75 year old US military vet James Vernon saves that day as he fought off a crazed knife wielding lunatic, 19 year old Dustin Brown, and saved 16 children at a public library in Illinois. James Vernon was teaching a chess class with 16 children at Morton Public Library when authorities say 19-year-old Dustin Brown entered the room with two knives. That is when the 75 year old vet took action. Vernon suffered “two cut arteries and a tendon” while defending the kids and credited his knife-fighting skills he learned in the US Army for allowing him to delay Brown enough to get the kids to safety. According to a court affidavit, Dustin Brown told police afterward that he “failed in his mission to kill everyone.” Thanks to the efforts of hero James Vernon. Brown was ordered held on $800,000 bond pending a November 5 court appearance on charges of attempted murder, armed violence, aggravated battery to a person over age 60 and burglary for entering the library with intent to commit a crime. This POS is also due in court Monday, Oct 22 on child pornography charges filed against him in March.

Sixteen children and a handful of their mothers found the only door to their library room blocked by a man who held hunting knives in each hand as he screamed, “I’m going to kill some people!”

Dustin Brown, 19, specifically wanted to kill children Tuesday at Morton Public Library, he said after the would-be victims escaped safely.

Had he brought a firearm instead, “It would’ve been a different story,” James Vernon said Thursday.

Blood was shed, but mostly Vernon’s, because the retired chess club teacher kept his cool, gave his class an avenue of flight and remembered the knife-fight training the Army gave him five decades ago.

Vernon, 75, won his “90 seconds of combat” with Brown, “but I felt like I lost the war,” he chuckled. He cut two arteries and a tendon on Vernon’s left hand as Vernon blocked Brown’s knife swipe.

“I failed my mission to kill everyone,” Brown told police, according to a prosecutor’s court affidavit that accompanied formal charges Thursday that included attempted murder.

We have lost so many brave souls to not only protect our Freedoms, but the freedoms of others from tyranny.  On this day we remember that Freedom is never Free and all those that gave all in their service and sacrifice to us.

Remarks at Memorial Day Ceremonies Honoring an Unknown Serviceman of the Vietnam Conflict – 5/28/84

I can remember like it was yesterday, but in fact it was more than 25 years ago, when I stood in Arlington National Cemetery for the funeral of my Uncle and namesake. I can remember the sound of Taps and the 21 gun salute as tears flowed down my face as I laid to rest my hero. A man that gave so much for his country and for me. A man who was the toughest and most honorable, proud and yet humble man I have ever known. By all accounts he should have died in the Ardennes forest during WWII, but God had other plans. However, in many respects he did lose all as he came home forever changed. My uncle volunteered for WWII at age 18, although, when I review the records he was actually 17. He, like 5 of his brothers, took part in WWII. However, my Uncle Red saw the most action in Patton’s 3rd Army. Much of what he witnessed, he took to his grave as he lost so many Brothers in Arms. When he came home some 4 years later after having defeated the Nazis, his own mom, my grandmother, did not recognize him.

As always and on a personal note I say thank you and you are missed to my uncle Red who is buried in Arlington National Cemetery. My uncle served in Patton’s 3rd Army where he received the following medals. a silver star. bronze star and multiple purple hearts.  So often he did not want to talk of what went on during his military server and his heroic efforts during WWII; however, true heroes are also humble. It was not until much later when I was in college and became a history major with a specialty in US military warfare and tactics did my uncle open up and provide me with the truth of what he experienced during his military days, some of that time spent in the Ardennes , better know as the Battle of the Bulge.

Non-Profit Homes for Our Troops Gave Home to “Permanently Paralyzed” Vet Army Specialist Justin Perez-Gorda … Now Must Weigh Options as it Appears to Have been a Fraud

STOLEN VALOR HOME Was this a con from the outset by this couple to get a new home bought and paid for?

Homes for Our Troops, a non-profit organization, provided military veteran Army Specialist Justin Perez-Gorda a home free of charge to account for his handicap and paralysis; however, something fishy appears to be going on … within weeks after Justin Perez-Gorda and his wife moved into the home, he was walking. Miracle or fraud? I will opt for the latter. When confronted by the media of his miraculous recovery, Justin Perez-Gorda told the reporter to get off his property.  The non-profit, Homes for Our Troops said the organization is thinking about its next steps and has to weigh their options. One of them might be trying to take back the home.

The man suffered a brain injury in Afghanistan in 2011, but for years he and his wife claimed that he was paralyzed form the waist down.

“He has permanent loss of use of both lower extremities. He’s paralyzed from the belly button down,” Josephine Perez-Gorda said in a Homes for Our Troops promotional video.

But, soon after the couple moved into the house specially designed for a handicapped individual, neighbors noticed something odd: Perez-Gorda could walk. Those who spoke to WTSP said the couple became angry when asked about his condition.

Army Specialist Justin Perez-Gorda suffered a traumatic brain injury while serving in Afghanistan in January 2011.

For years, he and his wife claimed publicly he was paralyzed from the belly button down.

