The Navy said Saturday the sailor shot in Thursday’s attack at a military support center in Chattanooga, Tenn. has died.

Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Randall Smith, 24, was one of three people injured when a gunman opened fire at the center, killing four Marines. The shooting is being investigated as an act of domestic terrorism.

Fox News spoke to Smith’s step-grandmother Darlene Proxmire who confirmed he died early Saturday.

Smith was shot three times when a gunman opened fire at the Navy Operational Support Center (NOSC) Thursday morning. He was struck in the right arm, back and stomach, family members told a Kansas newspaper, the Salina Journal, according to the Chattanoogan.

He underwent several surgeries and died around 2:17 a.m. Saturday. His wife and other family members were with him at the hospital when he died.

Those brave men we have lost:

The sailor’s death comes in addition to the four U.S. Marines killed at the scene. They have been identified as Lance Cpl. Squire K. Wells, of Cobb, Georgia; Gunnery Sgt. Thomas Sullivan, of Hampden, Massachusetts; Sgt. Carson Holmquist, of Polk, Wisconsin, and Staff Sgt. David Wyatt, of Burke, North Carolina.

A devastated step-grandmother, Darlene Proxmire, talks about Randall Smith.

Sailor from Paulding one of Chattanooga shooting victims:

His step-grandmother, Darlene Proxmire, told NewsChannel 15 Smith was a great baseball player and even got a scholarship to play in college. She said he hurt his shoulder and joined the Navy shortly after. Proxmire said she first heard about the shooting when a friend left her a voicemail.

“I immediately turned it on CNN and wow it was awful,” Proxmire said.

Smith’s mother is in Chattanooga with him.

“It’s hard to understand how somebody can hurt somebody that’s serving for you. For your freedom, for your safety,” Paula Proxmire said.

Proxmire said she never worried about Smith joining the military.

“Because he was never shipped over there where, you know, the fighting and all that was at,” Proxmire said. “He loved the Navy. He loved it in there.”

It was on U.S. soil when the unthinkable happened.

“It’s terrible,” Proxmire said. “You think oh that’s not going to happen to your family, but by gum it can. It can happen anywhere.”

EXIT QUESTION: How many people must die before we take terrorism seriously in the United States?

Two people are missing and 3 are dead following a pontoon boat accident on the Ohio River. According to authorities, 10 people were believed to be aboard the boat and that four were rescued after the accident shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday. The pontoon boat hit the Clark Memorial Bridge and capsized in the Ohio River. The incident was reported around 9:30 PM on July 4 just as crowds had gathered up and down the waterfront to watch the Independence Day fireworks. Four people were rescued, 3 of the those sent to hospitals are at Korsair Children’s Hospital and are believed to be in stable condition. The fourth was sent to University Hospital and is in unknown condition.

Kentucky authorities say three people were killed and three remain missing after the pontoon boat they were riding in hit the Clark Memorial Bridge and capsized in the Ohio River.

Louisville Fire Department spokesman Capt. Salvador Melendez told The Associated Press on Sunday that 10 people were believed to be aboard the boat and that four were rescued after the accident shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday.

Melendez said the fatalities include two adults and one child. He said a child is also considered to be among the missing.

UPDATE I: Search resumes, crews search for 3 missing in Ohio River.

He said the current of the Ohio River was too swift to send dive teams into the water, leaving crews left to search for the missing on the surface of the water.

“The water is very rapid. We’re unable to put divers in the water due to the current. So we are continuing a search on the surface only using the air unit and things of that nature,” said Louisville Fire Chief Greg Frederick.

The first call to dispatchers came in around 9:28 p.m. as thousands gathered along Waterfront Park for the 4th of July festivities.

A helicopter could be seen above the bridge searching for the missing people just before the fireworks started Saturday evening.

Rescue teams resumed their search at 9 a.m. Sunday with officials locating debris near a New Albany boat ramp.

