All is not Well in Paradise, Now Aruba upset with The Netherlands: “The relationship between the Netherlands and Aruba is currently so bad …”
But according to Oduber, Aruba has lost confidence in the Netherlands, now that this country has made the island’s financial loans conditional. It is so, that Aruba can no longer take out loans just like that.
So then it should come as no surprise to Prime Minister Nelson Oduber or any other Aruban officials why the United States tourism community has lost confidence in Aruba. Turn about is fair play Mr. Oduber. If you cannot properly protect US citizens on your island, properly investigate crimes against US citizens and properly conduct a prosecution without having corruption, nepotism or favoritism be the standard … then you to have gained the overwheleming lack of trust of tourists.
Prime Minister Nelson Oduber, the US and supportive tourists who refuse to come to Aruba to vacation have a condition for you as well if you have not figured it out yet. Justice for Natalee Holloway or Aruba’s tourism will never have a chance to return to what it once was. Its as simple as that.
“If the Netherlands does not change her position on Aruba’s loans, then there is no need for Nicolaà ¯ to come back here”, says premier Nelson Oduber (MEP) to the Amigoe.
During Nicolai’s visit, the parties were supposed to further negotiate the collaboration between Aruba and the other kingdom islands on judicial- and financial matters. But according to Oduber, Aruba has lost confidence in the Netherlands, now that this country has made the island’s financial loans conditional. It is so, that Aruba can no longer take out loans just like that.
Is it any wonder why the Dutch are making loans conditional as they most probably do not trust the numbers they are given or are not allowed internal audits of what they are being told. Add The Netherlands to the list of countries who do not trust the Aruban authority at their word. Welcome to reality Aruba … seems that many things should be conditional when entering into agreements with this government.
Aruba now wants to borrow 50 million dollars from the Deutsche Bank, but this bank doesn’t want to complete the transaction as long as the Federal Government does not approve the loan. The Netherlands’s condition for this is that article 29 should not only apply to foreign loans, but to all loans that Aruba contracts. In addition, the Netherlands wants the guarantee that the Aruban government does not touch the reserves of the Central Bank of Aruba (CBA).

The new Dutch minister for Governmental Renewal and Kingdom Relations, Atzo Nicolaà ¯ paid Aruba a first acquaintance visit in August, and if it is up to Prime Minister Nelson Oduber, it was also his last.
ARUBA – The relationship between the Netherlands and Aruba is currently so bad that the visit of the Dutch minister Atzo Nicolaà ¯ that is planned for this coming Monday will possibly be cancelled.
Article 29 of the Charter for the Kingdom of the Netherlands prescribes that for the contracting and guaranteeing of loans outside the Kingdom, Aruba needs the approval of the Federal Government or the National Council of Ministers, which is made up of the council of ministers of the Netherlands, supplemented with the ministers Plenipotentiary of Aruba and the Neth.Antilles.
LOAN
Aruba now wants to borrow 50 million dollars from the Deutsche Bank, but this bank doesn’t want to complete the transaction as long as the Federal Government does not approve the loan. The Netherlands’s condition for this is that article 29 should not only apply to foreign loans, but to all loans that Aruba contracts. In addition, the Netherlands wants the guarantee that the Aruban government does not touch the reserves of the Central Bank of Aruba (CBA). The Oduber-cabinet says that by doing this, The Hague is in breach of the Statute.
“I have an unpleasant feeling about this and that is a shame”, says Oduber. Aruba and the Netherlands were according to him, on the right path in the negotiations concerning the new political relations within the Kingdom. “We were willing to collaborate in the field of police and foreigners policy, but I have the feeling now that there is a catch and perhaps more.”
DEFERRED
Oduber says that at this moment, there is no zest to continue negotiating. The continuation of the negotiations and the visit of Nicolaà ¯ depend on the results of the deliberation of the Dutch minister with the permanent House-committee Netherlands-Antillean and Aruban Affairs (NAAZ). This committee of the Lower House met with the minister on the political developments of the Neth.Antilles yesterday, and also Aruba was brought up.
Besides, not only the negotiations concerning the new relations within the Kingdom were deferred, but also other talks, in which Aruba was willing to collaborate more with the Netherlands. “We will now wait and see. If the Netherlands continues to hold on to her position, we will then wait till after the elections of November 22nd. In that case, Nicolaà ¯ can better stay in the Netherlands and run campaign and hope that the VVD gets back in the government”, said Oduber.
RESERVATION
AVP-leader Mike Eman indicated that he can understand why the Netherlands makes a reservation with regard to the loans. “The foreign loans are increasing, the integrity of the authorities is under dispute and the government clashes with institutions, like the General Audit Office, the Central Bank, and her own Accountants’ service. Several government organizations denied this institution access when it wanted to conduct audits.”
He also says that the Advisory Council disagreed with more than 50 percent of the new legislation, but that the Oduber-cabinet has still enforced the new laws. “We can understand that the Dutch-cabinet doesn’t want to approve the loans, at least until it is clear what the government is going to do about her high spending.”
INTERFERENCE
The Aruban government is of the opinion that the Dutch government is violating the Statute by making the contracting of loans outside the Kingdom conditional. The Federal Government can do this, because the Statute states that actions can be taken in three cases: when contracting a loan affects the international position of the entire Kingdom; when due to the loan, the country in question gets in a subordinate position of a foreign power; and when a loan violates the sound government of the applicant country.
The Dutch minister of Finance, Gerrit Zalm (VVD) has used this last reason for attaching a condition to the loans that Aruba wants to contract. But the Aruban government is of the opinion that this is not correct, because Zalm could have only done that if he has perception of the current government finances of Aruba and the prognoses, which he doesn’t have, according to the spokesperson of the Oduber government. Besides, the Netherlands has comparatively a bigger debt than Aruba, respectively 60 and 46 percent of the government budget.

