AP-GfK Poll: What a Sad Commentary of Today’s Society, Two-Thirds Say People Can’t Be Trusted … #You Lie

When did “Trust” become a 4-letter word … Who will be the role models?

As the AP article says, ‘In God we trust, maybe, but not each other’. How sad. What a sad commentary on where our society has gone where Americans don’t trust each other anymore. It is one thing to have blind trust and rose colored glasses, it is quite another to have trust be remain skeptical and always question. However, the trust trends, or lack thereof have rose dramatically in the last 40 years. I think it is no surprise that it would be based on the Watergate years. But what has changed in that respect where people would think at the very least that their President could set the image of trust. But that is certainly not the case today as Americans found out that Barack Obama was lying when he told “We the People” that if you liked your healthcare plan, you could keep your healthcare plan, PERIOD! That coupled with all to many scandals like IRS-gate, AP-gate, Fast & Furious, Benghazi-gate, NSA-gate, Rosen-gate, etc. How could people really trust when they see all of these lies going on around them?

But it is larger than just politics. We need something to reverse the trend so that individuals want to trust others.

TRUST

These days, only one-third of Americans say most people can be trusted. Half felt that way in 1972, when the General Social Survey first asked the question.

Forty years later, a record high of nearly two-thirds say “you can’t be too careful” in dealing with people.

An AP-GfK poll conducted last month found that Americans are suspicious of each other in everyday encounters. Less than one-third expressed a lot of trust in clerks who swipe their credit cards, drivers on the road, or people they meet when traveling.

“I’m leery of everybody,” said Bart Murawski, 27, of Albany, N.Y. “Caution is always a factor.”

Does it matter that Americans are suspicious of one another? Yes, say worried political and social scientists.

What’s known as “social trust” brings good things.

A society where it’s easier to compromise or make a deal. Where people are willing to work with those who are different from them for the common good. Where trust appears to promote economic growth.

Trust has to be earned, it does not grow on trees. And once trust is broken, it takes years, sometimes forever to repair. So, is it too late to reverse this trend? Some say that it is. Is it possible to go back to a simpler time and instill not only trust, but values in people to act accordingly? The question really is, who will step up and play the adult to make “TRUST” a valued principle?

In fact, some studies suggest it’s too late for most Americans alive today to become more trusting. That research says the basis for a person’s lifetime trust levels is set by his or her mid-twenties and unlikely to change, other than in some unifying crucible such as a world war.

People do get a little more trusting as they age. But beginning with the baby boomers, each generation has started off adulthood less trusting than those who came before them.

The best hope for creating a more trusting nation may be figuring out how to inspire today’s youth, perhaps united by their high-tech gadgets, to trust the way previous generations did in simpler times.

There are still trusters around to set an example.

Paul Walker2

OMG … TMZ is reporting that Paul Walker, the actor best known for his role as Brian O’Conner in “The Fast and the Furious” movies has died this afternoon in a single car crash. Say it isn’t so. Walker was just 40 years old. Hmm, but I do not see this updated on  IMDb. The actor born on  on September 12, 1973, in Glendale California is also known for his other roles in my favorites, as Lance Harbor in ‘Varsity Blues’, Lewis Thomas in ‘Joy Ride’ and ‘Into the Blue’ with Jessica Alba. Damn, that is just too bad. Even though the movies were never meant for my demographic, I was a huge Fast and Furious fan.

The red Porsche was reduced to unrecognizable twisted metal in the single-car crash.

Sheriff’s Department officials did not confirm that the actor was killed in the crash, saying the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office would determine the victims’ identities and causes of death. The coroner’s office could not be reached for comment late Saturday.

Spectators gathered at the scene, and several said the passenger was the star of “The Fast and the Furious” series of films. One witness at the scene said he tried to put the fire out and recognized Walker inside the vehicle.

“Him and his buddy, his brother in arms at heart just decided to joyride, take a spin. Something we all do. We’re all car enthusiasts. … We’re all here driving, enjoying each other, and God must’ve needed help,” said Antonio Holmes, who said he was a friend of Walker.

WOW … #4 Auburn Stuns #1 Alabama 34-28 on Last Play of Game as ‘Second’ Miracle at Jordan Hare Happens in Two Weeks (VIDEO) .. Twitter Erupts!!!

THE GREATEST IRON BOWL EVER … TIGERS WIN, TIGERS WIN, TIGERS WIN … WAR EAGLE!!!

