Marine Recruiter Who Seduces Students Gets No Jail Time – And an Honorable Discharge

U.S. Marine Sgt. William Moore was a recruiter for the Marines in Brooklyn, New York. He had access to students at their schools and used that access to seduce them. That is horrible enough, but lets look how the judicial and military services let us down.

The prosecutors brought a 33 count indictment on this pervert. The judge, John Walsh, decided to go against the prosecutors demand for jail time and gave him 10 years probation and a level 1 sex offender status. This means this man does not have to report to the local community he lives in as a sex offender.

And then to add icing to the cake, he is given an honorable discharge from the Marines, the very organization that whose reputation he has hurt. Folks, there are bad people out there. When they do evil things, they need to be punished so that they can not do so again, but also to send the signal to others that it is definitely not in their best interests to do so in the future.

Today, in this instance, both the legal system and the Marines have validated that going into a school as a recruiter and seducing the students is just fine with them.

And that is wrong.

Moore, who worked out of a Marine recruiting station on Flatbush Ave. from 2002 until 2005, was a well-known figure at several Brooklyn high schools, including Dewey, James L. Madison and Lincoln.
At Madison, according to his victims, he seemed to have unrestricted access to students, coaching sports teams and chatting up girls in the school lunchroom.
In February, he was arrested on a 33-count indictment that charged him with third-degree rape, performing a criminal sex act, sexual misconduct and sexual abuse.
On Aug. 1, he jumped at a plea deal offered by Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice John Walsh over the objections of prosecutors, who demanded jail time.
After admitting to two counts of third-degree rape and one criminal sex act, the Marine was sentenced to 10 years’ probation and designated a Level I sex offender, which spared him from the state’s sex offender registry.
He has since left Brooklyn, relocating to Bliss, N.Y., in upstate Wyoming County.
Moore could not be reached for comment, but his mother said he received an honorable discharge from the Marine Corps last March. via the New York Daily News

amen to your comments on this matter. the sergeant should be in jail and dishonorably discharged from the marines. one more black mark among many for the judicial system of the u.s. and the lack of moral responsibility we all have to bear.

The real problem was that he was a soldier in the Marines, representing his country in a school as a person in a position of power.

He abused the position, the trust, and the responsibility that he was given and broke the law in doing so.

This is much different than a 19 year old boy fooling around with a 16 year old girl.

Nows the time for all 33 girls, or how many there are, to go to civil court against this sick man. Civil court will serve him up justice.

I have avidly supported the recruiting presence of our armed forces in high schools, however, the blatant disregard that the Marine Corps displayed for it own otherwise illustrious reputation cannot be easily dismissed.

It is small wonder that we embrace the torture tactics that were once relegated to our enemies(Nazis, Japanese during WWII, etc)and condone this type of aberrant behavior with the sanctity of “We’re doing this to stop terrorism”. One only has to see what movies we will flock to see(Saw III) to understand that the America we so love is becoming, dare I say it, a 3rd world nation in underdeveloped thought and action.

This Marine in another time in our country would have been languishing in prison for daring to mar the proud reputation of our nations’ best. Now, however, a wink and a nod later in history, and he is given an “honorable” discharge.

Tell me, where is the “honor” in seducing the young that you are depending on to sign up to protect our country? I pray that this type of behavior doesn’t become acceptable for the Marine Corps or any branch of our armed forces.

THIS MARINE HAS DISGRACED EVERY MARINE PRESENT AND PASS. HE HAS TANISHED OUR CORPS AND THE MARINES THAT SERVE. REGARDLESS OF THE GIRLS AGE OR LEVEL OF MATURITY, AS A MARINE HE IS HELD TO A HIGHER STANDARD BY SOCIETY AND THE CORPS. THAT IS WHAT SEPARATES US FROM OTHER SERVICES. HIGHER STANDARDS IS WHAT NEW RECRUITS FIGHT TO REACH EVERYDAY. IT IS WHAT ATTRACT OUR YOUNG PEOPLE TO SERVE IN THE UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS TO BE THE FEW THE PROUD THE MARINES.
I WRITE THIS COMMENT WITH PAIN AND ANGER THAT THIS INDIVIDUAL MARINE HAS TARNISHED MY CORPS AND MADE IT HARDER FOR MARINE RECRUITERS TO DO AN ALREADY HARD JOB. HIS ACTION ARE THAT OF A WEAK INDIVIDUAL AND NOT THAT OF THE BRAVE MARINES THAT HOLD THEMSELVES TO THE HIGH STANDARDS OF THE CORPS AND SERVE OUR COUNTRY EVERYDAY.

Just wanted everyone to know that he is in jail right now as I type…I hope they revoke his probation amd really make him do the time…I Can’t believe he doesn’t have to register as a sex offender..Maybe justice will prevail this time..We can only hope

First lets see if we can clear up a few things that have been said and commented on. The young man that all of you think is such an evil person is not any more evil than the rest of you. He was scheduled to be honorably discharged from the Marines and what transpired between him and the Three girls that brought charges against him had nothing to do with his recruiting duties. The Marines do not get involved in civil cases that are not related to them, that is up to the civil courts to handle. He served his time respectfully and cleanly while in the Marines and that is why he received an honorable discharge, so do not slander the Marine Corp. He met the girls through friends originally and they portrayed themselves as being older, 17-19. The one young man commented about how young girls can be very decieving and they are and then when they do not get thier way they can also be very vindictive. The young girls have the body and looks of a woman but the mentality of a child. Thay can be very conniving and do things they think are grown up but then when a young man finds out he has been duped then wants to end the relationship the girls show their true colors. Even while still in jail the girls were trying to contact him and want to see him, even though he had ended contact with them months before. He did not jump at a plea deal from the DA to escape he did it to move on and he will have to live with this on his record the rest of his life because he is registered as an offender. How many of you have thousands of dollars to try to prove that you had been duped. All of you young men out there might want to be careful of who you trust because those 33 counts came from EACH!! time he had a date, contact or sex with these girls. All of you who do not have the facts or are willing to make a snap judgement on what you read in the newspaper might want to reconsider how clean your own lives are. Have you never done any thing wrong, steal, cheat, or hurt your best friends feelings while trying to protect thier feelings, etc. Look long and hard at your own life before you judge because when you are proven wrong it will come back tenfold to you. As far as him being in jail now that will be cleared up, the charges are because of a court system that likes to target anyone on probation in thier county and does not check out all the facts before making an arrest.

This so called nice young man that was released to go to Bliss, NY. Well he is a violent person that some people need to stop making excusses for. He is in jail not because the courts like to target anyone on probation, it is because he is vile and thought he could get away with the same things in Bliss that he got away with in the Marines and in NY City. The judge should be ashamed of himself. It took a small town judge to put him away.He is serving 19 mon. which he should have gotten longer for all the lives he has messed up. He was arrested more than once in Bliss before he started to service time, the facts were checked out and proven.

Ok. I do not agree with what he did, but lets face it some 16 yr old girls now a days act much older then years ago. And are sexually active. I find it hard to believe that all 33 girls didn’t consent to whatever it is they did with the marine. My husband, who is also a USMC Recruiter has had many girls texting his cell phone with crazy messages calling his phone late at night, trying to “flirt” with him. The phone number is right on their business cards, I think that everyone of the girls who pursued the situation and the Marine are all at fault.
