Controversy Continues Over NJ Gov. Chris Christie’s Whitney Houston Flag Tribute

There has been quite the controversy and uproar over New Jersey Governor Chris Christie’s decision to fly the  flag at half staff on Saturday in NJ for Whitney Houston’s funeral. Christie defended his actions of lowering the flag to half staff at state government buildings on Saturday, the day that Houston’s funeral services would be held in Newark, NJ.

Christie said he didn’t believe that Houston’s history of substance abuse “forfeited the good things she did.”

“I am disturbed by people who believe that because her ultimate demise — and we don’t know what is the cause of her death yet — but because of her history of substance abuse that somehow she’s forfeited the good things that she did in her life,” he said, according to the AP. “I just reject that on a human level.”

“What I would say to everybody is, ‘There but for the grace of God go I,’” he added.

I would ask the following question, yes Whitney Houston is a daughter of New Jersey, yes she was an amazingly talented singer and yes she was also a drug addict along the way. Christie references that her history of drug abuse should not diminish the good things she did. Like what? Did I miss the fact that she was Mother Teresa-like? Seriously, what good things did she do?Whitney Houston was an amazingly talented singer who gave the greatest rendition of the “Star-Spangled Banner” before Super Bowl XXV in from of millions of people worldwide as Gulf W in 1991. However, I am not sure if that rates flags being flown at half-staff.

Rush Limbaugh defended New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s plan to order flags in his state to be flown at half-staff on the day of the late singer Whitney Houston’s funeral, as he briefly dipped his toes in the world of entertainment on his radio show Thursday.

“I have a question. If she did not have in her life a problem with drug abuse and alcohol … we don’t yet know what the cause of death was, but let’s assume that alcohol and drugs had nothing to do with it. Take that out of it. How many of you would be upset that the flag was lowered to half staff?” Limbaugh said.

What is most interesting regarding Rush’s comments is that when El Rushbo ever decides to depart this Earth, the same flag flack will most likely occur.

With all due respect, many instances of flying flags half-staff for entertainers were done prior to 9-11. The attacks of September 11, 2001 kind of put a significance on such an act. My personal belief is that maybe the answer is to fly the state flag at half staff for entertainers. Let’s reserve the US flag for government officials, the military and first responders. Call me old fashion but I just think that there are many more daughters and sons of New Jersey that will have done more than Whitney will pass away and never be provided this honor.

NJ Governor Chris Christie Says He Would Consider Being Mitt Romney’s Vice President

Today on NBC’s ‘Meet the Press,’New Jersey Governor Chris Christie told David Gregorythat he thought in November 2012 he would still be the Governor of the Garden State; however, because he loves his country and his party enough, if he were asked by Mitt Romney to be VP, he would consider it. However, if he were a betting man, he sees himself still as NJ Guv in 2012.

Interestingly enough, a majority of NJ voters see Christie as Vice President.

The key numbers: 55% of New Jersey voters say it is “very likely” or “somewhat likely” that Christie will be the GOP running mate. But nearly seven in 10 voters, or 68%, say the blunt-speaking Christie doesn’t have the right personality for the job.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) said Sunday that he would consider being Mitt Romney’s vice presidential running mate if Romney asked him, but said he remained skeptical that he would ever be on the ticket.

Christie, who previously denied that he was ready to be president but then briefly considered entreaties to run, also appears to have softened his resistance to the idea of being vice president.

“I absolutely believe that, come November 2012, I’m going to be governor of New Jersey and not in any other office,” Christie said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “But the fact of the matter is, if Gov. Romney, who’s going to be our nominee, picked up the phone and called me to talk about this, I love my country enough and I love my party enough to listen.”

Last year, when asked about the idea of being vice president, Christie said, “I don’t think there’s anybody in America who thinks my personality is best suited to being Number Two.”

Chris Christie, the outspoken Republican New Jersey Governor has stated in the past that he would not run for President in 2012. However, according to Newsmax, Christie might just be reconsidering his decision not to enter the 2012 presidential race as they report that the NJ Governor will let top Republican donors know soon. After so many “no’s”, pundits are still floating his name. Then again, there are others that are denying the report and state nothing has changed with Christie.

During the past few weeks, several leading Republican donors and fundraisers have been urging the popular Republican governor to reconsider his decision not to run and to enter the GOP primary.

These Christie supporters note that significant GOP support has remained on the sidelines of the primary fight. Many leading fundraisers have yet to commit to any current primary contender, including frontrunners Rick Perry and Mitt Romney.

Newsmax has learned that the effort to draft Christie culminated in a hush-hush powwow held in the past week with Christie and several notable Republican billionaires.

Christie entering the GOP primary, that would certainly shake up the mix. Earlier this week at an event at Rider College in NJ, Christie commented that the current GOP candidates are not answering the public’s appetite for real leadership.

“I think what the country is thirsting for, more than anything else right now, is someone of stature and credibility to tell them that and say, ‘Here’s where I want us to go to deal with this crisis,’” Christie said.

Christie continued: “The fact that nobody yet who’s running for president, in my view, has done that effectively is why you continue to hear people ask Daniels if he’ll reconsider and ask me if I’ll reconsider.”

What a splash Christie would make if he did decide to run. Many thought that when Texas Governor Rick Perry entered the race, he would fill the void of what GOP voters were looking for. Frankly, Perry’s position on illegal immigration is a disaster and he has been underwhelming in the debates.  Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney is looked upon as being to contrived and too much of a politician … Chris Christie would be a breath of fresh air, would never be at a loss for words and would never beat around the bush.

Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) Says The More the Merrier, A Whole New Cast of Republicans Should Run in 2012

The more the merrier, the GOP needs fresh faces, new ideas and individuals that have made a difference.

Republican US Senator Jim DeMint of South Carolina says that  a whole new cast of Republican candidates should run for the GOP nod for President in 2012. The conservative Senator is correct. The gains made by the GOP in the 2010 midterm elections were not about the status quo, they were about   fresh change of ideas and return to common sense thinking and conservatism. The last thing that the GOP needs as a candidate in 2012 against Obama is a retread or party establishment candidate based on seniority.

Senator Jim DeMint of South Carolina is not interested in running for the Republican presidential nomination, but he said Saturday that the presumed field might not be sufficient to inspire voters and he would welcome a last-minute entry by another candidate.

“If no one is an immediate front-runner,” Mr. DeMint said, “I think you might see a whole new cast of Republican candidates out within the next couple of months.”
