school. donoho. its in anniston alabama. he is a sweet kid, stuck in the drug sceen but still hes a good kid. please pray for him, his brother will has not even come home to support ben parents. its very hard on all all of us. so please pray and if you know something please tell, even if he will be in trouble. its not worth him never seeing his family again

      APC,
First of all Will has been very supportive of his family and of Ben. You are a high school student, Will is a college student. Speaking for Will and all of us who love and miss Ben who are in college you can not just leave. You need to stay out of it unless you have something positive to say.
      Rosalie

    5. KBM on November 12th, 2007 3:11 pm

      To APC,
You shouldn’t post things like this. Have you talked to Ben’s brother Will? Do you know why he hasn’t been home? It’s obvious that you know nothing. It’d be much appreciated if you just kept your mouth shut from now on.

On another note. I’m still praying for Ben’s return and now I’m praying that stupid people like APC will keep there voice hole’s shut when it’s obvious to the outside world that they don’t know anything.

    6. Kristine Lamonte on November 13th, 2007 12:01 am

What exactly is the “drug” scene? Does smoking pot make us bad people? I smoke pot…but I’m not into the drug scene. APC you’re not focused on what is important here. You’re too focused on attacking Will for not coming home and you’re too focused on telling us who Ben is. First off college students can’t just leave and take off when we want to. We have tests that we can’t make up even with a doctors excuse. We have papers weekly and projects that we can’t just up and leave because it will get us behind. How can you say Will doesn’t support his family? Second talking about Ben being in the drug scene does nothing to help find him. All it does is start rumors. But I guess Highschool idiots love to start rumors. Your focus should be not on Will going home or Ben being in the “drug scene”, you should be focused more on praying for Ben’s safe return.

Please APC for all of the people that love Ben, close your mouth. It’s apparent to all of those who love Ben that your just some unintelligent highschool girl who wants to appear to know what she is talking about.

I hope Ben is found soon guys. I have everyone I know that prays to any God praying for him. Someone up there does answer prayers so keep praying to whoever you pray too.

ya’ll need to pray for the boy, but believe me,NO ONE,NOT EVEN HIS FAMILY, knows what that boy does, including drugs. all people nave secrets inside them. APC may know the boy very well,so you shouldn’t call them names. JUST PRAY FOR BEN,AND LORD WILLING,HE WILL BE FOUND!

Breaking News (FOX6 WBRC-TV MyFoxAL, Graphic)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC-TV MyFoxAL.com — A body was discovered Tuesday afternoon with clothing matching the description of missing teenager Ben Stanford.

Authorities searching for Stanford told FOX6 News of the discovery at around 2 p.m. They said the body was found behind a Home Depot in Villa Rica, Ga., about 1/4 mile from where Stanford’s car was found last week.

They would not say if the body was that of Stanford.

Benjamin Stanford was last seen alive Nov. 5 in Anniston. His vehicle, a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee, was later found on Interstate 20 in Villa Rica, Ga., police said.

Hundreds had assisted authorities in the search for Stanford, including Equusearch founder Tim Miller, who flew to Alabama Monday to assist the family.
Stanford is a senior at Donoho School in Anniston and is the grandson of state Sen. Jim Preuitt, D-Talladega.

It is true that we may not know what he was into, but it’s not her place to post it here of all places. That information should have been kept confidential perhaps between her and the cops. She need not post that he was on drugs in a forum.

    12. SRA on November 13th, 2007 6:37 pm

I work at the Daily Home Newspaper in Pell City. We personally know Ben and his parents. I would much rather everyone focus their efforts into praying for strength and comfort for this family versus bashing them. I have spoken to someone that was at the scene and saw the body. Let’s just say, it is Ben and it’s unclear whether it’s homicide or suicide at this point.

He was found dead today in Villa Rica

    14. krg on November 13th, 2007 10:58 pm

Please pray for Ben’s family. They really need support during this trying time. Even though his body was found, I am sure that they have a million of unanswered questions. As a parent, I know that no matter how you raise your children they will do things that you don’t approve of and they will befriend people that you don’t care for. No matter what Ben was “into” he did not deserve to lose his life and his family surely does not deserve to be going through all that they are at this time. Just remember to keep them all in your prayers and take the time to remind all of the young people in your life that they can confide in you no matter what the circumstance.
May God Comfort the Stanford Family!!!!

