14 Year Old Abigail Hernandez Missing Since 10/9/13 in Conway, NH (Update: Teen’s Last Phone Call Tracked to Cranmore Mountain Ski Resort)

14 year old Abigail Hernandez has been missing since Wednesday, October 9, 2013 in Conway, New Hampshire. According to reports Abigail was last seen Wednesday afternoon when she left Kennett High School. She was reported missing by her mother. As per WCSH6 , police believe Abigail Hernandez that she had walked home before she disappeared as they had  deployed search dogs at her last known location at Kennett High School where the dogs followed her scent back to Abigail’s home at 86 Village Way.

Based on a police K-9 search, investigators believed Hernandez walked back to her home on Village Way before she disappeared.

She is described as Hispanic, 5’4”, 118 pounds, brown hair, brown eyes, and light olive complexion. Hernandez was last seen wearing black yoga or stretch pants and a grey sweatshirt.

UPDATE I: New Hampshire authorities step up search for missing teen.

By air, land and water, crews continue to search for a missing North Conway girl who vanished Wednesday.

Local, federal and state officers have been joined by volunteers in the search for 14-year-old Abigail Hernandez. They’re paddling local waterways, flying over the area, handing out posters at roadblocks and carefully marching in lines through the woods at the southeast corner of the White Mountains.

Four days after Abigail Hernandez vanished after school in picturesque Conway, her mother wished her missing daughter a happy 15th birthday through tears as she pleaded for information about the teen’s disappearance.

“Happy Birthday Abi,” Zenya Hernandez said in front of the Conway police headquarters where the intensive search for her daughter is being orchestrated.

Hernandez’s voice shook as she looked at a bank of reporters’ cameras and delivered a message directly to her daughter: “Please come home. We miss you so badly.

UPDATE III: Missing Teen’s Last Phone Call Tracked to Cranmore Mountain Ski Resort.

The last time the cellphone belonging to missing New Hampshire teenager Abigail Hernandez was used was on the day she disappeared and it was about two miles from her home, investigators said today.

The call was tracked to a spot near Cranmore Mountain, a ski resort near the missing girl’s Village Way home, said Major Kevin Jordan of the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department. It was the last call made from the girl’s cell phone, he said.

“In my mind, this is still a missing person’s case,” Jordan told reporters last night at a news conference outside the Conway Police headquarters.

Law enforcement sources told ABC News that Hernandez had befriended an older boy on Facebook and had a high school boyfriend. The FBI’s Rapid Child Abduction Deployment Unit is orchestrating the search efforts, which have been conducted by air, on the ground, and in the nearby Sacco River by police from multiple law enforcement agencies.

UPDATE V: Missing NH teen used cellphone after she disappeared.

The New Hampshire teenager who has been missing since last week used her cellphone in the hours after her disappearance, according to a report on MyFoxBoston.com.

Abigail Hernandez, who turned 15 on Saturday, used her phone near the Cranmore Mountain Resort, which is about two miles from her North Conway home, police said Monday. Authorities have not released specific details about the call.

16 year old Jessica Shepherd went missing in Johnstown, CO Tuesday night when she was abducted around 10:50 p.m. on Tuesday after witnesses told investigators that the teen sent messages from her cellphone and Facebook account at that time, saying she was “with a guy named Dave” and “scared.” The teen was last seen around 8 p.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of South Hayes Avenue in Johnstown.  Thankfully, Jessica Shepherd was found early Thursday morning after numerous tips sent to Johnstown police helped authorities pinpoint her location. The suspect, 38 year old David Calderon, was arrested and charged with second-degree kidnapping, false imprisonment, unlawful sexual contact, felony menacing, child abuse and third-degree assault.

Colorado authorities have arrested a man suspected in the disappearance of a 16-year-old girl who reportedly sent a distress message to friends saying she was with a man and “scared.”

Jessica Shepherd was found early Thursday morning after numerous tips sent to Johnstown police helped authorities pinpoint her location, Johnstown Police Chief Brian Phillips told KDVR. One of the tips police go was an address for a man called “Dave,” who in turn gave police a second address where they were able to successfully locate the teen.

