The Head Of the Labor Dept Doesn’t Work?

Some stories just by their comical and unbelievable facts makes one scratch their head and wonder. It would appear that the MA State Director of the Department Labor does not work.

Governor Mitt Romney yesterday ordered Angelo R. Buonopane to pay $20,000 in restitution to the state for unauthorized time off taken by Buonopane since January 2004

Globe report Sunday that showed Buonopane worked less than three hours a day.

The Globe story found that Buonopane, who earns $108,000, had no obvious duties.

Kimball called compelling the evidence presented in the Globe story that Buonopane arrived late at his office, took long lunches, and left early.

Yeah, so? Sounds like any one of my old manager and second line managers when I worked in Corporate America. What was really interesting was the comment,

However, Kimball added: ”It’s not a fire-able offense. It’s not active malfeasance, not failure to perform duties.

He has a point. How can one be fired for being malfeasant and failed to perform their duties if as previously reported by the Globe, “Buonopane, who earns $108,000, had no obvious duties.” If one has no job description, how can one be derelict in them?

On a serious note its just another example of rewarding political favors that both Republicans and Democrats are guilty of. However, you guys may not want to make it look so obvious.

‘Real ID’ Bill, American’s Would Be Against This, Why?

In a post 9-11 World and a day in which of boarders are under a constant threat, We have politicians actually preventing us from being more safe. James Sensenbrenner has been at the forefront of this issue. What a novel concept, a form of National ID. (WI-R) passed the House 261-161 on Feb. 10, THE ID BILL, and now looks to the Senate.

The act would prohibit anyone without a federally recognized state-issued ID from boarding an airplane or accessing federal programs that require federally recognized identification.

“The legislation does not try to set states’ policy for those who may or may not drive a car, but it does address the use of a drivers’ license as a form of identification to a federal official,” Sensenbrenner said in a floor statement on the measure.

It is about time that legislators take this serious and stop worrying who may get upset by the passage of such a bill. This idea actually works on two fronts, terrorism and illegal immigration.
The idea for a fraud-resistant ID system was recommended by the Sept. 11 commission as a way to prevent terrorists from gaining access to legitimate identities, much the way it was done by the terrorists behind the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, who held valid drivers’ licenses when they boarded U.S. planes.

Congress should start to concern themselves with protecting our borders and protecting WE THE PEOPLE.

Peter Jennings Diagnosed with Lung Cancer

Yesterday afternoon Peter Jennings was diagnosed with lung cancer. He will continue to headline “World News Tonight” as much as his treatment regime allows.

He told his staff in an email:

Dear All — Forgive me the group mailing — but it seems the easiest way to tell a lot of people I care for ….. about a change in my life.
I have been diagnosed with lung cancer. Yes, it was quite a surprise.
As you all know, this is a challenge. I begin chemo-therapy next week. I will continue to do the broadcast.
There will be good days and bad, which means that some days I may be cranky and some days really cranky! Almost 10 million Americans are living with cancer.
I am sure I will learn from them how to cope with the facts of life that none of us anticipated.
In all the years I have worked here I have had the most outstanding support from this news division.
Hundreds of you have been like family. It feels good to have such a family right now.

Peter

More from Fox and ABC News with some bio and related info.

I will admit that I rarely agree with Peter Jennings on much of the issues; however, 66 years old is far too young. Our hopes and prayers are with you and your family. Godspeed and get well soon.

BUSH PASSED OVER CARTER IN POPE FUNERAL PICK

Talk about a case of pick your poison. This would have been a great multiple choice question:

Who would you wish to take in your delegation to the Pope’s funeral if only allowed 5 people?

A. Former President Jimmy Carter… May not want to take him because of this.
B. Former President William Clinton… This little dittie may not be very Vatican like.

Tough choice, but I’d opt for Laura and this guy, this one, and this little cuttie. What the heck, I’d fly down to Crawford and make room for one more.

Much better choices. Add who you would take over the choice of Clinton or Carter.

The Border Patrol is Worried about The Minutemen.

The Border Patrol has concerns over the Minutemen, because their patrols may trip some sensors they have out  on the border.

Over the past few days, they have set off sensors, forcing agents to respond to false alarms, said Supervisory Border Patrol Agent Jose Maheda.

“Every sensor has to be addressed,” Maheda said. “It’s taken away from our normal operations.”

Let us see. The bureaucratic mentality that we have to worry about sensors going off, at the same time there are a half million illegal immigrants going through the border into Arizona every year. Aren’t their concerns a little misplaced? And if the sensors are that important, why are they so ineffective.

If I had to take a guess, this is the beginning of a big CYA by the border agents.