It was an Iron Bowl for the ages, the #4 Auburn Tigers stunned #1 Alabama  34-28 on the final play of the game. The Crimson Tide tried a 56 yard field goal with 1 second left on the clock to win the game when another miracle happened on The Plains. The FG was short and the Auburn Tigers’ Chris Davis ran the ball back 109 yards for a game winning touch down. The irony of it all was that Alabama coach Nick Saban lobbied for an extra second to be put on the clock to attempt the long FG. Then they set up for the game winning field goal and the rest is Iron Bowl lore.

Auburn

The Auburn Tigers will head to Atlanta, GA and play for the SEC Championship.

Chris Davis returned a missed field-goal attempt more than 100 yards for a touchdown on the final play to lift No. 4 Auburn to a 34-28 victory over No. 1 Alabama on Saturday, upending the two-time defending national champions’ BCS hopes and preserving the Tigers’ own.

Davis caught the ball about 9 yards deep in the end zone after freshman Adam Griffith’s 57-yard attempt fell short. He then sprinted down the left sideline and cut back with nothing but teammates around him in a second straight hard-to-fathom finish for the Tigers (11-1, 7-1 Southeastern Conference).

This is why we love college football!!!

Auburn Tiger fans rush Jordan Hare Field after the stunning War Eagle victory!!!

DESTINY BEATS DYNASTY!!!

Last week it was the “Prayer at Jordan Hare” as the hail Mary pass was tipped by two Georgia defenders on a 4th and 18 play into the hands of Auburn WR Ricardo Louis for a game winning TD! This week it was even more improbable as the game seemed all bust lost after Bama scored on a 99 yard TD pass.

The play of the year in college football … Auburn’s Chris Davis runs back the missed Bama FG 100 yards for a game winning Iron Bowl TD!!!

Check out the Bleacher Report for more from the game of the year.

UPDATE I:  I nesver thought it was possible, but Nick Saban got out-coached. On a personal note, I have never really questioned Nick Saban’s coaching as he is one of the best in the business, but today he seemed off his game. However, he went for it on 4th down when he was at about the Auburn 20 yard line in the center of the field and failed. Even though his kicker had already missed two FG’s, he really should have kicked it there and tried to go up by 10 points. Then on the last play of the game, no what in hell I would have attempted a 56 yard FG with a red-shirt freshman kicker who had only tried 2 all year. Sabin does realize that ‘Facing the Giants’ was a movie and the last second FG kick by David of 51 yards was a movie as well, right? I am not sure how Saban left his chances of winning a third consecutive BCS Championship to a freshman kicker, rather than his senior QB AJ McCarron in OT.

UNREAL … HHS Sec. Sebelius Admits to Senate Panel that Obamacare Navigators Don’t Need Criminal Background Checks … A Convicted Felon Could be a Navigator

ARE YOU KIDDING ME … THIS SHOULD BE CONSIDERED A CRIME AGAINST THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.

The Obamacare “Navigators,” the very people who Americans give their person information to and are supposed to help navigate individuals through Obamacare are not required under federal guidelines are not required to undergo criminal background checks. How on earth could the government open Americans up to such identity theft and fraud? Isn’t there enough fraud in healthcare without Obama and his minions opening up more individuals to more?  How could this possibly be considered HIPAA compliant?

HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius admits in a Senate hearing on Obamacare that a felon could be a navigator. And you think the worst part of Obamacare is the website. It would appear your biggest problems may occur once you log on. Good grief, is there any aspect of Obama care that is worth a damn! How could anything this poorly constructed ever get out of the planing stage of project management?

From The Weekly Standard:

“So I want to ask you about the navigators,” said Senator John Cornyn at a hearing today on Capitol Hill. “The president is in Dallas, Texas today, touting the navigator program, which, as you know, are people who are hired to help people navigate the Affordable Care Act. But I would just like to ask you this question, if you would answer it: Isn’t it true that there is no federal requirement for navigators to undergo a criminal background check, even though they will receive personal — sensitive personal — information from the individuals they help to sign-up for the Affordable Care Act?”

“That is true,” said Sebelius. “States could add an additional background checks and other features, but it is not part of the federal requirement”

“So a convicted felon could be a navigator and could acquire sensitive personal information from an individual unbeknownst to them?”

“That is possible,” said Sebelius.

This must be a part of Obama’s felon jobs program.
