ONE AMERICAN WOMAN DEAD AND 5 INJURED IN LONDON …
A Somali teenager has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was stabbed to death and five people injured in an attack in central London.
Police originally said terrorism could not be ruled out but later said they had “not found any evidence of radicalisation or anything that would suggest the man in our custody was motivated by terrorism.” However, later they called the incident a “random attack” with mental health issues at the heart of it.
The 19-year-old Norwegian, of Somali origin, was Tasered by police outside the Imperial Hotel, in Southampton Row.
He was initially in hospital under armed guard but was this morning moved to a police station and arrested on suspicion of murder, police confirmed.
Norway’s foreign ministry said the teen emigrated from the Scandanavian country to Britain in 2002 when he was five years old.
The American woman, in her 60s, was treated at the scene but she died a short time later.
Five people – two women and three men – were taken to hospital for their injuries.
None of their injuries are life-threatening, police said.
They are British, Israeli and Australian citizens.
Matthew Barzun, US Ambassador to the UK, tweeted: “Heartbreaking news that a US citizen was killed in #RussellSquare attack.
“My prayers are with all the victims and their loved ones.”

The woman who was killed was an American citizen, and the five wounded people, two women and three men, included citizens of Australia, Britain, Israel and the United States, Mr. Rowley said. All were hospitalized, but three were treated and released. Officials at the United States Embassy in London would not identify the victim, but Ambassador Matthew Barzun expressed his condolences on Twitter.

Burglar Dies After Being Tied to a Tree by Homeowner in Alabama

68 year old Nathaniel Johnson finds himself in some hot water as the alleged burglar he tied to a tree has died. According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office in Alabama, around 10 p.m., Cleveland Gully broke the lock, and and was when Johnson tackled him to the ground, tied his hands behind his back and brought him to the tree. Washington County Sheriff Richard Stringer said, “He began to tie him to the tree still in the standing up position.” Stringer went on to say, that Johnson used electrical wire and rope from a clothesline to tie him to the tree and then masking tape, “multiple layers of masking tape that he had wrapped around his mouth and all the way around his head.” Johnson called police; however, when police arrived to the scene, the burglar was dead.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of an alleged burglar who was tied to a tree by a homeowner.
It happened on Spurgeon Road in Leroy late Friday night.
The homeowner is still being questioned.
“I would say this is a very unusual case,” said Washington County Sheriff Richard Stringer.
Stringer has interviewed 68-year-old Nathaniel Johnson all night in the county jail.
Deputies say his attempt to catch an alleged burglar went wrong, killing 31-year-old Cleveland Gully, who lives nearby.
Gully’s uncle is in disbelief his nephew is gone.
“I was surprised that it happened,” Michael Gully said. “He just wasn’t a violent person that I know of.”
According to the story Johnson told deputies, his home had been robbed before, and he wasn’t letting it happen again.

The NTSB is trying to determine exactly what happened that caused the worst hot air balloon accident and fatalities in US history. Personally, I just have never really heard, not would I ever get into a balloon that contained 16 people.

A fire broke out on the balloon but it was not clear whether this happened before or after it hit the electrical wires near the town of Lockhart on Saturday, NTSB board member Robert Sumwalt said.
The balloon’s material was discovered about three-quarters of a mile from the basket, where all of the victims’ bodies were also found, Sumwalt added. The balloon had traveled about 8 miles before falling to the pasture below, he said.
“We’re looking at operation of balloon, pilot, and company that operated the balloon,” Sumwalt said, identifying the operating company as Heart of Texas Hot Air Balloon Rides.
He said the pilot — Skip Nichols — was certified to fly hot air balloons, and the NTSB would be looking at the company’s inspection records.
Nichols was named in a statement from his company, Heart of Texas Hot Air Balloon Rides. The status of his Facebook page was also switched to “remembering,” which the social network activates for users who have died.
Heart of Texas Hot Air Balloon Rides has a Better Business Bureau rating of D+ and a Yelp rating of 1.5 stars, mostly due to complaints about canceled and rescheduled flights.

A hot air balloon carrying at least 16 people caught fire and crashed in a field in central Texas, IN Lockhart, Saturday morning. According to reports, there were no survivors. The Associated Press stated that the balloon was operated by Heart of Texas Hot Air Balloon Rides, which is based in New Braunfels, outside of San Antonio.

Officials with the Texas Department of Public Safety told the Austin American-Statesman newspaper that 16 people were killed when the balloon crashed in Lockhart, about 30 miles south of Austin.
However, federal investigators would not confirm the exact number of deaths. Erik Grosof of the National Transportation Safety Board would only say that there were “a number of fatalities.”
Caldwell County Sheriff Daniel C. Law told The Associated Press that it’s the kind of situation where people can walk up and buy a ticket, unlike an airplane, which would have a list of names.
Late Saturday, two officials told the Associated Press that the balloon was operated by Heart of Texas Hot Air Balloon Rides, which is based in New Braunfels, outside of San Antonio. Local media outlets identified the pilot as Skip Nichols, who owned the business and was believed to be in his late-40s.
On a personal note, my hearts and prayers go out to those lost and their families, but I also have to ask the question … 16 people aboard a hot air balloon? I have honestly never heard of so many people aboard a balloon at one time. Could there have been too much weight on board that made it impossible for the balloon to ascend high enough to avoid the high tension lines?
