Try as they might to reinvent themselves through marketing gimmicks, Aruba … no one is buying it. The occupancy rates will continue to decline, the number of tourists will decline and so will the rates. Aruba has become a bargain basement vacation and radio game show give away gimmick.
Your image has nearly become carved in stone. Unless Aruba does something to actually solve this case and prosecute those responsible, the tarnished image and connection with Natalee Holloway’s disappearance will never go away.

Seems likely that the mere mention of Natalee Holloway would be cause for deep discounts for potential Aruba tourists. Attempts to distance itself from a botched cover up only darkens Aruba’s image. Truth and Justice is the prescription for the abolishment of Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt. So long as the question remains unanswered, the Natalee Holloway/Aruba association will persist.

Okay guys, Thanks to Meee, who gave me the link to the DAILY NEWS.. It is 30,000.00 for a half page ad for one day. The ad has to be approved by their legal department before we can go any further. Once it is approved, then they will run the ad. The woman I spoke with was so kind and she KNEW ALL ABOUT NATALEE. Dont think for one minute that people have forgotten NATALEE. Everywhere I go people comment on my bracelet. I think we can send them the CRIMES AND MURDERS thread that was put together on SM…Tom, Red, Klass???? What say you?

As mentioned in a prior thread. I have seen Aruba resorts advertising themselves as “Dutch Antilles” rather than Aruba. Essentially, they are trying to distance themselves from the name “Aruba” by utilizing “Dutch Antilles”.
In 1986, Aruba left the “Dutch Antilles” and is not considered a part. Thus, the resorts are false advertising in order to get people to come there!
Bwwwwaaahhaaaaahhhhhaaaaaa! So its come to this…hide the fact that you are in Aruba to get tourists!!!

Status of Aruba
The island of Aruba formed a part of the Netherlands Antilles till 1986. On January 1 of that year Aruba stepped out of the Antilles and got its own status as a separate colony of the Netherlands. It was agreed that Aruba would achieve independence ten years later (thus in 1996). The governments of Aruba and the Netherlands however, agreed recently that Aruba will stay part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and will not become an independent state in 1996. There is no other date set. Aruba has economic reasons to stay under the umbrella of The Netherlands.
Don’t know where y’all are looking, but I haven’t seen any discounted flights or hotel rates. As much as i hear about slower tourism, I am surprised to find such high rates. I realize it is going on high season, but I dont see anything reflected in their pricing.

I would think that if any ad were run at that cost, it should be in relation to some key development in the case.
If an ad were run without a specific stimulus, so to speak, it would be read today and gone tomorrow. But if it were intended to generate influence on a particular matter (for example, if the Dutch had announced that they would end their probe on such-and-such a date), it might have some impact.

I’ve been wondering the same thing Sharon in Chicago. I personally don’t think it will happen and if it does, it won’t be legit. It is just a way to make it appear as they they are acutally doing something…and so they can close the case.

MN Dad: Good catch on the name change. I came across my Frommer’s book on Aruba yesterday while recycling my travel books. It states “Although the island gained independence from the Netherlands Antilles in 1986, it remains an autonomous unit of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.” So people don’t get fooled by this we now need bumper stickers that read: In case you didn’t know Aruba=The Netherlands Antilles. Slashes would have to run through Aruba and The Netherlands Antilles.
There were 3 ads for Aruba in the Chicago Tribune Travel Section this Sunday. I know it depends on the time of year and the hotel but it seems as if my husband and I could go for $500.00 less now than the August before Natalee went missing. I also noticed incentives in the ads such as cruises and land tours included. I will write to the travel editor if I see that Aruba just becomes known as The Netherlands or Dutch Antilles. Just the same old stuff from Lieruba.
