Aruba: More Drug Smugglers Sentenced on “One Happy Island”

More drug smugglers sentenced in Aruba aboard a drug loaded boat disguised as a fishing vessel. With every boat they manage to catch, one does wonder just how many actually get through?

Amigoe; October 8, 2007: Jail time for drug smugglers

The fishing boat Canelita, on which a big amount of marihuana and cocaine was found in May of this year.

ORANJESTAD – The judge gave verdict in the case of 7 Colombians, whose boat was intercepted near Paardenbaai in May with on board 350 kilo marihuana and 12.25 kilo cocaine.  Six of them were sentenced to 18 months to 4.5 years jail time.

The 7th one was acquitted, because there is no evidence whether he knew about the drugs on board.  He paid for the trip with the purpose to enter Aruba as an illegal person.  During a joint patrol with the Section Organized Crime and Guarda nos Costa, the Coastguard for the Neth.Antilles and Aruba stopped the fishing boat in the night of May 21st.  They found 15 bags of 100 kilo narcotics on board of the boat.  There was also 300 kilo fish on board, probably used as cover.

The captain of the boat was sentenced to 30 months imprisonment and the person responsible for the fish as cover received 18 months.

The three drug smugglers Manuel Castrillo, Tomas Mendoza Iguaran and Juan Cardales were considered the leaders of the operation and were sentenced to respectively 3, 4, and 4.5 years imprisonment.

Why do they give such short sentences? They act like they’re concerned about the drug-addicted chollars that fill their streets, but pat the hands of the ones that feed them.

Aruba… shows, yet, another double standard. One might think that there is something to be gained by the recidivous life of a chollar. We know they’d do anything for their drugs. Is it Aruba’s underground that is benefitting from their desperate state?

Yet, another indication that Aruba is unsafe.

Did you all notice how small the bust was? A kilo is 2.2 pounds so the coke was only weighed roughly 25 pounds lol.It was and is all show on the once one happy island.I bet no one was sent to jail.

    3. Deetch on October 8th, 2007 5:23 pm

Sure it was the ‘Colombians” boat? How many boat owners get paid hourly?

Where are the white guys? Oh, their the ones wearing the robes.

    4. LilPuma on October 8th, 2007 5:29 pm

Has there actually been an increase in drug busts since the Dutch arrived on the island to investigate Natalee Holloway’s disappearance? Seems so. I wonder if the Aruba is feeling some kind of pressure from The Netherlands to start enforcing their laws rather than pretending there is no crime.

    5. Carpe Noctem on October 8th, 2007 6:01 pm

Perhaps that was one of the Queen Shiny Hiney’s
strict conditions of the big loan?

That they have to comb their hair, tuck their
shirts in when they show up for work, and to
at least look like they care about crime.

I guess the personal equivalent of it would be
when you invite your skanky uncle Dilbert
over for a holiday family dinner, and warn him in
advance not to scratch himself at the table,
and get slap funky poop faced. -j4n

They probably plant this stuff on the boats of
the people they don’t want around and after they
are arrested and sentenced, they collect the drugs and use them on the next ones. Seriously nothing surprises me about this place anymore.

Have ALE, what’s the sentence for drinking and gambling underage, contributing to a minor or framing people for crimes they didn’t commit? Oh that’s right you get to become a lawyer or go off to Holland to study or work at the internet cafe.

    7. Jerry from Ohio on October 8th, 2007 7:52 pm

I know that in South Fla they used to send a decoy boat with a much smaller amount of Cocaine and allow the Coast Guard to catch them, and while they were busy doing that the Boats with the LARGE amount would go out around the edges of the waters then get on it when they were out of range of the chase boats. all the sudden they were 50 miles away down in the keys or up the inland water way mixed in with thousands of other Boats that all look a lot alike .

    8. Allan on October 8th, 2007 8:10 pm

It is an cartel-mafia ran island. Posner probably knows what happened to Natalee. That is a small drug bust, more smoke and mirrors. A small 3 man enterprise striking out on their own. It means if you don’t work for the cartel you will get caught.

    9. Allan on October 8th, 2007 8:11 pm

      PS Its called organized crime.

    10. Houston on October 8th, 2007 8:44 pm

This seems like a small drug bust….normally the report is on a drug bust of tons.

    11. brie on October 8th, 2007 10:55 pm

Oh what a joke…there are bigger drugs coming into Aruba…they all lye in the free zone…We’re not stupid…abolish the free zone…!!!Direct your attention to a small fishing vessel. A fishing vessel that could of put Natalee in the sea.

    12. Gabriel Leo on October 9th, 2007 7:17 am

Hey how about posting the news where a week and a half ago a big raid was made here on the island, where family members of your own Jossy “Mafia” Mansur were arrested, once again. His brother opened fire on the arrest team when they barged in to his home. He was arrested for being involved in dealing, laundering, possession of weapons. He never did continue with that story in his so called toilet paper Diario, but all other local paper still report on that news and continue to follow up. So next time you have JO-SIE on your radio show or speak to him again, ask him: “how are your brother and family doing”?!

