Inside police found explosive devices. Highway 1-76 near Goose Creek has since been shut down. WIS News 10 talked to an FBI spokesperson who told us she could neither confirm or deny a possible link between the vehicle and a terrorist plot.
UPDATE I: This May have been a foiled jail break
UPDATE II: From Lt Vince Lombardo at the scene:
According to Lt. Vince Lombardo, deputies discovered the suspicious items in the trunk during a traffic stop. Deputies stopped two men in a four-door sedan for speeding. The car had Florida tags. The two men inside the vehicle are detained at the scene. Lombardo also said information from an investigation in another jurisdiction raised the suspicions of the deputies.
Lombard would not say what the device was or what it was that bomb technicians from neighboring Charleston County exploded at about 2:45 a.m. Sunday. (USA Today)
UPDATE III: From Pal2pal, Fox News is reporting that the two suspects are in custody for unlawful possession of an explosive device

UPDATE IV: Two people in custody said to be of Middle Eastern decent
As Cold Fury is reporting, those MSM that are even bothering to report this story seem to be leaving out the “Middle Eastern” part.
Lombard says the car was heading west on U.S. Highway 176, away from Goose Creek and the Naval Weapons Station there. A mile-long stretch of the highway was reopened about 4 Sunday morning.
Nancy Pelosi: Surge, What Troop Surge? Oh, That Troop Surge … It Failed
Pelosi: “Surge” Has Failed, Really? Petraeus Report Doesn’t Matter
(Vanderbilt – ‘07)
Could Democrats Face Iraq Backlash?
As reports come in suggesting the “surge” is producing some military but not political results, some conservatives are raising the possibility that Democrats will face a backlash from the voters for their staunch opposition to the Iraq war. Those hopes could be bolstered by a report in the Wall Street Journal’s “Washington Wire” column, which notes that by “50%-45%, Americans express confidence the U.S. commander in Iraq,” Gen. David Petraeus, “will provide an objective assessment of situation on the ground. By 36%-13%, public holds positive rather than negative view of Petraeus. Proportion saying the troop ‘surge’ is helping grows to 29% from 24% in April.”
Pelosi: Petraeus Report Doesn’t Matter
Jane Harman, a hawkish…” well, for a Democrat, a hawk, “… California Democrat and chairman of the Homeland Security intelligence subcommittee, ‘The military victories are just episodic.’ Rep. Charlie Wilson, a freshman Democrat from a conservative blue-collar Ohio district, said he ‘would definitely need monumental proof, not just an isolated improvement.’ The remarks echo the opinion of Speaker Nancy Pelosi, California Democrat, who aides say is ‘not willing to concede there are positive things to point to’ in Iraq.”

UPDATE I: Transcript: Secretary of State Rice on ‘FNS’ – August 5, 2007
WALLACE: All of Washington is waiting for the progress report that comes in mid-September from General Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker.
From what you’ve seen so far, how is the surge going and does it justify keeping more troops in Iraq into 2008?
RICE: Well, the president will get this report and then we will be able to chart a coherent way forward, but I think that there are many very good elements here.
Clearly, the security situation with American forces working closely with Iraqi forces has improved some.
Clearly, the situation in Anbar, which just a little while ago was considered the epicenter of Al Qaeda’s activities, has really turned, and there we’re working with locals.
Clearly, too, we have a lot of work to do on the political side. But, Chris, I would not underestimate the importance of the continuing work of the leaders of these very powerful parties in Iraq working through the presidency council, with the prime minister, to try to forge a compromise on some of these very essential elements.
So I think there are some very good elements. There are clearly some — there’s a lot more work to do, but we will see what General Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker report.
But obviously, the president is looking to chart a way that is coherent, a way that stabilizes Iraq, and a way that exercises our obligations to the region to leave the region more stable with a stable Iraq at its center.

