Tornadoes Hit Mississippi & Southeast, 9 Killed & Many Injured in Yazoo City, MS

All day Saturday weather forecasters put people on notice in the Southeast of severe weather and the potential for dangerous rail, hail and tornadoes. A tornado touched down in Yazoo City, MS, about 40 miles north of Jackson that caused much damage, destruction, death and injury.

Sadly this morning officials are raising the death toll to 9, including 2-3 children.

Mississippi official say the death toll has risen to nine from a devastating tornado that flattened homes and businesses in the state. More than a dozen others have been injured.

Mississippi Emergency Management Agency spokesman Greg Flynn said five people were killed in Choctaw County, 3 in Yazoo County and 1 in Holmes County. No names have been released and details are not available.

Two of those dead in Choctaw county are children.

Gov. Haley Barbour told The Associated Press there was “utter obliteration” in parts of Yazoo County, an area where he is from. More than 15 other counties were also damaged.

Rescue workers dig through the rubble and devastation left in the path of the tornadoes that hit Mississippi on Saturday. Reports now state that there are up to 10 people dead.

The tornado struck at least 13 counties, destroying scores of homes and trapping people inside, damaging businesses, blocking highways and knocking out power to thousands, said the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency.

Five people died in Choctaw County, four in Yazoo County and one in Holmes County, said Greg Flynn, spokesman at the agency.

Governor Haley Barbour declared a state of emergency after the first major U.S. tornado of the year.

“It has done huge damage around Yazoo City,” Barbour, who grew up in the city, told CBS television.

“We have fatalities, a number of people that we’re still trying to rescue who are trapped in buildings. But it is a major, significant tornado … and it did some huge damage and perhaps some fatalities north of here,” Barbour said.

7.2 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Southern California and Mexico

A 7.2 earthquake struck northwest Mexico’s Baja California, Southern CA and  Mexico at about 3:40 p.m. Sunday. The effects  rattled all of Southern California, Los Angeles,  and San Diego and could be felt in Arizona as well.

Preliminary USGS information indicated the epicenter was 19 miles southeast of Mexicali, an area that has been rocking with magnitude 3.0 quakes all week.

There could be “significant fatalities and damage” near the epicenter, San Diego State University geologist Pat Abbott told 10News.

While no major damage has been reported on the U.S. side of the border, this could go down as the strongest earthquake to strike so close to San Diego County, topping a 7.1 that struck in Imperial County in 1940. A 6.5 shaker hit near Borrego Springs in 1968.

According to CNN,  so far there are at least two dead and 100 injured in Mexico.

At least one person was killed in a building collapse in Mexicali, Mexico, according to the assistant director of civil protection in Tijuana. The other victim died when he ran from his residence into the street and was hit by a car, said Alfredo Escobedo, Mexico’s director of civil protection.

All 100 injuries are concentrated in Mexicali, Escobedo said.

In California and Arizona, there were no immediate reports of injuries and only limited reports of damages.

Barack Obama, “We Can’t Control Nature” … Um, What about Global Warming Sir?

Are you serious? President Barack Hussein Obama while addressing the 8.8 magnitude earthquake in Chile said the following, “We can’t control nature”.

Did Barack Obama just call the entire “global warming” it’s mans fault a sham? If man cannot control nature then why is the global warming agenda crowd pushing junk science?

Words are an amazing thing aren’t they Mr. President? After all his speeches, after all his rhetoric and trips to Copenhagen to attend the Global Warming Conference, in a moment fo truth while discussing the terrible earthquake that occurred in Chile … Obama slips and speaks some reality that is obvious to so many … Man can’t control nature.

Then why are you wasting Americas time, money and threatening our economy with your green jobs nonsense and Cap & Trade? You can’t have it both ways, as much as you would like to.

But unfortunately, the reality of the danger we are courting has not been changed by the discovery of at least two mistakes in the thousands of pages of careful scientific work over the last 22 years by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. In fact, the crisis is still growing because we are continuing to dump 90 million tons of global-warming pollution every 24 hours into the atmosphere — as if it were an open sewer.

