Alfonso Rodriguez Jr Sentenced to Death for Murder of Dru Sjodin
Habitual rapist, kidnapper and now murderer, Alfonso Rodriguez Jr. was sentenced to death today by US Distric Judge Ralph Erickson for the murder of 22 year old University of North Dakota student Dru Sjodin.
Before Sjodin’s slaying, Rodriguez had served more than 20 years for offences that included rape and attempted kidnapping. He got out of prison about six months before the killing.
North Dakota and Minnesota have since toughened their laws against sex offenders, including life without parole for the most serious offences and stricter supervision of offenders after they leave prison. (AP)
U.S District Judge Ralph Erickson also rejected a motion for a new trial and gave a tearful summation as he pronounced the sentence. Rodriguez will die by injection at a federal prison in Terre Haute, Indians. Frankly, it can’t happen soon enough.
“I would gladly lay down my own life to have had this whole ordeal avoided, to have Dru Sjodin back with her family, to have never heard of you, Mr. Rodriguez,” Erickson said. “The life of one federal judge more or less pales in comparison to the pain that this crime has inflicted on so many people.”

What an honor for such a beautiful young lady… to have a Federal Judge say that he would have gladly laid down his own life in place of hers is touching… we need more judges like him.
Thank God North Dakota reinacted the death penalty. How fitting it is that this monster should be the first to receive that penalty in over a century!
Finally we have a judge who is using the law to protect the citizens. Thank you Judge Erickson for upholding the laws. I hope this is a a bit of victory for Dru’s family. These creeps/pervs/monsters need know you will die if you kill
Such a beautiful girl. I remember following this when it happened. I believe the prison in Terre Haute, is the same one Timothy McVeigh was executed at. It’s not all that far from me. This creep should never have been out to harm another person to begin with. When are they going to keep these people locked up and away from our children for good?!
If rodriguez draws one more breath of air, that is one breath too many.
For what it’s worth, North Dakota had nothing to do with the death sentence in this matter. I don’t think they had a death penalty when the bastard committed the crime.
The Federal court system is responsible for trying the case as a DP case. Thank goodness the Bastard took Dru across state lines (ND/MN) or it would have been a state matter — likely resulting in “life” imprisonment with a chance fore parole.
To all the AC’s who refuse to believe the DP is a deterrent, I can assure you with absolute certainty that once the DP is carried out, the Bastard Rodriguez will never again kill — thus he will be deterred.
Ronnie, I was about to ask why the scum is in an Indiana prison. Thanks for clarifying.
The step after the execution is … to find out why the animal was released and judged worthy of parole. Let whoever made the decision confront Dru Sjodin’s family and the American public. Let them explain why they did what they did … and how they feel about the result.
Goddamnit, rub their noses in it!
And please, media people … for ONCE, let’s have a little dignity about the proceeding. No yelling and screaming talk shows. No breathless coverage about protesters. No rehash of events gone by.
Just a cut and dried statement … the animal has been put to death, in the way that we treat rabid dogs.
NO PUBLICITY FOR THE ANIMAL KILLER.
Gets pretty emmotional when you see a young lady like that, and you think what a wonderfull friend she could be, if you could get her back and have her along with my own girls friends come for Sunday dinners. We are big on enjoying young ones visit on Sundays. We keep a lot of activities going. Seeing her picture and thinking what a waste. How terrible that she cannot bring joy to the ones she would have…parents, family, friends, a husband and kids. Guess we all think of these types of things.
I have only once been to that area of our country, about 3 years ago. Wonderful people, very friendly, share quickly and do not hold out suspicions easily. The welcomes I recieved were appreciated. Hate the citizens have this to deal with.
Somebody has to die before the people that can do something, indeed DO something.
#6, richard, i agree wholeheartedly, and the quicker we get the notification of his death, the better.

This murder breaks my heart. Too many young girls are murdered and placed as if they were a bag of garbage. I fear for any young girl living in this country. Why should he not suffer like she did ? I pray for her family.
