“Dana will always be remembered for her passion, strength and ceaseless courage that became her hallmark,” Lewis said. “Along with her husband, Christopher, she faced adversity with grace and determination, bringing hope to millions around the world.”

Kirby Puckett, 45

Kirby_puckettKirby Puckett, hero to Minnesota Twins fans passed away after a severe stroke over the weekend. Kirby was a world series hero and member of the Baseball Hall of Fame after having to retire early due to having a severe case of glaucoma. He leaves behind 2 children, Catherine and Kirby Jr.

“He was revered throughout the country and will be remembered wherever the game is played,” commissioner Bud Selig said. “Kirby was taken from us much too soon – and too quickly.”

“There are a lot of great players in this game, but only one Kirby,” pitcher Rick Aguilera said when Puckett announced his retirement. “It was his character that meant more to his teammates. He brought a great feeling to the clubhouse, the plane, everywhere.”

And this is an interesting if not a sad fact:

Indeed, Puckett was the second-youngest person to die having already been enshrined at Cooperstown, Hall of Fame spokesman Jeff Idelson said. Only Lou Gehrig, at 37, was younger. via the AP

Actor Darren McGavin Dies at 83, RIP.

Darren McGavin passed away at the age of 83 from natural causes on Saturday. Darren mcgavenWe truly have lost a great guy who has brought so much to the TV and movie industry and enjoyment to all of us over the years. His career was was endless stratching from the 1940’s to the present. BIO.

These day Darren McGavin was best known as Ralphie’s dad on the 1983 Christmas Classic, “A Christmas Story.” A continual 24 hours of this tale on Christmas Eve brought McGavin into our homes on the holidays as Mr. Parker (Ralphie’s dad) was just priceless.

He worked in profanity the way other artists might work in oils or clay. It was his true medium; a master.

Some other lines from Darren McGavin that will make us smile and think about him forever: Darren McGavin 3

He looks like a deranged Easter Bunny, He does too, he looks like a pink nightmare!

[after Mother "accidentally" breaks the Old Man's leg lamp] Why did you touch that? You were always jealous of this lamp.

However, I will always remember Darren McGaven for one of the greatest TV shows of all time, Kolchak: The Night Stalker. In the 1970′s this show had no equal and kept you on the edge of your chair. The Night Stalker was a show way before its Darren mcgaven 2time.

The concept of The Night Stalker series is of reporter Carl Kolchak, working for the Independent News Service in Chicago, encountering the unnatural. Each week he dealt with a supernatural (whether mystical, scientific, or alien) threat.

The passing of Darren McGavin really does hit home as losing one of those pieces of your childhood. To the family of Darren McGavin, our condolences. To Mr. McGavin, thanks for all the memories.

He is survived by his four children — York, Megan, Bridget and Bogart — from a previous marriage to Melanie York McGavin, Bogart McGavin said. McGavin was separated from his second wife, Kathy Brown, he said. Services were set for March 5 at Hollywood Forever Cemetery

Memorial Service for Rosa Parks in Montgomery, AL

Rosa Parks returned to Montgomery, AL “as cascades of roses covered her casket in a chapel bearing her name at St. Paul A.M.E. Church, where she was once a member”.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Hundreds of mourners, politicians and activists attended a memorial service Sunday for Rosa Parks, who inspired the civil rights movement by refusing to give up a seat on a city bus to a white man.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said that she and others who grew up in Alabama during the height of Parks’ activism might not have realized her impact on their lives, “but I can honestly say that without Mrs. Parks, I would not be standing here today as secretary of state.”
