Chalk Another One Up For The Good Guy’s
Add another one to the list of terrorist that will no longer pose a threat to anyone. Haitham al-Yemeni meets his demise on the Afghan-Pakistani border.
A senior al Qaeda operative was killed by a missile fired from a CIA Predator aircraft on the Pakistani side of the remote area near the Afghan border earlier this week, U.S. intelligence officials told ABC News.
Haitham al-Yemeni, a native of Yemen known for his bomb-making skills, had been tracked for some time in the hope that he would help lead the United States to al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, intelligence officials said. But with the recent capture in northwest Pakistan of Abu Faraj al-Libbi, thought to be al Qaeda’s No. 3 man, officials worried al-Yemeni would soon go into hiding, and decided to take action.
Al-Yemeni was in line to replace al-Libbi, intelligence analysts said.
Let me be one to say, NOT ANY MORE HE WON’T.
According to Pakistan they were denying the reports of Al-Yemeni’s death near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border due to the political problems that it would crate for President Pervez Musharraf.

Now take a look at how CNN feels the need to NEGATIVELY report on this same story. This network wonders why its viewership is nil.
There had been hope he might lead authorities to Osama bin Laden or other top al Qaeda leaders, the sources said.
One of the sources who spoke with CNN disputed al-Yemeni’s importance, saying as recently as last month, he did not occupy that high of a level in al Qaeda.
“…Though I suppose you can’t rule it out entirely,” the source added.
What was your unidentified source CNN? An al Qaeda operative? To add insult to injury upon watching CNN today discussing this event with a presumed expert it was said and I summarize, “Killing al-Yemeni would not have made that much a difference as he was not high on any watch list and also the killing of any terrorist individuals would not matter as al-Qaeda now exists it over 60 countries.”
So let me understand that the killing of any terrorists is not going to make a difference in the war on terror? The death or capture of Bin Laden, AL-Zarqawi, Al-Libbi or al-Yemeni will not make a difference? It certainly couldn’t hurt CNN that’s for sure.
As just an aside, when are we going to use these Predator aircraft on the US/Mexican border?

in what way do you think that CNN was NEGATIVE? The story looks pretty much the same as the FoxNews story.
Sorry, I did not read far enough down in your post…. However, the cost of killing individual terrorists with Predators has got to be in the millions. If that is the way we get them all, it might bankrupt us before we are done.
Mark,
What part about the added CNN comments that he was of no value don’t you quite get?
“One of the sources who spoke with CNN disputed al-Yemeni’s importance, saying as recently as last month, he did not occupy that high of a level in al Qaeda.

Also what part about the CNN news coverage on TV is difficult to comprehend? The point that they were making that it was of no big deal. The point that is in the Fox story is the issue of where it took place and the dispute that it occurred.
PLEASE READ AN ENTIRE POST AND LINKED NEWS STORIES BEFORE COMMENTING.
It does not take a brain surgeon to figure out that CNN slants a negative view seemingly on what should be positive stories. Where is the Fox coverage did they mention the target was of little to no value?
Mark,
What’s the next excuse for the war on terror? I hardly think they send up a Predator just to kill “ONE” terrorist. They do surveillance with them and if one mole happens to pop his head up well then this is what happens.
Predators are one of the greatest benefits to come from these conflicts. They have been revamped to do all sorts of things that they were never originally designed to do.
The fact that a surveillance plane can have a hellfire missile attached to it greatly lowers the identification time to taking out a target. That most likely saves money.
