Robin Sax of the Woman in Crime Ink offered up her Top Criminal Cases for 2008 in their Year in Review. Some of the cases reviewed and most likely discussed this evening will be Caylee Anthony, O.J. Simpson, Clark Rockefeller, Vince Weiguang Li and the Canada bus murder, Eve Carson, the Texas Polygamist Ranch and many more.

Scared Monkeys has covered many of these stories as well in 2008 and many more including the on going story of the disappearance of Natalee Holloway in Aruba. 2008 proved to be rather interesting and bizarre as one time suspect in Natalee’s disappearance Joran Van der Sloot admitted not once, but twice during the year of his involvement in the crime only to recant and state he was lying. In an interview he actually admitted to kidnapping and human trafficking of Natalee Holloway. Then, like clockwork he said he was lying.

Tune in tonight for a great year in review.

Obama Outraged by Satirical Free Speech New Yorker Magazine Cover

Add satire to the long list of things that Obama and the Obama campaign claim that we cannot talk about their candidate. Barack Obama, I think thou dost protest too much. Do you not understand satire and sarcasm? Or does the Obama campaign protest because they think it hits too close to home in their depiction? If Obama and his campaign believe their assertions that they New Yorker is making about the many unfounded and rumors on the internet as being absurd … then why do they have a problem with this absurd cover? Maybe Obama does not think its satire … maybe he thinks its real.

Once again we are presented with some insight in to the novice that is Barack Obama and his reaction to one simple satirical magazine cover.

Obama_new_yorker

So now the Obama campaign is against the First Amendment and “Free Speech”. Some one may want to notify Obama that there is freedom of the press and free speech in the United States. You know Barack, that country with 60 states and the one that your wife Michelle has never been proud of before, that you wish to be President of. Where was Obama’s outrage over the political satirical cartoons that have graces the covers of magazines and the pages of newspapers of George W. Bush for the past 8 years? Hmm?

The Obama camp is outraged by the cover of the New Yorker. They claim its tasteless and offensive. At least they cannot claim that it is a smear job from the “Right Wing Conspiracy”.  Both Obama and McCain need to chill. Its called politics and free speech. You know what they say about not being able to handle the heat.

Barack Obama’s campaign decried Monday a satirical cartoon on the cover of The New Yorker magazine showing the Democratic presidential hopeful wearing Islamic dress while his wife holds a Kalashnikov.
The influential weekly defended its cover, titled “The Politics of Fear,” as a critique of unfounded allegations during the campaign that have attempted to paint Obama, who is Christian, as a closet radical Muslim.

“Our cover ‘The Politics of Fear’ combines a number of fantastical images about the Obamas and shows them for the obvious distortions they are,” said New Yorker editor David Remnick.

New Yorker editor defends cover

The fact of the matter is that all things negative against Obama have been deemed off limits. Late night talk show comedians have had a field day with John McCain; however, jokes of Obama are no where to be found.

Comedy has been no easier for the phalanx of late-night television hosts who depend on skewering political leaders for a healthy quotient of their nightly monologues. Jay Leno, David Letterman, Conan O’Brien and others have delivered a nightly stream of jokes about the Republican running for president — each one a variant on the same theme: John McCain is old.

But there has been little humor about Obama: about his age, his speaking ability, his intelligence, his family, his physique. And within a late-night landscape dominated by white hosts, white writers, and overwhelmingly white audiences, there has been almost none about his race.

Listen to the excuse that the leftists make on the Talk Shows as to why there is no Obama material. Talk about making excuses for their messiah. Obama has made tons of gaffes (HERE, HERE & HERE) along the way, the liberal TV just doesn’t want to show them.

“The thing is, he’s not buffoonish in any way,” said Mike Barry, who started writing political jokes for Johnny Carson’s monologues in the waning days of the Johnson administration and has lambasted every presidential candidate since, most recently for Letterman. “He’s not a comical figure,” Barry said.

UPDATE I: Christopher Hitchens Weighs in on the Barack Obama cartoon controversy

Is Barack Obama to thin skinned to be President of the United States? He certainly seems to be in at ever time he is criticised or made fun of, Obama over-reacts. However, the reality is … is Obama intelligent enough to be President? As The Vodka Pundit reminds us from the New Yorker article, they are not making fun of Obama, The New Yorker is making fun of “lowly white hicks”. Doesn’t Obama get that?

The New Yorker cover isn’t great satire. It’s not even good satire. At best, it’s cheap sarcasm - if you’ll forgive the redundancy. Blitt’s art merely encourages you to sneer, as Hitchens noted, at the “lowly white hicks.”

Grisly Autopsy Report of Murdered UNC Student Body President Eve Carson Killed After Shot Multiple Times

The heinous murder of Eve Carson, the popular president of UNC’s student Eve Carson4body shocked the campus of Chapel Hill and the country earlier this year. Her body was found on March 5, 2008 the intersection of Hillcrest Drive and Hillcrest Circle.  Original reports stated that she died of multiple gun shots to the head.

Some three months later, the autopsy of Eve Carson is being made public. The autopsy states that Eve Carson was shot 5 times. One thing is for certain after reading the autopsy reports, NC should bring back the firing squad or hanging for the two suspects, Demario Atwater and Lawrence Lovett Jr., who committed the crime. NC may want to think about a public stoning. Both are charged with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of Eve Carson.

Carson’s autopsy report lists six gunshot wounds, but says two were probably from the same bullet, according to North Carolina’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Her autopsy — released after a North Carolina newspaper filed a court motion to have it unsealed — describes wounds to various parts of Carson’s body. It says shotgun wounds to her head and hand “most likely represent a single shot with the hand acting as an intermediate target.”

