3 Suspects Arrested in Germany in Terror Plot Against Ramstein US Air Base

Three suspects have been arrested in a foiled terror plot reportedly against Ramstein Air Base and the Frankfurt International Airport. The three suspects, two Germans, aged 22 and 28, and a 29 year old Turk came to the attention of authorities because they had been observing a US military facility at the end of 2006. All three terrorists had undergone training where else? Pakistan.

German federal prosecutor Monika Harms said the three — two of whom were German converts to Islam — had trained at terror camps in Pakistan and procured some 1,500 pounds of hydrogen peroxide for making explosives. And a top legislator said the group could have struck “in a few days,” noting a “sensitive period” that includes the anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. (Yahoo News)

German Police Arrest 3 Men Plotting Terror Attacks on U.S. Facilities

All three had undergone training at camps in Pakistan run by the Islamic Jihad Union, and had formed a German cell of the group, which officials said was influenced by Al Qaeda.

The Islamic Jihad Union was described as a Sunni Muslim group based in Central Asia that was an offshoot of the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, an extremist group with origins in that country.

“The group, which is influenced by Al Qaeda, set up a German cell in winter of 2006 with the goal of finding recruits here to carry out attacks,” Harms said. (Fox News)

   My brother is stationed in the Kaiserslautern, Germany area(the same area where Ramstien, Lansthul and about eight other bases are). I’ve been hearing stories about these particular men for at least six months now. The sad thing is that these men have been caught on the bases at least once or twice now and were let go. My family is very glad to hear that they been caught but not many there feel safe right now.

   I was stationed in Kaiserslautern myself, Jules, and was assigned to 2nd General Hospital in Landstuhl So, I’m very familiar with the area, including Ramstein Air Force Base. I was there during the Cold War Era, March 1978 til January 1981, and during the Iranian Hostage crisis. Terrorists and terrorism was bad back then too! I didn’t feel safe either while I was over there Too close to the commies, etc….
