Happy Independence Day; July 4, 2006: One Nation Under God

On this 4th of July as we spend time with family, friends and watch firework displays; please do not forget all those that have made the ultimate sacrifice so that we could maintain our Independence.

Nor the document where it all began, The Declaration of Independence.

Declaration of Ind

The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America,

When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people Dec of Ind signingto dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, –That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. On this day that we celebrate our countries Independence, let us not ever forget the true reason for this day.

The GateWay Pundit reminds us of Red Skelton’s “Pledge of Allegiance” from 1969 and that WE ARE, ONE NATION, UNDER GOD …

And now, boys and girls, let me hear you recite the Pledge of Allegiance:

I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic, for which it stands; one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Since I was a small boy, two states have been added to our country, and two words have been added to the Pledge of Allegiance: Under God. Wouldn’t it be a pity if someone said that is a prayer, and that would be eliminated from schools, too?

We are also reminded from Michelle Malkin who has a tremendous 4th of July roundup, the speech that Zell Miller (former Senator from GA) gave at the Republican National Convention.

Never in the history of the world has any soldier sacrificed more for the US marinesfreedom and liberty of total strangers than the American soldier.

And, our soldiers don’t just give freedom abroad, they preserve it for us here at home.

For it has been said so truthfully that it is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us the freedom of the press.

It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the soldier, not the agitator, who has given us the freedom to protest.

It is the soldier who salutes the flag, serves beneath the flag, whose coffin is draped by the flag, who gives that protester the freedom he abuses to burn that flag.

To all, Happy Fourth of July …