One of the other four wounds was also a gunshot to her head.

A separate, handwritten summary of the medical examiner’s report says Carson was “shot multiple times” and found lying on her back, with one arm bent behind her head.

The autopsy says sexual assault testing was done. It does not say whether any sign of sexual assault was found.

VIDEO

Why did they have to kill her? The whole incident was about a robbery. The two suspects abducted and kidnapped Eve Carson and forced her to give them access to her ATM account where they withdrew $1400 over a two day period. Eve Carson’s final minutes are documented HERE.

Lawrence Alvin Lovett (Lovette) Jr. & Demario James Atwater Charged in the Murder of UNC Coed Eve Carson

Two people have been charged in the senseless murder of UNC coed Eve Carson. 21 year old Demario James Atwater of Durham, NC and 17 year old Lawrence Alvin Lovett Jr. They have both been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Eve Carson. The are still searching for Lovette.

They walk among us … As it turns out, both Atwater and Lovett have criminal pasts and have previously been convicted of felonies. Why are we not surprised? Charge then and then let them loose on an unsuspecting public so that persons like Eve Carson, with all the promise and hopes, who represent the best of our young people are murdered.

Authorities have arrested a second suspect in the murder of University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill student body president Eve Carson. 17 year old Lawrence Alvin Lovette Jr. was arrested

Lovette, 17, surrendered without incident after four hours, Durham Carson_Lawrence Alvin Lovette Jrpolice Lt. Robert McLaughlin Jr. said.

He is the second man police were looking for in their investigation into Carson’s death.

Police released surveillance-camera photos from an ATM last week. The photographs showed a young man wearing a hooded sweatshirt and baseball cap possibly using one of Carson’s ATM cards, police said. The pictures showed a shape that police said appeared to be a second person in the back seat of the vehicle, which may have been Carson’s SUV.

Chapel Hill Police Chief Brian Curran told reporters they believe Lovette was driving the car in the ATM photos and Atwater was in the back seat. (CNN)

2nd suspect arrested in UNC student’s slaying

According to the North Carolina Department of Corrections Web site, both suspects have criminal pasts. Atwater has been convicted of two felonies, including possession of a firearm by a felon, and Lovett was found guilty of misdemeanor breaking and entering and larceny in January.

Thanks in part to two sets of surveillance camera photos released by authorities, police received hundreds of tips from the community. The photos were taken when someone tried to use Carson’s ATM card — police say they show Lovett at a drive-up teller machine, and Atwater at a convenience store.

More Pictures of Eve Carson Murder Suspect “Person of Interest” Caught on Surveillance photos in NC … Crime Gang Related?

Police have released to the public more pictures of the main suspect “person of interest” in the murder of University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill coed Eve Carson. The new photo shows the same suspect that was seen on the ATM video, attempting to use Eve Carson’s ATM card at a convenience store. Question: Did the clerk at the store not notice that the “person of interest” using the ATM card was a black male whose name was most likely not … Eve Carson as stated on her ATM? Was it reported to police at the time? Wouldn’t that be identity theft? Was the card confiscated or was the purchase allowed to go through?

Was There a Second Person In ATM Surveillance Photos of UNC Coed Eve Carson’s Killing

Police are now looking into whether there was a second person in the back Eve_carson2seat of the SUV picture taken from the ATM surveillance camera in the case of murdered University of North Carolina coed Eve Carson.

St. Louis-based photography expert William Mathis also recognized the outline of another person in the back seat of the SUV while creating color-enhanced, enlarged copies of two black and white images provided by police, the Raleigh Chronicle reported.

Could the person in the back seat be Eve Carlson or an accomplice? See police released pictures HERE.

Police are seeking second person.

Chapel Hill Police tell FOX News there was a second person in the vehicle driven by a man they say was trying to use murdered University of North Carolina student body president Eve Carson’s ATM card Sunday. Police Chief Brian Curran told FOX News officials are now seeking the second figure discovered in the original black and white ATM photos. Cops have said the SUV in the surveillance photo could be Carson’s blue 2005 Toyota Highlander and if there was a second person in the back seat, it could explain how the killer or killers got away.

As authorities continue to investigate this senseless killing; fiends, family and loved one’s remember and mourn Eve Carson.

The world was a better place because of Eve Carson.

Police Release Pictures/Photo of Suspect at ATM in the Murder of UNC Coed Eve Carson

Could this be the lead that breaks the case of the murder of UNC’s Eve Carson? Eve Carson died from multiple gun shot wounds near campus. Her SUV was later found. Did the suspect in Eve Carson’s death actually drive her SUV to an ATM and use her ATM bank cards? Did he do this before or after he killed her?

The police have released two photos of a suspect in the murder of 22 year old University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill coed Eve Carson. The pictures show the suspect, a black man in his teens or early 20’s in an SUV that may be Eve Carson’s, pulling up to an ATM.

Chief Brian Curran described the photos as “the biggest break” and “strongest lead” in the case yet.

Two photographs show a black man in his late teens or early 20s. He is riding in a sport-utility vehicle with a roof rack that might have been Carson’s. Officers emphasized they did not definitively know if the vehicle belonged to Carson.

A third photograph shows a green ball cap with an orange star that the man was wearing.

The photographs were taken by a camera at an automated-teller machine, but Curran did not disclose when and where they were taken. Those questions, he said, would be reserved for when police questioned the suspect.

Anyone with any information or if you recognize this thug in the pictures please call police at 919-968-2760 or Crime Stoppers at 919-942-7515 if they think they have information that might help.