    13. Gabriel Leo on October 9th, 2007 7:20 am

Ow and believe me this Mansur family from who you keep getting so called facts/correct news are considered big fishes by your US-government. Ask around, you will see.

    14. Miss-Underestimated on October 9th, 2007 8:44 am

I had the honor of meeting 3 awesome women last night. I went to the Borders in Chicago to meet Beth at the book signing for LOVING NATALEE. She is any amazing woman. She is truly an inspiration. She spoke of her helping other families of missing or murdered children, her own ordeal with Aruba when Natalee ended up missing and her plight to inform travelers of the cautions to be used when traveling out of the US.

Little would have been known of Natalee Holloway and Aruba had it not been for the perseverance of Beth.

I also met fellow posters KrisG and Lilpuma, two totally dedicated posters here at SM.

Beth still needs our help. I have a sinking feeling the Netherlands will try to push this case through with a big fat NOTHING resolved. That is why we need to continue to press Aruba and the Netherlands to provide justice for Natalee Holloway.

The Netherlands needs to INVITE THE FBI TO SOLVE, this case to show goodwill to the family of Natalee Holloway and the future American travelers. The United States needs to issue a travel advisory to US citizens traveling to Aruba until there is cooperation from Aruba and the Netherlands.

If this does not happen, the boycott will go on and strengthen, something Aruba cannot afford to happen.

Beth, KrisG, Lilpuma it was very nice to meet you all.

    15. brie on October 9th, 2007 9:11 am

On the last drug bust we only got the initials of those involved. How come? Protecting their names? Jossy’s brother, it was probably planted there by the corruption on your island. If smoking Marijuana is legal in Aruba, then obviously someone is allowing it to be brought in. Duh! I guess only certain people can break the law for drug-trafficing. Also, you allow your crack houses to exist, why is that? You’ve got drugs all over your island. And it’s not being brought in by 3 men and a boat!

By the way Gabe, where is Natalee? Ask around, you will see. But I suppose you already know!!!!!

    16. Vicki on October 9th, 2007 9:27 am

Hey Gabe, stop putting JO-SIE down, and start helping us get answers so you can go back to doing whatever you were doing 2.5 years ago…Help us get answers and we will leave your “wonderful” Island alone. How about that….

    17. JusticeforNatalee on October 9th, 2007 9:44 am

When is Aruba going to prosecute, convict, and sentence
the perps who killed Natalee Holloway?

Aruba cannot move on until there is TRUTH and JUSTICE!

How about it, Aruba? Here is the headline we want to see:
      “Natalee Holloway Gets Justice/Killers Sentenced”

Now THAT would be a smart move by Aruba.

Natalee has immense love and support in the US.
Beth’s very successful book is reminding Americans
of the outrageous injustice done to Natalee.

American toursts will not travel to Aruba
when an American citizen is being denied justice.

      Wake up, Aruba!

    18. Richard on October 9th, 2007 9:52 am

Haven’t these drug dealers heard about the (supposedly) infallible and invincible radar system that Aruba has deployed?

Why, Aruba even says that it knows every boat that was on the water the night that Natalee vanished ….

Some people might even believe them.

The Aruban flacks are still with us … Jossy Mansur has since day one spoken out against the travesty of justice on Aruba. That’s his significance. True, he has always been speaking against the government there … but I don’t see that problems of his family detract from the truth of what he says about the cover-up.

Boycott Aruba. As if your life depended on it.

    19. Richard on October 9th, 2007 9:59 am

Probably what happened here is that they caught the “small fish” to keep the U.S. anti-drug forces happy … all the while, the ones with the connections to the Aruban government continue to get the wink and the go-ahead sign.

    20. katablog.com on October 9th, 2007 10:21 am

Gabriel Leo: would you want to be judged by what your family members do? I sure wouldn’t. Just because a member of Jossy’s family allegedly did something does not change what Jossy has done for the Holloway Twitty families. You can crawl back in your hole now.

    21. KrisG on October 9th, 2007 10:31 am

When I sat down at the Borders book signing yesterday evening I just asked if there were any other Scared Monkeys in attendance and was happy to meet Miss-U and Lilpuma. Both very dedicated and compassionate women. When Beth entered I was surprised to see that she is about 5’9″. She’s so slim on TV and I just always pictured her to be about Natalee’s height. Her eyes have a shining light behind them and she has come to terms with what has happened and will use that knowledge to help make travels safe for other Americans.

Beth was very gracious, posed for many photos and hugged those that wanted one. She also expressed thanks to the Scared Monkeys for keeping Natalee’s story alive.

Lilpuma and Miss-Underestimated perhaps we’ll meet again.

Thank you to my husband who told me about the signing just about an hour before it started. (I arrived home from an out of town trip.)He drove the 30 miles to downtown in record time and dropped me off in front of Borders so I wouldn’t have to park. He had his own adventure while waiting for me. So all in all, a memorable night for the both of us.