Get this, Gore admits that the science and data is flawed and has been misrepresented, but that is irrelevant. However, there is still global warming. Never mind we lied and overstated the facts, that does not matter … it’s global warming I tell you and it’s man-made, we are just going to have to trust Al on this one.

It is true that the climate panel published a flawed overestimate of the melting rate of debris-covered glaciers in the Himalayas, and used information about the Netherlands provided to it by the government, which was later found to be partly inaccurate. In addition, e-mail messages stolen from the University of East Anglia in Britain showed that scientists besieged by an onslaught of hostile, make-work demands from climate skeptics may not have adequately followed the requirements of the British freedom of information law.

Al Gore’s greatest scare tactics. What’s the matter Al, when all this is proved to be the fraud that it clearly is, will you actually have to get a job and justify what you say in a speech?

Massive 8.8 Earthquake Rocks Chile, Pacific Under Tsunami Threat

A powerful and massive 8.8 magnitude earthquake has hit Chile early Saturday morning. To date 78 people have been reported dead and the earthquake has triggered a tsunami warning for the Pacific. President Michelle Bachelet has declared a “state of catastrophe” in affected areas and appealed for calm.

The US Geological Survey said the earthquake struck 56 miles northeast of the city of Concepcion at a depth of 22 miles at 3:34 a.m. (1:34 a.m. EST). Tsunami warnings have been issued for Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, Central America and Pacific island nations.

The quake’s epicenter was located off the coast of Maule, about 200 miles southwest of Santiago. It struck at 3:34 a.m. (1:34 a.m. ET), when most people were sleeping.

Massive magnitude-8.8 earthquake struck south-central Chile

Buildings caught fire and residents huddled in streets strewn with glass and masonry, many terrified by powerful aftershocks and desperately trying to call friends and family.

President Michelle Bachelet said there were 78 confirmed deaths and that more were possible. Telephone and power lines were down, making it difficult to assess the full extent of the damage close to the epicenter.

Chile is the world’s No. 1 copper producer, and the quake halted operations at two major mines near the capital.

There have been a number of aftershocks following the earthquake measuring as high as 6.9.

UPDATE I: It is sadly being reported that 82 people are now confirmed dead.  Now 85 confirmed dead. The death toll is now confirmed at 122 and rising.

UPDATE II: Hawaii residents issued tsunami warning after massive 8.8-earthquake jolts Chile.

If a tsunami wave does hit Hawaii it is being predicted at about 4:19 EDT. It is the first time in 16 years that Hawaiian residents have been asked to evacuate coastal areas.

State officials in Hawaii have activated their emergency response plans to prepare for a possible tsunami caused by the massive earthquake in Chile, an official said Saturday.

There have been over 57 aftershocks and the death toll is now reported over over 147 people.

UPDATE III: Chile Earthquake kills more then 700

An 8.8 magnitude earthquake can be nothing more than an unthinkable nightmare. 100′s of aftershocks and sadly over 700 confirmed deceased and counting.

President Michelle Bachelet said that 708 people were confirmed dead and that the total was likely to rise.

The death toll from Saturday’s 8.8-magnitude quake had stood at 400 earlier on Sunday, before state television quoted emergency officials as saying that 350 people were killed in the coastal town of Constitucion, which was hit by a tsunami.

Venezuelan Leader Hugo Chavez Accuses United States of Causing Haiti Earthquake

As actors, actresses, singers and other celebrities come out and offer their help to aid Haiti, “Hope for Haiti Now,” in the wake of the devastating 7.0 magnitude earthquake, the Hollywood LEFT’s favorite Marxits, socialist, Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez accused the US for the  earthquake in Haiti last week.

He adds that this time it was only a drill and the final target is … destroying and taking over Iran.

According to the Venezuelan voice of sanity, the United States apparently possesses an “earthquake weapon” that set off the catastrophic quake in Haiti and killed 200,000 innocents.
