Vermont Secession Movement Gains Traction … Don’t Let the door hit ya in the …
What in God’s name ever happened to the Green Mountain state? The liberals, academics and “flatlander” transplants that have moved to Vermont are now spear-heading a session movement. What would anyone expect from a state that now elects socialist politicians. It is unbelievable what has happened to this state in the past 30 years. If the “People’s Republic of Vermont” want to secede, let them take their maple syrup and go.
Vermont, which was historically conservative, has evolved into one of the nation’s most liberal states since the latter part of the 20th century, a tie-dyed bastion of countercultural dissent and New England self-reliance where folks wear their hearts – and their anti-war stickers – on their Subaru station wagon bumpers.

If you want to experience some of this ~ go to the 4th of July parade in Warren, VT ~ over 4,000 people converge on this wee little community for the Fourth ~ and the political floats in the parade are a hoot to see ~ (very outspoken)…
Oh, you’ll see signs ~ while driving through Vermonts different towns ~ if you’re not from here, go home! (and they MEAN IT!)
Welcome to Vermont!
Well, the problem with the news up here is:
1. Nothing much happens anyways.
2. Since Vermont is too small (only one congressman, plus the two senators) for anyone to care about, and is full of kooks anyway (hey, I live here!), the weirdos take over the media coverage by virtue of default.
3. Vermonters have a tradition of going their own way, so they have a kind of affection for “causes” which in effect thumb their noses at prevailing doctrines.
4. The “regular,” laconic citizen doesn’t get much attention in the media anyway. Wackos are more colorful.
But we do have lots of cows and beautiful autumn foliage … so come on up! Vermont needs your tourist dollars.
Vermont IS a very, very beautiful State as Richard has shared ~ I will vouch for that~! ANY time of the year, it’s georgeous and offers so much. It does have lots of cows and is so picturesque during autumn foliage ~ the winters are great for skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, cross country skiing ~ the summers perfect for jumping in the rivers, the lakes perfect for canoeing, biking & hiking, visiting the farmers markets are a must there’s an awesome one in Waitsfield, and it’s one State that has so much to offer ~ don’t let the signs intimidate you (about going home..it’s novelity) ~ and that parade in Warren, is worth a trip for the 4th of July ~ it’s all a part of the flavor of what Vermont offers ~ Ben and Jerry’s a MUST and driving through the old routes, you are mesmorized by the cornfields and can smell the sweet pollen while driving by them ~…… ROAD TRIP is in order!!
I LOVE VERMONT~
Richard,
The problem with VT was that because it was so small, far under 1 million in population, that it did not take many to move in to destroy the social fabric of once existed.
It really is hard to believe that in many ways VT became more extreme than MA and CA.

I don’t see what the problem would be that somewhere social democrats are being elected into office. Dozens and dozens countries have since a very long time elected social democratic representatives and will continue to do so.
You do know that diversity is the spice of life (according to some) and a little political diversity might not be a bad thing.
Sadly, the national press coverage of this issue has been as bad as our own local Vermont press coverage. For more complete coverage try Five Before Chaos – http://fivebeforechaos.com/category/second-vermont-republic/ – or my own blog at Vermont Secession – http://www.vermontsecession.blogspot.com/
Vermont progressives and liberals have left the group run by Thomas Naylor and Rob Williams because of their indisputable connections to racists and white supremacist groups like the League of the South.
It isn’t likely that secession will be seriously consider here, but you won’t get that reading the press. It was VT blogs, like Green Mountain Daily, that broke this story – http://www.greenmountaindaily.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=934
Where is this “Vermonts”
in relation to Texas?
Red, do you know what town that covered bridge is in? It looks like the one that is right down the road from me!
I think that the social fabric is still ok (more or less) … my point being, I don’t think most Vermonters take the yapping about idiocy like a secessionist movement seriously. Just another way for fools to divert themselves.
They don’t believe it either, is my guess.
One more note about Vermont … it’s in the 40s here today.
We have been there and done that,so don’t
I think the term conservative has been misused. Conservatives let Vermont, Vermont didn’t leave Conservatism.
Good for Vermont. Hope their secession works. The South would have left them alone in ’60 and since Dixie doesn’t exist anymore it won’t bother them now. Hope the Hispanics get their Aztlan breakaway this century. Good riddance to Abe’s “Union”
