Arizona Authorities Search for Second Man in Jared Lee Loughner Tucson Mass Shooting

Arizona authorities as looking for a second individual who might be linked with the mass murder shooting yesterday that left US Rep Gabrielle Giffords in critical condition after being shot in the head, 6 dead and 11 others injured.  At last night’s police press conference,  Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik stated that police are looking for a white male, dark hair, approximately 40-50 years old. However, last night Dupnik did not go into details, not release any pics. Now, authorities are releasing the photo of the man in question.

Authorities said they are not convinced one person was behind a shooting rampage at a town hall-style event Saturday in Tucson, Ariz., that left six dead, including a federal judge, and critically wounded Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, who police said was the target of the attack.

Sheriff Clarence Dupnik, from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, said in a statement that a second person was seen at the location of the shooting, and was possibly associated with the suspect in custody. The person was described as a Caucasian male with dark hair, approximately 40-50 years old, who was last seen wearing blue jeans and a dark blue jacket.

Details remain murky. However, the shooting occurred in a shopping center with chain stores, so video cameras were likely in the vicinity and authorities may have more footage to help them with the investigation.

Newsflash to Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik political hack, maybe you should have released the photo of the man you were looking for last night in the presser, rather than jumping to conclusions, advancing your adenda, speculating and blaming “prejudice & vitriole” for the shooting.

UPDATE I: Suspect in attack on congresswoman acted alone

Federal prosecutors brought charges Sunday against the gunman accused of attempting to assassinate Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and killing six people at a political event in Arizona.

Investigators said they carried out a search warrant at Jared Loughner’s home and seized an envelope from a safe with messages such as “I planned ahead,” “My assassination” and the name “Giffords” next to what appears to be the man’s signature. He allegedly purchased the Glock pistol used in the attack in November at Sportsman’s Warehouse in Tucson.

Um, gee Sheriff Dupnik, who is fanning the divisive flames?

How disgusting and low must one be than to co-opt a tragedy for your own political gain? Even during President Obama speech (VIDEO) this afternoon, he called for people to come together, support each other and pray for Gabrielle Giffords and the other victims and their families, even if Obama said, “Gabby was a friend of mine”. I think he meant “is”. It is too bad Sheriff Clarence Dupnik could not do so.

During tonight’s police press conference regarding the shooting of U.S. Rep Gabrielle Giffords and others at a Tucson grocery and shooter Jared Loughner, Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik made a simply rotten comment.  Dupnik blamed Arizona’s “prejudice, bigotry and vitriol” for the shooting. Far be it a crazed, loner, pot smoking loser that be held responsible for his actions.

Isn’t this something. These comment come from the same individual, Sheriff Clarence Dupnik, who called the Arizona Immigration law unwise, stupid and racist and said he would not enforce it. No agenda here, is there by Sherif  Dupnik rather than focusing on those killed and wounded by the gunman.

According to all reports, the suspect Jared Lee Loughner has not cooperated with police or provided a motive as to why he went on a shooting spree. How is it on the very day that America, namely Arizona is traumatized by this mass murder shooting, that the Sheriff in charge blames Arizona for their “prejudice and bigotry”? Seriously Dupnik, why don’t you just man up and blame AZ governor Jan Brewer, Sarah Palin, Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hanity,  Glenn Beck and the Tea party for the murders. Breaking: U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords (AZ-D) was shot in the head   outside a grocery store in Tucson while holding a public event. Also, several others have been reported injured in the event. ABC News is reporting 12 other injured in the shooting. Now it is being said that there are up tp 15 people injured in the shooting, including at least 3 members of Giffords’ staff. It is also being reported that the gunman is in custody by police. The gunman reportedly shouted something prior to the shooting.

Gabrielle Giffords was shot at point blank range at approximately 10 AM local time. As reported at The Hill,  a gunman ran up and started shooting indiscriminately as Giffords was talking to a couple. The man then fled, but was tackled by a bystander and taken into custody.

The 40-year-old Democrat, who was re-elected to her third term in November, was hosting a “Congress on Your Corner” event at a Safeway in northwest Tucson when a gunman ran up and started shooting, according to Peter Michaels, news director of Arizona Public Media.

