New Years Day Bowls, SEC West Takes the State of Michigan Out Back of the Wood Shed (Miss St, Alabama Hammer Michigan & Mich St) (Update: TCU Wins Rose Bowl)
BIG TEN NO MATCH FOR THE SEC …
The SEC West powers Mississippi State Bulldogs and the Alabama Crimson Tide flexed their muscles and opened up a super-sized can of whoop a$$ on the Big Ten state of Michigan. The SEC teams won by a collective 101 to 21, YIKES. From the opening to ending whistle, The Bulldogs and Tide ripped the Wolverines and Spartans, respectively.
Progressive Gator Bowl: Mississippi State 52 – Michigan 14
Capital One Bowl: Alabama 49 – Michigan St 7
To make matter worse for the BIG 10, Penn St lost to the Florida Gators in the Outback Bowl in Urban Myers final game as coach, 37-24.To further add insult to injury to the Big 10, in the Ticket City Bowl, Texas Tech beat a game Northwestern team, 45-38.
Can the Wisconsin Badgers save the Big 10 from a 0 and 5 New Years day bowl drubbing? Wisconsin takes on the upstart TCU Horn Frogs in the Grand Daddy of em all, the Rose Bowl.
UPDATE I: SHOCKER!!! TCU Beats Wisconsin 21 -19 to win the Rose Bowl … they won one for the little guys!
David slays Goliath again, today we were witness to a college football “Hoosiers” as little Hickory won the Indiana state basket ball championship and now the non BCS qualifier TCU Horn Frogs have won the Rose Bowl. Yes NCAA … non qualifiers do belong in the BCS National Championship game. Do not ever say the small schools do not belong and that they should not play for the BCS championship. The TCU’s and Boise St’s of the world could play with anyone. TCU finishes the season 13-0.
What a day for the BIG TEN … 5 losses!
The only team left for the BIG TEN is Ohio St vs. Arkansas in the Allstate Sugar Bowl for 2011 bowl redemption. Of course The Ohio State Buckeyes should have 5 players suspended for this game, but thanks to NCAA underhanded games, that wont occur until next year. If Ohio St head coach Tressel had any class, he would have held them out of this game on principle.
UPDATE II:Can UCONN pull the biggest upset of the day? Can the University of Connecticut beat the powerhouse Oklahoma Sooners. UCONN … win one for Jasper Howard!
Ohio State investigates Possible NCAA Violations by Football Players … Tattoos & Autographs, Will Players be Suspended from Sugar Bowl? (Update: Terrelle Pryor Suspended in 2011)
Wrong doing from Ohio State? Update … YES THEY DID!!!
Earlier this year the NCAA scandal was Cam Newton and his dad is a pay for play investigation. Now we are presented out of Columbus, OH and the Ohio St Buckeyes, a tattoo for autograph scandal. Because that could never happen. The invesygative probe was the offshoot of another investigation by law enforcement agencies of possible unlawful behavior by the parlor owner, Now it just depends how the bias NCAA wants to enforce their rules and who is considered innocent or guilty until proved guilty. From the Columbus Dispatch come the following:
Ohio State is investigating whether several of its football players traded signed memorabilia for tattoos and perhaps other favors from the owner of a Columbus tattoo parlor, actions that could put their eligibility for the Jan.4 Sugar Bowl and beyond in jeopardy, The Dispatch has learned.
An athletic department spokesman said yesterday that no players had been suspended for the bowl and would not acknowledge that an investigation was taking place, citing privacy issues. Athletic director Gene Smith has not responded to multiple attempts for comment but has scheduled a news conference at noon today.
But quarterback Terrelle Pryor commented on Twitter last night, apparently after seeing his name on some websites as one of those being investigated.
“I paid for my tattoos. GoBucks,” Pryor tweeted.
Sources said the investigation is ongoing and might not be concluded by the bowl.
Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith is slated to “address NCAA rule violations” at a noon ET news conference at the school.
UPDATE I: TERRELE PRYOR AMONG FIVE BUCKEYS SUSPENDED FOR FIRST 5 GAMES OF 2011.
BCS Fiasco … What If Auburn & Oregon Lose While Boise St and TCU Win Out?
Could it be BCS Armageddon today?
Today I am the biggest Alabama and Arizona fan, not so much because I dislike Auburn, even though I think they are overrated. Nor do I dislike Oregon, although I can’t stand their video game offense. They both need to lose so that we can have the BCS in complete disarray to have a playoff system finally implemented in Division I college football.
The BCS and the arrogant BCS qualifying conferences are on the verge of having an uninvited guest at the party. Presently the Oregon Ducks out of the PAC10 and the Auburn Tigers from the SEC are numbers 1 and 2 in the BCS rankings. However … this Thanksgiving holiday NCAA college football weekend could be a major headache for the BCS powers that be. Boise St and more importantly Alabama and Arizona might just throw a monkey wrench in the BCS.