UPDATE II: 2 Killed, 3 Missing After Boat Capsizes on Ohio River in Kentucky.

A man and a 14-year-old boy are dead and three people were missing today after a boat capsized on the Ohio River near Louisville, Kentucky, officials said.

Nine people were on board when the accident occurred Saturday night, Louisville Fire Chief Gregory Frederick said.

Four people were rescused but three people — two adults and one child — were still missing today, Frederick said. Rescue crews were searching the river for them today, the Coast Guard said.

The group rented a pontoon boat around 8 p.m. Saturday, officials said, and the accident was reported just before 9:30 p.m.

A responding fire boat found the pontoon capsized and pinned underneath a work barge.

29 Year Old Amanda Waller Missing Since 6/25/15 While Snorkeling Along Cas Abou Beach in Curacao (Update: Husband Believes his Wife is Dead)

29 year old Amanda Waller has been missing since Thursday, June 25, 2015 while she was snorkeling with her husband and friends along Cas Abou Beach in the Caribbean island of Curacao. When the snorkeling group returned to shore about 20 minutes later, they realized that Waller was missing. Days of searching by the Coast Guard and volunteer divers have turned up no clues. There have been searches in the water and on the land as it is not known whether Amanda Waller from Katy, Texas made it to shore or not.

Anthony Waller told KHOU that his sister-in-law, Amanda Waller, 29, was snorkeling with her husband and friends along Cas Abou Beach around 3 p.m. Thursday, June 25, when she went missing.

Matt Myers, who was part of that snorkeling group, told KHOU that after snorkeling and taking pictures in the water, one of the women became tired and began swimming to shore.

He says a couple minutes later, Amanda Waller began swimming after her.

However, when the group returned to shore about 20 minutes later, they realized that Waller was missing.

After an unsuccessful search in the water, Myers says they called the Coast Guard, who arrived within 30 minutes to begin the search.

VIDEO below of snorkeling not related to this case but to provide context of what it looks like. The water appears to be calm and extremely clear. It is hard to imagine one could not find a person in such water.

A missing-person alert on the GoFundMe page urges people to call police or the U.S. Embassy if they see Waller.

UPDATE I: Husband of Katy woman missing while snorkeling says wife is dead.

After a week of searching and praying, the victim’s husband posted an update on the gofundme website that read: “Thank you everyone for all the love and support during this tragic event. It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you that based on the conditions of my wife disappearance it is concluded that she passed away on June 25, 2015. Her memory and love still lives within heart of the many lives she touch.”

Donald Featherstone, the Man Who Created the Pink Plastic Lawn Flamingo Dies at Age 79

The man who created the Pink Plastic Lawn Flamingo has died at the age of 79 … Instapundit points out that the plastic pink flamingo is the official city bird of Madison, Wisconsin.

Pink Flamingo2

If you’ve got a plastic pink flamingo on your lawn, give it a pat on the back. The man who designed the lawn art, Donald Featherstone, has died. He was 79.

His wife, Nancy, tells The Associated Press that Featherstone died Monday and that he had battled Lewy body dementia.

A trained sculptor with a background in classical art, Featherstone created the now-ubiquitous pink flamingo in 1957, based on a photo he saw in National Geographic. The flamingo ornament was one of hundreds of items he made for the Union Products plastics company in Leominster, Mass. The AP reports that Featherstone spent 43 years with the company, “rising to the position of president before his retirement in 1999.”

Leominster Mayor Dean Mazzarella announced his passing, calling him a “local classic.”

Mr. Featherstone created the pink flamingo in 1957 after graduating from art school at the Worcester Art Museum. He worked at Union Products in Leominster, and the pink flamingo was one of 750 items he created for the company.

In 1996 Mr. Featherstone was awarded the Ig Nobel Prize in art. The prize is a parody of the Nobel Prizes and given to honor unusual or trivial achievements in scientific research. That year he also was appointed president of Union Products, a post he held until 2000.