At least nine other people, including members of her staff, were hurt. Giffords was transported to University Medical Center in Tucson. Her condition was not immediately known.

Giffords was talking to a couple when the suspect ran up and fired indiscriminately from about four feet away, Michaels said.

The suspect ran off and was tackled by a bystander. He was taken into custody. Witnesses described him as in his late teens or early 20s.

UPDATE II: NPR is reporting that Gabrielle Giffords has died. Listening to FOX News, it was reporting that there were multiple fatalities.

Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and six others died after a gunman opened fire at a public event on Saturday, the Pima County, Ariz., sheriff’s office confirms.

The 40-year-old Democrat, whowas re-elected to her third term in November, was hosting a “Congress on Your Corner” event at a Safeway in northwest Tucson when a gunman ran up and started shooting, according to Peter Michaels, news director of Arizona Public Media.

Oh dear God, what is wrong with people? A Congresswoman simply meeting with her constituents opens fire and just wounds and kills anyone in the area. Now we learn that Giffords has died along with others. There are no words that can describe man’s inhumanity to man. This is just horrendous.

UPDATE IV: OMG, FOX NEWS is reporting from a source that Gabrielle “Gabby” Giffords is alive and in critial condition. Please let this be the case, that in the fog of news, that Congresswoman Giffords is still alive.Brett Baier from Fox News further commenting that the hospital in Tuscon, AZ is reporting that Giffords si still in surgery and in critical condition. They have three sources that are stating she is still alive. SAY A PRAYER FOR GABRIELLE GIFFORDS AND THOSE OTHERS SHOT.

“I am horrified by the senseless attack on Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and members of her staff.  An attack on one who serves is an attack on all who serve.  Acts and threats of violence against public officials have no place in our society.  Our prayers are with Congresswoman Giffords, her staff, all who were injured, and their families.  This is a sad day for our country.”

UPDATE V: Yahoo reporting that Giffords; aide has died.

Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., was shot in the head and an aide killed Saturday when an assailant opened fire in an area where the lawmaker was meeting with constituents in Tucson, congressional officials said.

An unknown number of others was injured, these officials said, including additional aides to the lawmaker. They were taken to a nearby hospital.

Description of the lone gunman from Gawker:

The gunman was young, mid-to-late 20s, white, clean-shaven with short hair and wearing dark clothing and said nothing during the shooting or while being held down, although he struggled at first. He was “not particularly well-dressed”; he didn’t look like a businessman, but more of a “fringe character,” Rayle said. The sheriff’s department arrived, arrested the gunman and cordoned off the parking lot.

UPDATE VI: Shepard Smith of Fox News reporting Police have said that they are looking for a possible second suspect. Also 19 people have been shot od which 5 have died.

UPDATE VII: Federal Judge John M. Roll was among the wounded. Now reported that Judge Roll has died.

I am wondering if they got the name spelled wrong, as there is a 22 year old male who lives in Tuscon, AZ named Jared L Loughner, according to white pages. UPDATE IX: Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik Press Conference confirms that Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was the target of the shooting and that Jared Lee Loughner did not act alone. They believe he had an accomplice, a white male in their 50′s. Dupnik stated that they had a photo of the man; however, they are not releasing it.

In a press conference Saturday night, Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik said Giffords was the intended target in the shooting and he described the suspect as one with a criminal record and one with mental issues. Dupnik also said he was “not convinced” that the suspect acted alone, but he declined to elaborate.

Six people were killed in today’s shooting, including U.S. District Judge John Roll, Giffords aide, 30 year old Gabe Zimmerman who was Giffords’ community outreach director, and 9 year old Christina Taylor Green. 

Also killed was 9-year-old Christina Taylor Green of Tucson.

A neighbor was going to the Giffords event and invited Christina along because she thought she would enjoy it, said her uncle, Greg Segalini.

Christina had just been elected to the student council at her school. The event, held outside a Safeway supermarket north of Tucson, was an opportunity for constituents to meet Giffords and talk about any concerns they had related to the federal government.