Sean Penn Gets the Kiss of Death, Praise from Socialist Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez … Better than an Oscar for Socialist Actor
Sean Penn once again proving that the movie, Team America, World Police, was spot on in its assessment of Hollywood and Mr. Penn. Sean Penn goes to Venezuela to see how the other half live and gets praise from Venezuelan Dictator, I mean President Hugo Chavez. So Penn walks around the slums of Venezuela and some how Chavez is a benevolent leader.
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has praised Sean Penn for his critical stance against the war in Iraq, saying the two chatted by phone and soon plan to meet in person.
Chavez said Penn traveled to Venezuela this week wanting to learn more about the situation in the country and walked around some of Caracas’ poor barrios on his own.
“Welcome to Venezuela, Mr. Penn. What drives him is consciousness, the search for new paths,” Chavez said Wednesday in a televised speech. “He’s one of the greatest opponents of the Iraq invasion.”
Chavez said the two plan to meet Thursday. He called the actor “well- informed about what is happening in the United States and the world, in spite of being in Hollywood.“
What are the odds that Penn thinks Venezuela is the land of rainbow sky’s and rivers made of chocolate? Sean Penn, how does it feel to sell your soul to the Devil?
From the NewsBusters: Is it the pinnacle of an anti-American, socialist actor’s career to be praised by an anti-American, socialist dictator?
UPDATE I: Sean Penn meets Chavez in Venezuela
Meet the new Cindy Sheehan, say hello to Sean Penn. Hey Spiccoli, if you think Chavez has all the answers, please move to Venezuela permanently.
Chavez met privately with the 46-year-old actor for two hours Thursday, praising him as being “brave” for urging Americans to impeach President Bush.
Chavez said he and Penn discussed the question of “why the (U.S.) empire attacks Chavez so much,” saying Venezuela’s oil wealth is a key reason.
He also said Washington is “afraid that the people of the United States will learn the real truth” about the situation in Venezuela, citing his social programs for the poor.
“If the people of the United States, those millions and millions of poor people … if that nation realizes what is truly happening here, there would be a revolution in the United States,” Chavez said, eliciting applause from Penn.

True American Hero, Navy Seal Danny Dietz … Statue Unveiled on 4th of July in Memory of Fallen War Hero
Where have all the hero’s gone? Look no further than our Armed Forces. A true American hero honored on a Day meant to remember our freedoms and independence.
July 4, 2007, a statue of US Navy Seal, Danny Dietz, will be unveiled in Berry Park in Littleton, Colorado. The tribute to Danny Dietz, a true hero who was killed in combat in Afghanistan in an al-Quaida ambush. Danny Dietz fought off attackers for 45 minutes before falling himself a long with 18 other brave souls. Dietz was awarded Navy Cross, the Navy’s second-highest medal.
If we ever wondered where the hero’s are, they are right in plain site and fight to defend our freedoms every day.
Then there were others who raised controversy and criticized the statue as they complained that children would see a man holding a gun. Due to the controversy, veterans groups stood guard over the statue until it was unveiled. I guess these people have an issue with most every TV show then as well? Or is it just the military they have an issue with?
Some opponents said the design of the statue with Dietz holding a gun is graphic and violent. Others called it real.
Memorial to SEAL to be dedicated today
Danny Dietz’s sister summed it up the best as to what this statue dedicated to her brother represented:
She said everyone who visits the park and sees the statue will get a true sense of what it means for someone to be a hero…someone who gave his life in order to protect the freedom we all enjoy in America.

Aruban Prosecution of Driver’s License Fraud Ring … Identity Theft? Homeland Security?
Aruba … Maybe you might want to think about the bigger picture on this one.
On the surface it would appear that the Aruban prosecution of seven suspects for charges of bribery, forgery and accepting money for fraudulent driver’s licenses would be a simple isolated event. However, is it? According to Amigo 50 people have bee arrested with fake licenses and the suspects in question to be prosecuted are from Aruba , Colombia , and the Dominican Republic. They are described by Aruban prosecutors as middlemen. Middlemen for what exactly? Is there really a demand in Aruba for the need to drive or have access to a vehicle?
Why would some one need a fake driver’s license in a post 9-11 world? Fake documentation of an individuals records? Where have we read that before? A drivers license is then used in aiding an individual in getting a passport. Wouldn’t it seem a fair assumption that those that wish to pull such scams would do it in places where so little attention is paid to the details?
