A search team of hundreds is combing the area around a Genesee County park, looking for a 9-year old boy who disappeared on Independence Day.

An AMBER Alert is in effect for Omarion Humphrey — who goes by the nickname “Mars.” The boy — who is severely autistic and does not talk — was last seen at the Callis Lake Recreational Complex, off North Gale Road between Davison Road and Court Street in Davison Township, at around 6 p.m. Saturday.

Davison Township Police Chief Rick Freeman says the search is covering a wide surrounding area.

Police say Omarion is about 4-feet tall and 70 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He was wearing only black shorts with a thin, red stripe — no shirt and no shoes.

UPDATE I: The search continues for missing 9 year old Omarion Humphrey.

“We’re continuing to look for Omarion,” he said. “I said yesterday, I’ll say it again today, we’re going to find him. It’s just a matter of time.”

“But to say how long this is going to take, I just cannot give you that answer.”

Areas are being searched and re-searched, Freeman said. Horses from the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office Mounted Division were brought in to help Monday. The Genesee County and Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office dive teams have searched the lake multiple times, with no sign of Omarion.

Omarion was spotted on surveillance cameras at the park about 5 p.m. Saturday, July 4, and seen playing near the splash pad, but that was the last sighting. Omarion stands 4 feet tall, weighs 70 pounds and was last seen wearing no shirt, no shoes and black shorts with a red stripe.

When asked if abduction was ruled out, Freeman said, “I haven’t ruled out anything. We’re going into this with an open mind, as we do any investigation.” He did state Sunday there were no signs of abduction.

“It would be negligent on our part to rule out anything at this point,” he said. Police have followed up on tips they’ve received, including some about footprints and clothing, but nothing has panned out at this point in time.

Anyone who may have seen this missing child is asked to immediately call 911 or the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office at 810-732-4720.

UPDATE II: Missing boy found dead in lake.

The state is investigating the Burton agency that oversaw the foster home where Omarion Humphrey was placed, trying to determine if the 9-year-old autistic boy was properly cared for and supervised before his disappearance at a park.

Omarion’s body was found in the lake Friday, July 10, after having been brought to the park by his foster mother, who lost track of the boy during the outing.

Melendez said the fatalities include two adults and one child. He said a child is also considered to be among the missing.

UPDATE I: Search resumes, crews search for 3 missing in Ohio River.

He said the current of the Ohio River was too swift to send dive teams into the water, leaving crews left to search for the missing on the surface of the water.

“The water is very rapid. We’re unable to put divers in the water due to the current. So we are continuing a search on the surface only using the air unit and things of that nature,” said Louisville Fire Chief Greg Frederick.

The first call to dispatchers came in around 9:28 p.m. as thousands gathered along Waterfront Park for the 4th of July festivities.

A helicopter could be seen above the bridge searching for the missing people just before the fireworks started Saturday evening.

Rescue teams resumed their search at 9 a.m. Sunday with officials locating debris near a New Albany boat ramp.

Missing Maricopa, Arizona Couple, 44 Year Old Michael Careccia & 42 Year Old Tina Careccia, Bodies Found … Jose Valenzuela Arrested & Charged with First Degree Murder

The bodies of missing 44 year old Michael Careccia and his wife, 42 year old Tina Careccia have been found in Maricopa, Arizona. The bodies were found on the property of 38 year old Jose Valenzuela in a 6 foot grave. Valenzuela reportedly confessed to the crime and has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder. He is being held on a $2 million cash bond.  Valenzuela reportedly shot the victims with a .22 caliber handgun. Valenzuela claims that he and the couple have been acquainted for the past two years and used methamphetamine together.  Michael Careccia and Tina Careccia went missing on 6/22/15. Investigators said Valenzuela brought meth to the couple’s home the day before they went missing, Father’s Day. Then they went to Valenzuela’s home later that day and Valenzuela brandished a weapon during a fight. Of course this is the comments of a man facing two counts of first degree murder. A toxicology will have to be done to confirm any of his comments.

A missing Phoenix-area couple were killed and buried in the yard of a man who told investigators he was high on methamphetamine at the time, authorities said Thursday.

Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu said Jose Valenzuela, 38, acknowledged killing Michael Careccia, 44, and his wife, Tina, 42.

“Essentially he confessed,” Babeu said at a news conference.

Valenzuela has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder. He is being held on a $2 million cash bond.

