If you ever needed to know anything when it comes to GM (Government Motors) all you have to do is read the very comments from their new Chairman, Edward E. Whitacre Jr … he knows nothing of cars.
“I don’t know anything about cars,” Whitacre, 67, said yesterday in an interview after his appointment. “A business is a business, and I think I can learn about cars. I’m not that old, and I think the business principles are the same.”
What to make a bet that all industries are not the same and that a certain amount of expertise in the field that one is leading does not make a difference? Every wonder why the government should never get involved in corporate America? They believe for an auto company to succeed, “success doesn’t hinge on automotive experience.” Sorry, but a working knowledge of the industry is required … not all industries are created the same … that’s only in socialism.
The White House said Ford Motor Co. Chief Executive Officer Alan Mulally’s move from planemaker Boeing Co. shows that success doesn’t hinge on automotive experience. Ford is the only major U.S. automaker to avoid bankruptcy.
“What was required was somebody with savvy, big-business experience that could take a company, change its management culture, make some of those tough decisions to put it on that path toward viability,” Press Secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters at a briefing today.
Experience be damned, this is what happens when you let government get involved.

well, he and barack botswana should get along well because he knows nothing about cars and botswana knows nothing about being a president.
Well that’s par for course isn’t since Barack Hussein Obama doesn’t not jack about running a Country but yet he bought the position anyway.

Of course it doesn’t depend on knowledge of cars silly; GM is now all about spreading the wealth around. Once they appointed a Law school drop-out has head of the GM/Chrysler bankruptcies, who has never had a real job in his life – you didn’t expect it to get better did you?
Explain to me how anyone thought the “commander in chief” would appoint someone with more experience than himself!
Keep in mind, Lee Iacocca knew nothing about cars and he turned Chrysler Corporation around at the time of it’s former revival.
I once worked for an English company that built a new sanitaryware (toilets) plant in North Carolina. They wanted to break with many of the “habits” and methods of the past so they hired people who knew nothing about the process or the product, including the general manager. The plant was closed within a year and a half.

Lee Iacocca was a vice president of Ford and was responsible for the Mustang before he took over Chrysler.
well, the new is wearing off and the excuse of “i inherited this mess from bush” is no longer being accepted, and finally, i’ve saved 600,000 jobs that the obama administration can’t seem to document, people are beginning to see what a loser they voted in as president.

When you have a government by an illeagle alien, who knows how to steal votes by using the unions and ACORN along with the Democratic Party thiefs, what can one expect. This is a power grab and a way to walk all over our Constitution.
Lee Iacocca had many years of automotive company experience with Ford. At one time he was on the fast track to become the president of Ford.
The congress needs to get busy and trim Barry’s sails by declaring all the “Carzs” unconstitutional.
This whole crazy,illeagle “bankruptcy” proceedings with the car companys needs to be brought to a halt by the Supreme Court. Barry and crooks need to be made to follow the rule of law.

I think my theory was more along the line of….does it really take a person with a background in the Automotive industry to succeed in running a company successfully. What about a a extremely capable businessman/woman? Some of the most successful leaders in business history excel at their ability of being able to run a business and understand, motivate, manage and inspire those who are experts who specialize in the type of business they are already in. True?
(An example—look at Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream. If 2 Hippies from Vermont can own and run a multi-million dollar empire…isn’t the sky the limit? They began selling icecream out of the back of a broken down van and built a thriving company which began from a dream, a little bit of luck, a lot of hard work, hiring the right people, and using the right ingredients, gimmicks & PR on top of producing a quality product.)

The bankruptcies have gone through and I don’t think it’s possible to put that back into the tube.
