Despicable: CBS News Reporter Lara Logan Sexually Assaulted & Beaten by Group of Egyptian Men During Anti-Mubarak, Freedom Protests

PEACE AND FREEDOM???

On the very day that Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak stepped down, we learn that CBS’ foreign correspondent Lara Logan was covering the story in Tahrir Square for a “60 Minutes,” was separated from her news crew, surrounded by a group of men and savagely sexual assaulted and beaten. She was flown back to the United States and is in a New York hospital recovering. Little more is being said.

In the crush of the mob, she was separated from her crew. She was surrounded and suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating before being saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers. She reconnected with the CBS team, returned to her hotel and returned to the United States on the first flight the next morning. She is currently home recovering.

In a word, sickening! Has their ever been a news event that was supposed to be based on freedom where so many journalist covering the story were put in danger and attacked? Lara Logan had earlier been detained in Egypt. I have to agree with Jammie Wearing Fool regarding … so this is how peace loving Egyptians celebrate their freedom from a dictator, with a good old fashion “gang rape” of an American female infidel.

What might be just as sickening, from NRO comes a report of  the reaction to Logan’s assault from a fellow at the NYU Center for Law and Security, Nir Rosen.

But let’s just remember one thing going forward: Nir Rosen believed this was the right moment to let the world know that he “ran out of sympathy for her” and that we should “remember her role as a major war monger” and that we “have to find humor in the small things.”

Arizona Sen. John McCain predicted on Sunday that the recent governmental overthrow in Egypt would likely spur similar movements throughout the world, and warned foreign leaders in countries like China and Russia that they might be “a little less secure” of their power in light of recent events.

“I don’t think this is confined to the Middle East, just as we believe that human rights are universal,” said McCain, in an interview with CBS’ “Face the Nation.”

These winds of change that are blowing, I think I would be a little less cocky in the Kremlin with my KGB cronies today if I were [Russian Prime Minister] Vladimir Putin,” he warned.“I would be a little less secure in the seaside resort that [Chinese] President Hu and a few men who govern and decide the fate of 1.3 billion people.”

Mark Steyn Calls Director of National Intelligence James Clapper an Idiot

From the Daily Caller, Mark Steyn calls James Clapper, the Director of National Intelligence what every one was thinking … “An Idiot”. During an interview on “America Live with Megyn Kelly,” Mark Steynwas not at a loss for words with regards to James Clapper. The “secular” Muslim Brotherhood … how can such an individual continue to be apart of those that advise a US President in a post 9-11 world and with the turmoil that presently exists in the Middle East? It is unacceptable to US National security. As PJ Media states … “Clapper On, Intelligence off”.

On Friday’s “America Live with Megyn Kelly,” columnist Mark Steyn had some harsh words for Clapper, not only for the intelligence failures surrounding the Egyptian turmoil, but also for his comments that the Muslim Brotherhood as a “secular” organization.

“This is the director of intelligence of the global superpower and he is going on one of the most historic days in the Middle East – he is going around the world announcing that the guy in charge of U.S. intelligence is an idiot,” Steyn said. “A few weeks ago just before Christmas, he was oblivious to the biggest terror bust of the day.”

As stated at RealClearWorld, even after clarification to Clapper’s jaw dropping comment, the reaction to such a bizarre and ill-conceived comment was beyond the pale.

Even with a near-immediate clarification release from his office, Clapper’s statement prompted derision of both the restrained and the angry variety. NBC’s Richard Engel called it a “head snap” moment. Perhaps the mildest response I could find was Jake Tapper’s comments on ABC News, stating simply: “The Muslim Brotherhood is quite obviously not a secular organization.”

Along with the good of the Egyptian people finally being heard, we get the insane rants from the Middle East as well in the form of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.  Ahmadinejad calls for Mideast without Israel and US. Is any one surprised.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says Egypt’s popular uprising shows a new Middle East is emerging, one that will have no signs of Israel and US “interference.”

Newt Gingrich Calls Obama Administration “Weak” and “Amateurs In Foreign Policy”

YIKES!!!

Former Republican Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich comments on the Obama Administration otherwise known as the ”Gang that Couldn’t Shoot Straight”. Gingrich said, “If We End Up With an Islamist Regime in Egypt, It Will Be Catastrophic”. Egypt on the verge of exploding, the Middle East anxiously watching and we have rank amateurs in office residing over US foreign policy.

Gingrich said:

“This is the most incompetent performance (by the Obama administration) since Jimmy Carter presided over the collapse of the American Alliance in Iran in 1978-79.”

“People will realize that this is a very weak government led by a group of amateurs in foreign policy.”

Remember when Joe Biden said that Obama was not ready to be President during the 2008 campaign … “the job does not lend itself to on the job training” (VIDEO).

From Mediaite, CIA Director Leon Panetta testified to Congress today of a “strong likelihood” that Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak would step down based on media reports. WHAT!!! A CIA director based his comments on media reports and not intelligence. UNREAL!

The worse part isn’t that Panetta was basing his statement on on media reports (and not intelligence.) No, National Intelligence Director James Clapper outdid Panetta with his erroneous claim that the Muslim Brotherhood is a “secular” organization.

More from the NY Times:

American officials said Mr. Panetta was basing his statement not on secret intelligence but on media broadcasts, which began circulating before he sat down before the House Intelligence Committee. But a senior administration official said Mr. Obama had also expected that Egypt was on the cusp of dramatic change. Speaking at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, he said, “We are witnessing history unfold,” adding, “America will do everything we can to support an orderly and genuine transition to democracy.”