i just read where the world is willing to accept the new name for ARUBA.
from this point on, to be referred to as “TOILET”
not THE TOILET
just plain old “TOILET”
Hahaha…..Hey Aruba…no body has confidence in you….like no body no crime?
You know what you gotta do. Send Natalee home and lock up the perps. Real simple..That will plug the leak in your dam, otherwise when the little guy has an itch and he takes his finger out of the leak, well you know the rest. SWOOOSH Aruba all gone.
“Justice for Natalee Holloway or Aruba’s tourism will never have a chance … ”
Took the words right out of my mouth ( or right off my keyboard!)
I hope that Julia Renfro is right about the unlikelihood of J2K being cleared on November 1.
However, I don’t trust her. What if it is just a smokescreen and we are caught by surprise?
I agree with Richard that we need to voice our objections loud and clear and soon–perhaps BEFORE Nov. 1.
Aruba is in no position to call the shots.
this will continue even if the case were to be solved today. the damage is already done. aruba, you should not have thought of Natalee as just “one american girl”. she has the backing of millions of people.
your island has been revealed as the dangerous place that it is to the world. save face now and do your duty. you know what that duty is. bring out the truth and prosecute, you will feel much better.
“Toilet” come clean now and tourism will be back within 2-3 years
TOLIET doesnt come clean and TOURISM is gone for 20 years
TOILET is BAD – DO NOT GO there
What has happened to everyone in Aruba who posed for the cameras in the beginning of the Natalee Holloway Case. Are people distancing themselves from the information that they put out there? If what you said was the truth you’d stand by it, not disappear. As Arlene said “just vanished”
We all know by now that Natalee Ann Holloway did not JUST VANISH…
“I have an unpleasant feeling about this and that is a shame”,…. Nelson Oduber
I have an more than unpleasant feeling about Aruba also.
So, do they know how to play nice with anyone in Aruba ?
I just scanned the article and it seems that they want to make loans and be given money, but do NOT want any questions asked .
Par for the course.
hahahahahaha how crazy is this???Lets hope the Dutch do the right thing. We are not asking much, just bring home “ONE AMERICAN GIRL” and this will all go away. Who would loan an Island that has lost face any money. You would be throwing the money away. Face the facts Oderbur[sp]whatever you did to Natalee and we all know you were involved, just fess up.
Justice,please,now.Actions speak louder than words.joe
It seems the Dutch may have caught a whif of the foul scent left lingering by the corrupt investigation into Natalee’s disapppearance. Clever they are to recognize that all facets of government there smell…..and are best kept at a safe distance.
post 11. Perfuming the pig is what it is called.. Perfume will not longer cover up the smell of the pig(s)
Just wonder if the Dutch have a sense that something really bad is going to become known in Aruba (anyone who’s been on this forum for a while knows what my take on that would be!), and so are consciously distancing themselves.
Might be too much to hope for, but you never know …. Hey, would YOU want to acknowledge that you had a connection with the happy island?
Actually, Aruba and the Netherlands have been at loggerheads for some time. A few years back, whichever bozo was prime minister of Aruba at the time threatened to withdraw KLM’s landing rights, according to Caribbean Net News.
By the way, readers might be interested to know that in 1996. then-President Bill Clinton put Aruba on the list of TOP countries that served as illicit drug transit centers.
Aruba was eligible for decertification from this elite status in 1997, but didn’t get it. Don’t know if it has since then.
Also, in 1993 Aruba businessmen Randy Habibe and Jossy Arends were indicted in the U.S. in what was called the La Costa scandal. It was found that from 1980 on, they had smuggled 80 tons of cocaine and 250,000 pounds of marijuana, and had laundered $800 million.
I believe, though I’m not sure about this (my notes are messed up), that the U.S. asked them to extradite Habibe and Aruba refused to do so. The humanitarian grounds cited were that he was depressed at the prospect of a long term in a U.S. jail.
Fair enough … but is that a reason he shouldn’t be extradited here?
Well now, isn’t that special???
Aruba thought it was going
to JUST WALK TOTALLY FREE – WITH NO
PROBLEMS, provided it was
all clean and neat… Natalee
would stay missing forever.
Wahoo Aruuuuuuuuuuba (not)
They thought people would
forget, and go back to normal.