According to Babeu, Valenzuela was found with a .22 caliber revolver that authorities believe is the murder weapon.

Two bodies were recovered from Valenzuela’s property and identified as the couple, authorities said. The grave was not noticeable initially because the suspect had piled other debris and materials on top of it, Babeu added.

Jose Valenzuela claims a fight broke out after he had provided drugs to the couple. Read the story and see if it makes any sense or was Jose on meth at the time he confessed to authorities?

Valenzuela claimed he brought Michael and Tina Careccia the drug on June 21 and attended a Father’s Day party at the Carrecias’ home, Babeu said.

“Sometime later that evening … they went over to Valenzuela’s home, and something happened, a fight ensued and that’s when he brandished a weapon,” Babeu told reporters.

Valenzuela allegedly used a .22-caliber revolver to kill the couple. He shot Michael Careccia first, and then shot Tina Careccia sometime later, Babeu said. Investigators believe Valenzuela was high on drugs at the time of the killings.

The bodies were kept on the property, possibly in a shed, until Valenzuela borrowed a backhoe from an acquaintance and buried them in a six-foot deep grave, and their car was moved to a location away from the home, Babeu said.

UPDATE I: Search continues for missing Pinal County couple.

Volunteer search teams have spent several days looking for the couple in a remote area outside Maricopa.

“The response was amazing. We really didn’t know what to expect coming into this. We kind of threw it all together, reached out here and to get over 100 people to come out and search is absolutely amazing,” Alexis Kroll, one of the search organizers, said.

“It’s just been amazing,” said another family friend, Francesca Lever. ” Last night we had over 150 people come out and just join the search; we expect the same amount today.”

Family, friends and even complete strangers have canvassed the area in jeeps, quads, dirt bikes and trucks.

“We are kind of focusing more on the canals and the remote areas that really we had a hard time with the lighting last night,” Kroll said.

Some volunteers, like Larry Meyer, don’t even know the couple. “If you have the ability you go out and you look for people. You do whatever it takes to help your neighbor out ,” he said. “Just trying to help. I know there are a lot of other people out doing the same thing so we’re just trying to bring these people home safe.”

Investigators asked anyone with information to contact sheriff’s detectives at 520-866-5111.

61 year old  Walter Scheib has been missing since Saturday, June 13, 2015 in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of New Mexico. Scheib was last seen setting out for a hike over the weekend alone on the Yerba Canyon Trail. The local police have found only his vehicle, which was parked at the Yerba Canyon Trail Head in Taos, NM, a town some 70 miles from Santa Fe. Nearly 30 searchers, including teams with dogs and horses, have fanned out across the trails in the area, scouring for any sign of the missing Walter Scheib.

Former White House executive chef Walter Scheib has been reported missing in New Mexico’s rugged Sangre de Cristo Mountains, where he was last seen setting out for a hike over the weekend, police said. For days since, search and rescue teams have been scouring the area to find him.

Scheib has been missing since Saturday. Local police have found only his vehicle, which was parked at the Yerba Canyon Trail Head in Taos, N.M., a town some 70 miles from Santa Fe.

Scheib, 61, earned his reputation in Washington for his New American-style cuisine, cooking for, among others, White House guests Nelson Mandela, Boris Yeltsin, Princess Diana and then-British Prime Minister Tony Blair. He served for 11 years under President Bill Clinton and President George W. Bush.

Crews will resume Scheib’s search and rescue mission Friday morning both on the ground and in the air, New Mexico State Police spokeswoman Sgt. Liz Armijo told The Washington Post. Authorities have been working with search and rescue dogs and using helicopters to view areas too rough and remote to reach on foot.

UPDATE I: Walter Scheib found dead in New Mexico.

The Taos News reported that Scheib’s body was found in a river approximately 20 to 30 feet off a hiking trail in the mountains above the Taos Ski Valley. The New Mexico State Police said the spot where the body was found was approximately 1.7 miles from the Yerba Canyon trail head where Scheib’s car was located.

Authorities said that they did not believe Scheib had not informed anyone of his hiking plans and was not believed to have been prepared for more than a day outdoors. Scheib had recently moved from Florida to New Mexico, and reportedly went for a hike June 13. His girlfriend reported him missing the next day. The 4-mile Yerba Canyon trail follows a canyon bottom before climbing to 3,700 feet in elevation, according to the U.S. Forest Service website.
