DOJ Appoints Special Counsel Former FBI Director Robert Mueller for Russia Probe

After a death by a thousand Democrat, MSM and anti-Trump cuts, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein has appointed former FBI Director Robert Mueller as the special counsel to investigate the allegations of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and so-called rumors of collusion with the Trump campaign. Mueller is considered an impartial and fair choice as he was appointed FBI Director by President George W. Bush in 2001 and served an extra two years past his ten year term during the Obama administration. Rosenstein said in a statement, that his decision to go forth with an Independent counsel was not that there was a finding that crimes have been committed or that any prosecution is warranted, but because of the unique circumstances and the public interest requires me to place this investigation under the authority of a person who exercises a degree of independence from the normal chain of command. Hmm, something you never heard the politicized DOJ say under Obama.

The United States Department of Justice has announced that a special counsel has been appointed to investigate Russian interference into last year’s presidential election and links or coordination with the campaign of President Donald Trump.

Former FBI Director Robert Mueller was assigned by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to “oversee the previously-confirmed FBI investigation of Russian government efforts to influence the 2016 presidential election, and related matters.”

In a statement, Rosenstein said, “My decision is not a finding that crimes have been committed or that any prosecution is warranted. I have made no such determination. What I have determined is that based upon the unique circumstances, the public interest requires me to place this investigation under the authority of a person who exercises a degree of independence from the normal chain of command.”

“I accept this responsibility and will discharge it to the best of my ability,” said Mueller in a statement.

Mueller will have 60 days to put together a budget for resources to conduct the investigation and that budget must be approved by Rosenstein. Attorney General Jeff Sessions previously recused himself from all matters related to the presidential campaign.

“Special Counsel Mueller will have all appropriate resources to conduct a thorough and complete investigation, and I am confident that he will follow the facts, apply the law and reach a just result,” said Rosenstein in the statement.

Just curious, will this mean the the LEFT will stop their Trump witch hunt now that they got what they wanted in an independent counsel? Not a chance. But what will Democrats and the LEFT do when the investigation turns up nothing? And say right before an election?

The revelation confirms for the first time that a federal surveillance warrant, known as a FISA warrant, was issued for a member of the Trump campaign as part of a federal investigation of potential ties between the Republican’s associates and the Russian government. Hmm, so now we do know that the Obama admin did in fact call for surveillance on Trump campaign team members, contrary to the denials.

The FBI obtained a warrant to monitor President Donald Trump’s former campaign adviser, Carter Page, last summer on suspicions he knowingly engaged in clandestine intelligence activities on behalf of Moscow, The Washington Post is reporting.

The FBI and Justice Department obtained a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act warrant to monitor the communications of Page, who has called himself a junior member of Trump’s foreign policy advisory team, as part of their investigation into possible ties between Trump’s campaign and Russia, the newspaper says, citing unnamed law enforcement and other US officials.

The FBI and Justice Department obtained the warrant after convincing a FISA judge there was probable cause to believe Page was acting as an agent of a foreign government (Russia), the report says. The warrant presents the strongest information to date that the FBI had reason to believe a Trump adviser was in touch with Moscow and met with foreign operatives during Trump’s presidential campaign.

FBI Director James Comey has acknowledged that an investigation was opened last year into Russia’s efforts to influence the election and the question of whether the Trump campaign coordinated with the Kremlin. But Comey stopped short of naming anyone working for the campaign who may have been involved.

Page, however, called the FISA warrant “unjustified” in a statement to CNN’s Manu Raju.

So what was this really? I tend to go along with Hot Air’s premise that this was a back door method of surveiling Trump’s campaign team. If there had been anything, and I mean anything, wouldn’t we know at this point and a crime would have been charged? What we now know is that the Obana administration did surveil Trump’s campaign.

Actually, that’s not quite true. It’s evidence that the Department of Justice sought to surveil Trump campaign figures using intel resources, but not necessarily that they had real evidence and/or a legitimate “reason to believe” that Trump campaign officials were in touch with Russian agents. It’s extremely easy for the government to get approvals for FISA warrants, as we have discovered in the debates over renewals of Section 702 of the PATRIOT Act. That’s actually the crux of the issue: did certain Trump campaign officials knowingly collude with Russian intelligence — or did the Obama administration spy on political rivals in order to impact the election outcome? Both? Neither?

Judicial Watch has filed a lawsuit against the Department of Justice for the records on Loretta Lynch and Bill Clinton’s meeting on the tarmac at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport prior to the 2016 presidential election and during the time in which then candidate Hillary Clinton’s email server was supposedly being investigated by the FBI. The FOIA request asks for all records related to the meeting held between then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch and former President Bill Clinton at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in 2016.

The government watchdog group Judicial Watch has filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the Department of Justice (DOJ) seeking all records its has on the June 27, 2016 meeting between President Bill Clinton and then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch in her airplane, a meeting that occurred while the FBI was investigating Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server, a potential national security crime.

Yeah, no conflicts of interest here or gross appearance of impropriety here, move on.

Judicial Watch announced today that it filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the Department of Justice for records related to the meeting held between then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch and former President Bill Clinton at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in 2016 (Judicial Watch v. U.S. Department of Justice (No. 1:17-cv-00421)).

Judicial Watch filed the lawsuit after the agency failed to respond to a June 29, 2016, FOIA request seeking:

• All records and/or transcripts of a meeting held between Attorney General Loretta Lynch and former President Bill Clinton in June 2016.
• All records of communication sent to or from officials in the Office of the Attorney General regarding the meeting held between Attorney General Loretta Lynch and former President Bill Clinton in June 2016.
• All records of communication sent to or from officials in the Office of the Deputy Attorney General regarding the meeting held between Attorney General Loretta Lynch and former President Bill Clinton in June 2016.
• All references to the meeting held between Attorney General Loretta Lynch and former President Bill Clinton contained in day planners, calendars and schedules in the Office of the Attorney General.

Lynch met privately with former President Bill Clinton on board a parked plane. The meeting occurred during the then-ongoing investigation of Mrs. Clinton’s email server, and only a few days before she was interview by the FBI.  Lynch later admitted that the meeting with Bill Clinton “cast a cloud” over the Justice Department/FBI investigation.  Not long afterward, FBI Director James Comey called Hillary Clinton’s actions “extremely careless” but did not recommend charges.

“The infamous tarmac meeting between President Clinton and AG Lynch is a vivid example of why many Americans believe the Obama administration’s criminal investigation into Hillary Clinton was rigged,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “Now it will be up to Attorney General Sessions at the Trump Justice Department to finally shed some light on this subversion of justice.”

Judicial Watch requested the Justice Inspector General investigate the tarmac meeting.

We already knew that, Trump is a successful business man. The 2005 return also shows that he paid a lot of taxes, $38 million to be exact.

The White House said on Tuesday that President Donald Trump paid $38 million in federal income taxes in 2005 — on $150 million in earnings — offering a small glimpse at the president’s personal finances, which Trump has so far kept almost entirely private.

The administration offered those details in a statement after journalist David Cay Johnston published two pages of tax information about the president, apparently from Trump’s 2005 return. The revelations were simultaneously broadcast on MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow” show, which included an interview with Johnston. Based on the information on the two pages, Trump paid an effective tax rate of about 25 percent.

If MSNBC wanted to do real investigative journalism, maybe they might want to discover how a private citizen’s tax return was illegal gotten?

If the reports are true — and they certainly appear to be — Obamagate is 100 times bigger than Watergate.

In short, a sitting president wiretapped the nominee of the opposition party, before the election, using the security apparatus of the federal government.