My personal opinion is that Alabama will beat Auburn. Handily might I add. The defending National Champions did not win the SEC West this year and will have no better motivation than to defeat Auburn in the “Iron Bowl”. ROLL TIDE!!!
What is both Auburn and Oregon lose and become a one loss team, while Boise St and TCU become #1 and #2 in the BCS rankings? What to do? Imagine the screaming, crying, whining and belly aching that will come from the major conferences.
If #3 Boise St beats #19 Nevada, then there should be no reason why the ”Blue” smurf turf BSU Broncos should not go to #2. Game on as they would have the inside track to a BCS National Championship game.
UPDATE I: YIKES … The Crimson Tide of Alabama have gone out to a 14-0 lead over the Tigers. I can hear Keith Jackson from his home saying … Whoa Nellie!!! The Auburn defense is as advertised, non-existent.
UPDATE II: Alabama scores again … make it 21-0 Bama … ROLL TIDE!!!
UPDATE III: Alabama 24 – Auburn 0
Half Time: Total Domination. At the half Bama leads 24 – 7 over Auburn, although they should be up 38-7 but for dropped passes and turnovers. Will this come back to bite Bama? Alabama as leads in total yards, 379 to 87. It has been a total mismatch in the first half. One must ask them self who is the Heisman candidate? Cam Newton passing 5-10, 97 yards, 1 TD and 9 carries and -10 yards. Meanwhile Tide QB Greg McElroy is 19-23, 335 yards and 3 TD’s all just in the first half.
Whether Auburn ever gets their offense in gear is one question, but how is the Tiger defense going to stop anyone? Thus the reason why I never wanted to see them in a BCS Championship game against an offense like Oregon.
UPDATE IV:Well Alabama’s screw ups in the first half let Auburn back in the game. They could have finished off Auburn in the first half, instead they let them hang around and now the score is Alabama 24, Auburn 21. The Tide better get their act in gear or Sabin is looking at a 3 loss season in SEC play.
UPDATE V: Let’s call it for what it is … THIS SUCKS! Auburn wins 28-27 as Alabama allows the Tigers to win. UNREAL. This game was lost in the 1st half. Never would I ever think that Bama would let a team roll over them in the second hald on their home field. Bear Bryant just rolled over in his grave.
Illinois – Northwestern: Wrigley Field NCAA Football Stupidity … Safety Concerns, One Way Football
GO WEST YOUNG MAN … It is the only way the teams will be allowed to play due to safety concerns. They knew the spacial concerns of the dimensions of Wrigley Field over a year ago and signed off on this any how.
Who Thought this was ever safe?
Only one end zone will be used for offense Saturday at Wrigley Field for the Illinois-Northwestern game because of safety concerns, the Big Ten announced Friday, and the Chicago Cubs said the decision caught them by surprise.
NCAA College Football:BCS Standings Week Ending 11/14/2010 … All 3 Military Academies Bowl Eligible
Last week the BCS Standings for the Top 10 were as follows. However, after this weeks college games there should be some movement if not some closing of the averages.
CURRENT BCS STANDINGS Team BCS Average
1. Oregon .9638
2. Auburn .9611
3. TCU .9259
4. Boise State .8662
5. LSU .8170
6. Stanford .7454
7. Wisconsin .7349
8. Nebraska .7298
9. Ohio State .6613
10. Oklahoma State .6211
The story of this week should be Ducks nearly grounded, TCU defence who and as the Cam Newton Turns … If there is any justice in the BCS and fairness to Boise State, Oregon will take a hit for their poor performance against Cal and TCU’s near loss to unranked San Diego State. Number one Oregon Duck barely defeated the Cal Bears 15 – 13 and should have fallen behind in the 4th quarter had it not been for a missed easy field goal.
Oregon also got a bit of luck: Early in the fourth quarter, Cal kicker Giorgio Tavecchio erased his own 24-yard field goal, which would have put the Golden Bears ahead by one, by taking a stutter step forward before the snap. The junior then missed a 29-yard try on the next play.
Also, #3 TCU just got by San Diego State 40-35, including being behind at one point in the game 14 to 0. Everyone has drooled over the unstoppable TCU defense that did not show up on Saturday. Sorry folks, but if you are going to punish BSU for not having style points against inferior opponents, then you must do the same with the other NCAA football teams. Also, what about the TCU victory over Utah last week that all the coaches and computers were salivating over? So much for that, eh Craig James? The Utah Utes went into South Bend, Indiana this week and was throttled and embarrassed by an unranked and terrible Notre Dame Fighting Irish team 28 -3 . Sorry, but the strength of schedule for TCU had to have taken a hit along with being all that impressed with what appears to be an overrated Utes team.
Stay tuned for this weeks BCS Standings. My BCS poll would look as follows for the top 15. However, I will say this, if the craziness continues to swirl in Auburn with the Cam Newton saga and they play like they did yesterday against Alabama in the Iron Bowl, Auburn will lose and most likely lose their shot to play for a BCS National Championship.