The happy safe island a number of warnings, before May,2005.They were hidden under different names. It has been well known, that drugs and money laudering is done there.i feel the stink will remain, for a long time. The Dutch have to woory about the tourist to The Netherlands and other possions, due to many of the same reasons. The Netherlands has an angry Islamic core, that started the first attacks against Europeans,in the 1880′s.They were Arabic, either. The entire Dutch Colonial islands are drug havens,in general.Someone has to start the cleaning up ,now.Joe

In his next career move, Oduber should become a comedian, like Baghdad Bob.

It’s actually “Come Dance in Aruba”. And you know who had the project?
God Bless Beth and Dave !!!!!!!!!!!
I would guess the van der Sloots and Kalpoes are not safe in Aruba. If I were a native Aruban, I would want to void our island of the guys who are bringing us down. There are nearly 100,000 people down there, and eventually some of them are going to look very hard on the PJ2K gang. Sleep well PJ2K, someone in your neighborhood may be watching and waiting. In the mean time, we in the USA will continue to boycott, block, and do whatever we can to bring down the corrupt govenment in Aruba.
nam, You would think so , but in FACT they LOVE him down there.
Gretachild, do you ever read what people write here? We actually put words together to form sentences. Wouldn’t this be an exiting place if we all said over and over again: I agree 100%. That seems to be all you’re capable of. I now agree with most here, you’re just a pitiful little troll and I feel sorry for you, because you will never be more than that.
Stop agreeing with anything I post, because you haven’t a clue what you read.
chris, LOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!God Bless you and have a GREAT DAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Viet Vet … Why hasn’t someone done that already? Could it be that people there are afraid of whom they suspect to be behind the vdS clan? I would think a lot of people in Aruba are afraid these days….
Richard
Fear and almost half the island were or are suspects, or someone they are related to is or was a suspect.
Where is Steve the spokesman and Arlene the spokeslady at?
Richard, Because they all LOVE him. God bless BETH !!!
Down with the gangraping murdering
Van der Sloot and Kalpoes who stand
now — as they did then…
with Natalee Holloway’s blood
dripping from their hands.
IMO They should be jailed -
*If* jail is not an option
than my nect choice would be
assassinated.
Aruba, you soil yourself on a daily basis.
You are a disgrace like the
parasitic Van der Rapes
& Kalpoes.
I wish 10 times worse on you
for what you have done to
the Holloway-Twitty families.
and Kalpoes.

Not everyone has lost confidence in Aruba. I was just there and there is no shortage of toursists from the US. Some of us are intelligent enough to realize that there is more than one missing person from the United States, and most of them have gone missing while IN the United States. Should we start boycotting all the cities/states where these people went missing and their cases go unsolved? Aruba is still safer than just about any place I have visited in the US. However you have to follow some basic rules – don’t get into a car with strangers!
_____________
SM: First off, the USA does not portray itself as “One Happy Island” that is safer than most. Please read the statistics below. Aruba has a higher murder rate than the USA per capita
Â
U.S. 2005 Statistics -
Murder and Non-Negligent Manslaughter
This one is for all the Arubans who like to comment about our crime statistics in the United States. Statistics are from the FBI’s just released 2005 reports.
National Average: 5.6 per 100,000
http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/05cius/data/table_01.html
For Population Groups 50,000 — 99,999: 3.6
http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/05cius/data/table_16.html
(In general, this means cities or other entities of this size.)
Per our Murder & Crime thread (see my sig line), Aruba seems to have at least 7 homicides for 2005 (counting Natalee), and 4 thus far in 2006.
Aruba’s population is 71,891 (July 2006 est.) per the CIA World Factbook.

Has anyone decided to produce a movie of this horrible kidnapping, rape and murder of this beautiful American girl? I realize that this would probably result in a lawsuit. The movie could be released in Alabama and the lawsuit could be in their jurisdiction. I really do not think that they (the PJ2K) would show up for this one. The plot could also include Amy…