“He has permanent loss of use of both lower extremities. He’s paralyzed from the belly button down,” Josephine Perez-Gorda said during a taped video segment later used by Homes for Our Troops for fundraising efforts.

Homes for Our Troops (HFOT) is a privately funded 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization building specially adapted, mortgage-free homes nationwide for the most severely injured Veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan.

If this is a fraud, which it really appears to be, it is disgusting. With so many soldiers returning from war in Iraq and Afghanistan that are truly needing of such homes, for one of their own to perpetrate such a con is just unconscionable. There is no doubt that Army Specialist Justin Perez-Gorda suffered some type of injury, but it was nothing like what was embellished. Watch the promotional VIDEO below from Homes for Our Troops and you can plainly hear Justin’s wife, Josephine Perez-Gorda, say at the 1:35 minute mark that he has permanent loss of the use of both lower extremities and that he was paralyzed from the belly-button down. Hmm, that is a far cry from the VIDEO above where Justin can be seen walking and carrying wood.

US Delta Force Commandos Kill ISIS Commander Abu Sayyaf in Syrian Raid

The AP is reporting that US Army commandos from Delta Force have killed ISIS commander, Abu Sayyaf, in a Syrian raid. During the raid, deep into Syria, the commandos not only killed Abu Sayyaf, but also captuared his wife, Umm Sayyaf, who is being questioned in U.S. custody.  As stated at Hot Air, “Sayyaf was a top money guy for the terrorists, in charge of trafficking their oil and gas on the black market along with who knows what other revenue sources they rely on to fund their fighters and keep their operation running.”

Isn’t it amazing what happens when the US military is allowed to act like the elite fighting force that it is and is allowed to take the terrorist out.

In a rare ground attack deep into Syria, U.S. Army commandos killed a man described as the Islamic State’s head of oil operations, captured his wife and rescued a woman whom American officials said was enslaved.

A team of Delta Force commandos slipped across the border from Iraq under cover of darkness Saturday aboard Black Hawk helicopters and V-22 Osprey aircraft, according to a U.S. defense official knowledgeable about details of the raid. The official was not authorized to discuss the operation publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity.

The Americans intended to capture a militant identified by U.S. officials as Abu Sayyaf. When they arrived at his location, a multi-story building, they met stiff resistance, the U.S. official said, and a firefight ensued, resulting in bullet-hole damage to the U.S. aircraft.

Abu Sayyaf was killed, along with an estimated dozen IS fighters, U.S. officials said. No American was killed or wounded.

Before the sun had risen, the commandos flew back to Iraq where Abu Sayyaf’s wife, Umm Sayyaf, was being questioned in U.S. custody, officials said.

The ISIS commander, Abu Sayyaf, was killed in a heavy firefight after he resisted capture in the raid at al-Omar, U.S. Secretary of Defense Ash Carter said in a statement.

Sayyaf’s wife, an Iraqi named Umm Sayyaf, was caught and is being held in Iraq.

The ground operation was led by the Army’s Delta Force, sources familiar with the mission told CNN. There were about two dozen members of Delta Force involved, sources said. They were part of a multi-branch force of about 100, the sources told CNN’s Barbara Starr.

“Abu Sayyaf was a senior ISIL leader who, among other things, had a senior role in overseeing ISIL’s illicit oil and gas operations — a key source of revenue that enables the terrorist organization to carry out their brutal tactics and oppress thousands of innocent civilians,” she said in a statement.

“He was also involved with the group’s military operations.”

Abu Sayyaf was a Tunisian citizen, a senior administration official said.

A U.S. official with direct knowledge of the intelligence and the ground operation described Sayyaf as “CFO of all of ISIS with expertise in oil and gas” who played a increasing role in operations, planning and communications.

“White Privilege” Taught at Diversity Training to Army Soldiers at Fort Gordon, GA

HOW DOES SOMETHING THIS GET BY ALL THE ARMY SCREENING AND SHOWN IN A TRAINING EXERCISE?

During a training exercise at Fort Gordon in Georgia about 400 soldiers of the 67th Signal Battalion where shown a slide that depicted “white privilege” titled “The Luxury of Obliviousness”. REALLY? The slide read, “Race privilege gives whites little reason to pay a lot of attention to African Americans or to how white privilege affects them. To be white in America means not having to think about it.” ARE YOU KIDDING ME? What’s next, the Army soldiers sitting in a circle and singing kumbaya? According to Capt. Lindsay Roman, an Army spokeswoman, the presentation was not authorized, nor was it part of the standard slides shown to soldiers. So then how did it get by the screening process? Things like this just don’t happen, especially in the military.

The Equal Opportunity briefing took place Thursday for about 400 soldiers of the 67th Signal Battalion, Capt. Lindsay Roman, an Army spokeswoman, said Friday. The slide titled “The Luxury of Obliviousness” has bullet-point items about “white privilege.”

One item reads, “Race privilege gives whites little reason to pay a lot of attention to African Americans or to how white privilege affects them. ‘To be white in America means not having to think about it.’ “

An image of the slide appeared later Thursday on a Facebook page and generated a torrent of negative comments about political correctness run amok.