    15. muddy on November 14th, 2007 12:41 am

I dont think that people are bashing the family but trying to give insight on why this could happen to a good family. Maybe it will open the eyes to many of us parents to look for things that might enlighten us to this activity before it went as far as this did. I do not know if his parents had dealt with this or not. We haven’t heard but something tells me that they might have known something. It is personal and private matters and if they knew it they probably did not go around telling it to everyone. People aren’t like that. IT is sad for a family to have to face this kind of horrible loss. Like i say the truth no matter how horrible might help others look for signs. I don’t know if what has been said is true or not but usually where there are rumors or talk you find that there is some truth in it. Let us all pray for the family in this time of loss and hurt. I don’t think they will ever recover from the loss. Just too painful.

    16. Kristine Lamonte on November 14th, 2007 2:17 am

      krg thank you.
muddy, yeah what you say is true, but still I think that it should be said in confidentiality not written on the internet. People are like that and this isn’t the only site that it has been on. My response was not an attack, but more of a request that people would quit saying unecessary things. This is not the place to say them. The only people that need to know those types of details are the police as they are the only people that are going to be able to solve this case.

Also, they are unsure of whether or not it was a homocide or suicide. NBC 13 said they are still treating it as a murder case though.

This event, homocide or suicide, is a sad case. We can only pray that it doesn’t happen to other young kids. No one deserves to lose their life especially not at such a young age.

Please remember that what is important here is that a life was lost and that his family is going through major hard times. Lets support and any details that may break the case of his deaths should be reported to the police not to the mass media.

    17. mb on November 14th, 2007 2:05 pm

I find it a shame that here a young mans life is gone and people are going to argue as what to say or not say or who to say it to.
Everyone deals with these things in a different way. To me why or how his life is gone at such a young age more than likely isnt my business. what ever secrets or problems he was or wasnt having the bottom line is we all do or dont do things in life that after loved ones are gone we live with for the rest of our lives. This was a young man of 17 years old and more than likley the circumstances surrounding his death will probably never be fully known to the public. Somethings will always be hearsay and rumors.
One might say oh he did drugs another might say he was a good boy who attended chursh every Sunday. I can guarantee that each persons view of him will be different and every person that knew him will remember him for different things and in different ways.
Regardless as a human race we should allow his parents friends & family to mourn in peace and come to terms with the sudden end of their sons life and the long road ahead that they will travel. It seems that as a human race we have lost out ability to have not only compassion but also respect for those that have passed & for those left behind.

Today is Wednesday and I just got a call from my brother that Ben Stanford has been found. We’ve prayed for the family since hearing about it on Fox news here in Arkansas. His grandparents are some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. My prayer is that who ever did this will be brought to justice and soon. God bless this family

    19. jc on November 16th, 2007 2:49 pm

Could Ben have killed himself because he was gay?

    20. AMR on November 18th, 2007 4:31 pm

Why would you say somthing like that?? First of all Ben was NOT gay. Where is your heart?? This is a big lose for his parents and I don’t think that is somthing that needs to be posted!
We miss you and love you Ben!

    21. bob on November 22nd, 2007 1:20 am

I thought maybe ben committed suicide because of burgeoning same-sex attraction as well… who knows?

Gay teens are 3 times more likely to commit suicide. Look it up.

    22. AMR on November 28th, 2007 5:15 pm

First of all it still does not matter if he was gay or not. Still back to the main point, this is a loss for his family. Why are ya’ll trying to tear him apart by rumors and speculation. All you are accomplishing is tearing up this family. Maybe you’re all jealous. Ben was a great guy who had everything going for him. Including a great family who loved him dearly. Jealousy could be what actually killed him, cause I don’t believe he committed suicide, and neither do alot of others. For the sake of this family STOP saying stupid things like he was gay. One day this could be your child.

    23. Caroline on April 5th, 2008 9:44 pm

Hey i am Ben’s cousin and I just wanted to clear some things up; he was NOT gay or he did NOT do drugs. Ben was one of the most vivacious guys I had ever met and he was sweet and kind. But I want ya’ll to pray Ben, even though he’s in heaven. I thank everyone who prayed for us and big mouths, SHUT UP. If ya don’t have anything nice to say, don’t even think about it.

    24. momo on April 29th, 2010 4:34 pm

      i miss him…=[
he had such a lovely smile…
