Oregon In-State Tuition for Illegal Aliens as Diversity Enrollment … So Much for the term “Illegal”
The underlying topic of the 2008 Presidential race is illegal immigration and how the United States will go forth with this issue.
What part about “illegal” in Illegal Aliens doesn’t out education system get? We are supposed to reward those that break the laws of the US and grant “illegals” the same status as a US College student. The State of Oregon is proposing to allow illegal aliens to get in-state tuition for people in this country illegally. If that’s the case then why don’t these same colleges allow every one in the United States to get in-State tuition. At least those students are in the country legally. Which begs the question, why would these schools even have an in or out of state tuition if they would allow people who should not even be in this country, let alone the state? What do you think would happen to a college student from Iowa that illegally stated he lived in Oregon to get the benefit of the decreased in-state tuition. But some how that’s different.
Why are we providing benefits to those that are “ILLEGAL” when this country cannot provide benefits to its own citizens?
PORTLAND, Ore. — A panel of students, faculty and administrators is proposing charging in-state tuition for undocumented immigrant students at Oregon’s public universities.

Venezuela: Voters Say NO to Hugo Chavez and Indefinite Re-Election …Socialism
The people have spoken and they say “NO” to Hugo Chavez. Victory for the Venezuelan people … Hugo Chavez may have bit off more than he could chew this time. Hey Hugo Chavez … this is going to leave a mark.
President Hugo Chavez said Monday he may have been too ambitious in asking voters to let him stand indefinitely for re-election and endorse a huge leap to a socialist state. (Yahoo News)
Voters of Venezuela voted 51% to 49% defeating Chazez’s referendum that would have let him run for re-election indefinitely and impose a socialist system. At present, the president’s term runs six years, and current law would not allow Chavez to run again after his term ends in 2012. Chavez will not be allowed to run in 2012 for re-election. Think there is not a sigh of relief today at the US State Department and the White House?
Voters defeated the sweeping measures Sunday by a vote of 51 percent to 49 percent, said Tibisay Lucena, chief of the National Electoral Council, with voter turnout at just 56 percent.
She said that with 88 percent of the votes counted, the trend was irreversible.
Opposition supporters shouted with joy as Lucena announced the results on national television early Monday, their first victory against Chavez after nine years of electoral defeats.
Some broke down in tears. Others began chanting “And now he’s going away!” (Fox News)
What does it mean for the people of Venezuela?

Flying the Terror-free Skies, Think Again … Government Investigators Smuggled Bomb Parts Past Airport Screeners in Covert Tests
One might ask the following question: Why have we been waiting in line so long at airport screening check points if this is the results?
So much for checking individuals shaving cream, shampoo and tooth paste at the airports. So much for checking grandma’s walker as well. Government investigators were able to smuggle through airport check screenings at 19 airports bomb parts. Government investigators smuggled liquid explosives and detonators past airport security, exposing a dangerous hole in the nation’s ability to keep these forbidden items off of airplanes.
The covert tests were conducted at Transportation Security Administration, TSA, checkpoints at 19 airports in March, May and June of this year. The airports were not identified. This is announced right before the Thanksgiving holiday and the busiest travel days of the year. I sure many travelers head off to their flights next week feeling safe and assured.
Government investigators smuggled liquid explosives and detonators past airport security, exposing a dangerous hole in the nation’s ability to keep these forbidden items off of airplanes, according to a report made public Wednesday.
The investigators learned about the components to make an improvised explosive device and an improvised incendiary device on the Internet and purchased the parts at local stores, said the report by the Government Accountability Office. Investigators were able to purchase the components for the two devices for under $150, and they studied the published guidelines for screening to determine how to conceal the prohibited items as they went through checkpoint security.