Phillips said they found Shepherd unharmed and that “she was coherent and cooperative.”

10 year old Lyric Cook-Morrissey and 8 year old Elizabeth Collins have been missing since Friday, July 13. Their bikes, a purse and cell phones were found on a path near Meyers Lake in Evansdale, Iowa; however, the have not been sen or heard from since their disappearance. FBI investigators said on Saturday that they had evidence that leads them to believe that the two cousins were still alive. FBI spokeswoman Sandy Breault said that authorities believe that Lyric Cook-Morrissey and Elizabeth Collins have not been killed, although they did not provide any information that lead them to believe this. The FBI said that they they would be expanding their search beyond Iowa.

Investigators said Saturday they have evidence that leads them to believe two cousins who vanished last week are still alive.

FBI spokeswoman Sandy Breault said that authorities strongly believe 10-year-old Lyric Cook-Morrissey and 8-year-old Elizabeth Collins have not been killed.

She refused to say what led authorities to that conclusion, but told reporters that investigators are expanding their search beyond Iowa.

The announcement came a day after authorities said they believe the girls were abducted.

Authorities stated that they have not received total cooperation from all family and close friends. Lyric’s parents, Misty and Dan Morrissey, have hired an attorney, are taking legal advice, and will no longer allow police to interrogate them. Is it possible that the couples past drug involvement had something to do with the girl’s disappearance?

Law enforcement officials who have spent the past nine days searching for a pair of missing cousins in Iowa say some family members are not being completely cooperative and are now under close scrutiny.

“Law enforcement has not received total cooperation from all family and close friends. We feel there’s someone out there that has pertinent information about the girls’ whereabouts,” FBI spokeswoman Sandy Breault said.

8 year old Elizabeth Collins and her 10 year old cousin Lyric Cook-Morrissey have been missing since Friday, July 13, 2012 in Evansdale, Iowa. Elizabeth and Lyric were last seen a little after noon on Friday in downtown Evansdale. The two girls bikes were located along a trail on the southeast corner of Meyers Lake. The girls never returned home and investigators say they have found no other traces of the missing girls. After the girls bikes and bags were found abandoned, the mother of one of the missing girls stated that she thought they were abducted.

Just a few hours after the girls left, investigators found the girls bikes, and a bag they had with them, near the southeast side of Meyers Lake.

Officials drug the river Friday before it turned dark. “We will keep searching until we are confident that they are not in that lake, ” said Captain Rick Abben, a Chief Deputy with the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office. A helicopter also patrolled overhead, looking for the pair. Abben said people searched the area until 3 in the morning.

By Saturday afternoon, several different local and state law enforcement agencies and search groups were involved along with the FBI and National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Officials searched nearby homes and yards, extending their search to the entire City of Evansdale, towards Deer Wood Park and other parts of Black Hawk County.

The search continues for missing Elizabeth Collins and Lyric Cook.

Thirty-three hours after two preteen cousins were last seen in northeast Iowa, authorities said late Saturday that the girls’ bicycles were the only sign of them discovered so far.

More than 400 volunteers helped comb wooded areas near Meyers Lake in Evansdale east of Waterloo throughout daylight hours on Saturday, but they didn’t find Elizabeth Collins, 8, and Lyric Cook-Morrissey, 10.

UPDATE II: Evansdale police chief Kent Smock says his department is treating the case as “a suspicious disappearance” — meaning abduction is a possibility.

Smock says Collins and Morrisey were last seen riding bicycles near Evansdale’s downtown area around 12:30 Friday afternoon. Their bicycles were later found along a nature trail next to a lake in a residential area that’s about a mile from where the girls were last known to be. Police and firefighters from Waterloo and several nearby communities — along with Black Hawk County sheriff’s deputies and the Iowa State Patrol – joined Evansdale authorities and dozens of volunteers in the search, which extended about four miles.