      Justice for Natalee Holloway!

    22. brie on October 9th, 2007 11:20 am

There’s a lot of really bad things happening on that dried up piece of dirt island. One thing is for sure, it can’t be called safe anymore! It’s more like, enter at your own risk!

And just when is Joran and the Kalpoes going to arrested for kidnapping, for beginners? Natalee thought she was getting a ride back to the hotel. I wonder what actually took place in the car. If Joran told Natalee he was an exchange student staying at the HI, how did he explain to her that they going to his house. When he didn’t have one. But as Beth says, she believes they went to Joran’s house. And something bad happened. Joran’s says Natalee was in and out consciousness. Maybe she didn’t die there but because of what happened they couldn’t let her leave to go back home. So they removed her from the island. Or, she did die there and the priest, who wouldn’t talk to Dave, was asked to come. And Paulus made a withdrawal and gave it to the priest. Then they buried her at sea.

    23. brie on October 9th, 2007 11:30 am

Jossy knows a great deal of what is going on in Aruba. The gov’t doesn’t like him, especially Oduber, nor to they like the Diario. Nor to they like any assistance that he has given to the disappearance of Natalee.

Hey Gabe, where is Natalee? How come your country cannot solve this crime. One of your three suspects admitted to the murder of Natalee and was leading the ALE to the body.

Joran claimed his first three statements were lies, WHY?

Don’t be shy. Beth is warm and receptive. I also had my 19 year old daughter and my son’s girlfriend and she took the time to talk to these girls, took photos with us, not all rushed, very focused on who she was speaking to. You walk away with the sense that you really want to help find justice for Natalee.

Her faith is the core of her being. Wonderful to witness.

All along it’s been the strategy to take the story away from Natalee Holloway and what was done to her. What does Jossy helping with the Natalee Holloway case, have to do with his brother? Are you responsible for what your brother says and does? I applaud Jossy for standing up to the powers that be, when Oduber tried to shut him up. I applaud him too for standing for Justice for Natalee. God Bless you Jossy for keeping the injustice done to Natalee on the front page.

I have read Beth’s book and just talking about it don’t do it justice, you have to read it. There is no doubt in my mind, they were led on wild goose chases to take the focus off the real suspects and there’s no doubt in my mind that Jacobs and Straten know exactly what happened to Natalee. Dennis Jacobs is every person’s worst nightmare for a cop. More worried about his crackheadsm his whorehouses, his frosted flakes, shaving and his coffee, than a missing tourist. All those in charge from the start was saying she’s in a crackhouse. Like Beth said if they thought she was in a crackhouse, then why were they pretending to believe that the 3 dropped Natalee off at the Holiday Inn. The story that the group from Natalee’s family was told at Joran’s school, that Paulus told the Headmaster, Joran and the K2 dropped Natalee off at the Holiday Inn and the Holiday Inn security camera’s weren’t working.

I remember Joran saying he told Natalee he had to get home for tests, yet it says he told people of her group he was a 19 year old tourist staying at Holiday Inn.

Deepak’s car at the Sloots and when Beth arrived it was gone, Paulus coming to the door woke up out of bed, he says, at 3am and he’s carrying his cellphone and has to call Joran who says he is at the Wyndham(just one of the 200 supposed coincidences in this story) , to get everyone away from the house. Paulus acts like he’s shocked Joran isn’t home, yet in his police statement, he says he gave Joran permission to go to the Wyndham that night. This is one of the most bizarre, and pathetic bunch of garbage one could ever witness. Straten leaves the island the day after the Kalpoes are released. Changing of search warrants on the spot. Deepak’s car parked outside the police statement the Monday morning, yet he claims in his statement that he wasn’t questioned until that evening. Beth and Jug were told they didn’t need their statements after waiting for hours and when they leave, Deepak’s car is still parked out back. The spokesman who went out and announced he was working with the family and Beth said she had never seen him before. Renfro injecting herself in the story to just send a family on wild goose chases in harms way with false hope. Fight to not give dna, keep the FBI out, not allow Tim Miller to search or sign papers for equipment needed, lying to the family over and over and I could go on. Then fly out the runaway, pregnant, medjet, overdosed buried herself, walked out in the ocean and killed herself BS. These people are beyond twisted sister. Reminds me of the twilight zone.

Wake up Natalee was a victim of a terrible crime on her last night in Aruba. Show me innocent people who act like this.

I am so glad many got to meet Beth, She is a gracious and courageous woman.

Yes, why not investigate the reputable legal firm that Paulus represents. We know he lied!!!! So I would say the legal firm is not reputable. Protecting the criminal!!! He aided in the disappearance of Natalee, and should be held guilty and disbarred from law practice. And Anita is in no position to be teaching children. No matter what they say Joran is guilty….and they damn well know it!!! I wouldn’t want Anita in my school system teaching my child..She raised a psychopath!!! And she looks like a misplaced wanna be!