With the aid of an Iowa State Patrol airplane, a privately-owned helicopter and boats, searchers dragged the lake and scanned the surrounding woods, a nearby creek and a city campground, but found no traces of the girls on Friday. Darkness forced authorities to call off their search after about five hours, but volunteers continued their efforts overnight.

UPDATE IV: Crime blogger Blink from Blink on Crime provides analysis of the the missing persons case and comments on the area where the girls were last known to be seen. The area that might need to be searched is that where they were last seen, rather than the area where the bikes, backpacks and cell phones were found.

1. The area where they were last seen on their bikes is next to a safety shoe ( think workboot) store, and adjacent to the rear or parking area of a bar at lunchtime on a Friday and likely a payday.  Lefty’s Lounge is also a truck stop.  This location is just a few blocks from the Grandmother’s residence and some areas of it can be seen from the home if one was standing outside.   The residence also appears to be the office of Planetary Tree Services, unclear if employees report directly for the day’s jobs but the map reflects what could be utility trucks used for tree cutting.   It is not uncommon for some day laborors

2. The girls bikes and bag/cell phone are located together, in an area approximately 2 miles from the area where they were last seen.   Their are no bike trails on the roadway and only heavy traffic “highway” leading straight to the lake,  alternative routes through the neighborhood are possible,  but then they likely would have been seen. Suspect Adam Mayes Added to FBI’s 10 Most Wanted Fugitives List … Charged with Murder of Jo Ann Bain & Adrienne Bain … 12 year old Alexandria Bain & 8 Year Old Kyliyah Bain Still Missing

Charges escalate from “especially aggravated kidnapping” to “first degree murder” …

Suspect Adam Christopher Mayes, wanted in the disappearance and kidnapping of 12 year old Alexandria Bain and her 8 year old Kyliyah Bain has been added to the FBI’s 10 Most Wanted Fugitive List.  The FBI has also added $100,000 to the reward fund offered for a break in the case. Adam Hayes has also just been charged with two counts of first degree murder in the death of Tennessee mom Jo Ann Bain and her 14 year old daughter Adrienne Bain. Adam’s wife, Teresa Mayes has also been charged with two counts of first degree murder. Previously, Teresa Mayes had been charged with especially aggravated kidnapping.

In an affidavit, Teresa Mayes said she was there when Adam Mayes killed Jo Ann Bain in a  garage next to their home and that Adam Mayes also killed 14-year-old Adrienne Bain at that location.

Teresa Mayes also said her husband planned to kidnap Alexandria and Kyliyah.

Adam Mayes’ mother Mary is charged with four counts of Conspiracy To Commit Especially Aggravated Kidnapping.

The FBI added the suspect, Adam Mayes, to its list of 10 most wanted fugitives and added $100,000 to the reward fund offered for a break in the case. Mayes has been charged with killing Jo Ann Bain and her eldest daughter, Adrienne, in late April, but authorities believe he is still holding Bain’s younger daughters, 12-year-old Alexandria and 8-year-old Kyliyah.

“From an investigative standpoint, we keenly and firmly believe that Adam Mayes is out here somewhere with these two young children,” said Mark Gwyn, director of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. “And it’s going to be up to the public to help us if we’re to bring these children back home and place him in custody where he needs to be.”

As stated at Blink on Crime, “Adam Mayes believes Alexandria and Kyliyah are HIS DAUGHTERS and they were set to move to Arizona.” This can explain why only the mother and eldest daughter were killed and the two youngest are still believed to be alive as per the FBI.

Mayes’ mother-in-law told The Associated Press that Mayes thought he might be the girls’ father and it caused trouble in the marriage to her daughter, who’s jailed in the case.

VIDEO interview below with the sister of Tersa Bain, Bobbi Booth, who spoke to CNN’s Anderson Cooper on Tuesday about Adam Mayes and his relationship with her sister, who she said has mental health problems.

“I’ve known Adam for at least 25 years, and he’s always been weird and unusual … but I never dreamed he would do something like this,” she said.

She described him as aggressive and not trustworthy. He beat and threatened to kill her sister, said Booth, who pleaded with him to “do the right thing.”
