As Barack Obama takes office today and becomes America’s first black President, he will be calling on us to embrace a new era of responsibility. This is an issue that we will delve into much more in the future; however, shouldn’t the era of responsibility start in Washington, DC first? If you were really serious about responsibility you’re first act would actually be to make politicians responsible to their word and the people.
Americans poured into the nation’s capital to celebrate the inauguration of their first black president. But with the U.S. in its worst economic crisis since the Depression and at war on two fronts, Barack Obama was expected to call on the country to embrace a new culture of responsibility when he takes office at noon.
The inaugural crowd Tuesday could reach two million people, one of the largest gatherings in Washington’s history. Millions more will be watching across the U.S. and around the world, with outdoor video screens planned for public squares.
We will post on this in much greater length; however, responsibility begins at the top. Obama best get his houses in order first before he expects the American people to embrace responsibility. Who is to say they have not been? Was it “We the People” who caused the subprime mortgage debacle and the greed on Wall Street? Was it “We the People” who caused already existing oversight Housing committees, headed by Democrats, that allowed Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to implode? Was it “We the People” who have voted on billions of dollars of bail out packages to companies who have abused the process?
Responsibility means to not burden future generations with trillions of debt. That used to mean something.
It is not the people that stopped being responsible, it is a government who cares more for themselves, their pay raises, their camera time and their partisan bickering rather than doing the work of the people. That does not mean creating a socialist nanny government, it means protecting where you should and letting us be able to prosper.
One last time to President-elect Obama, the Senate and the House … you work for us.

UPDATE I: Obama takes power, urges unity vs. ‘raging storms’
Barack Hussein Obama claimed his place in history as America’s first black president Tuesday, summoning a dispirited and divided nation to unite in hope against the “gathering clouds and raging storms” of unfinished war and grave economic woe. A jubilant crowd of more than a million waited for hours in frigid temperatures to witness the moment as a young black man with a foreign-sounding name took command of a nation founded by slaveholders.
“What is required of us now is a new era of responsibility – a recognition, on the part of every American, that we have duties to ourselves, our nation, and the world, duties that we do not grudgingly accept but rather seize gladly,” Obama said. “This is the price and the promise of citizenship.”
UPDATE II: Obama’s inaugural address can be read HERE. Looks like all were not pleased with Obama’s speech. The New Republic called it “A Disappointing Hodgepodge.” Personally, I believe the time for talk is over. We have had enough rhetoric and promises of a better day. Its time to act.
UPDATE III: So much for can’t we all get along and peace, love and harmony as Barack Obama repudiates Bush Era in Address. Also, nice to see that the Obama audience showed the class and dignity that we all knew they had in them as theymocked GWB. Even Obama took shots at President GWB. Obama will learn a lesson from all this and that is he is supposed to act like a grown up and lead. The election and speeches are over. You wanted the job, so the burden is now on you, including the criticism.
The day was even icier for former President George W. Bush, who was greeted with boos when he took the inaugural stage. A chant broke out somewhere along the packed Mall and soon thousands near the Capitol joined in: “Nah nah nah nah, hey hey, goodbye.” The man who had helped America weather Sept. 11 smiled stoically.
And Sen. Joe Lieberman, a former Democratic vice-presidential candidate turned independent who endorsed Sen. John McCain for president, brought a cackle of boos from the once-jovial crowd. “Traitor!” one man yelled at the giant screen.
Even the man who had come to unite all Americans could not put aside the sometimes vitriolic rhetoric that propelled him to the presidency.
“The time has come to set aside childish things,” said the Democrat who ran against Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and then Mr. McCain, but who often used his campaign speeches to deride the man he sought to succeed in the White House. “Our time of standing pat, of protecting narrow interests and putting off unpleasant decisions, that time has surely passed,” he said as the now-gray-haired Mr. Bush looked on.
It appears the lack of class has not been lost by Floppy Aces either. I thought this was supposed to be a new era, a new Presidency, one that chose “hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord.” Looks like that is nothing more than lip service, what a shock.
After all, we saw that from the top down, Obama’s swipe at Bush in an interview last Friday was followed by Rahm Emanuel, now White House Chief of Staff, using the phrase “last eight years” as a pretext to excuse whatever missteps Obama might make.
The Gateway Pundit has the video of Bush’s final abuse as President. Obama and his people think that this will pave the way for The One to get a free pass and be embraced by Republicans? They sadly and ignorantly have drawn the line in the sand and think they are above reproach. They are sadly mistaken.
UPDATE IV: US. Stocks Slide in Dow Average’s Worst Inauguration Day Drop
What did the US markets think of Obama taking the reigns … worst Inauguration Day decline ever. It was stated that Wall Street spoiled the party; however, maybe Wall Street does not believe the rhetoric or is scared of socialism. I guess the Markets did not get the memo that they are supposed to be happy by government take over. If the markets had gone up, all we would have heard is that its a reaction to Obama and his positive message. Instead, silence. Obama can do no wrong although he will soon learn that the negative news of reality is on his shoulders. Pomp and circumstance does not impress the real world.
U.S. stocks sank, sending the Dow Jones Industrial Average to its worst Inauguration Day decline, as speculation banks must raise more capital sent financial shares to an almost 14-year low.

First priority of Obama must be for him to

The President of The United States of America job is

He placed the responsibility of getting us out of this mess on Washington and asked for our help. He told the world that our friends would get all the help they need from us, and that our enemies would get their a$$ handed to them.

I say both…I know many people of all races and creeds who are still very caught up with keeping up with the Jones’s. Big screens, new cars, shiny shoes. When you can’t pay with cash don’t buy it, I’m sorry but alot of Americans need to take a class on personal fiscal responsibility. I see friends, family and strangers who cry woe is me when they loose their jobs and can’t make payments on all their toys. And please read the fine print before you sign all contracts, there is no excuse.
I’ve currently been un-employed for a year, by choice, watched my 401k go to half and I’m still here alive and kicking. Free of foreclosure, getting training in a new career and going on a tropical vacation for a week, why? Because I stored money, didn’t buy more than I needed, always remembered that a rainy day could be just around the bend. Now I know that there are different circumstances but ultimatly we are each responsible for ourselves.
But on the other hand, boy did we get screwed! I believe responsibility starts at home, the TOP will screw you every chance it gets JMO.
So go ahead – throw the banana’s! I’ll freeze them for rainy day fruit shakes!

I do not like Obama and did not vote for him. I feel he is less than honest about himself and his intentions.
He is being heardled as a change maker. Change for what? His promises hold the smae emptiness as his predisessors. When any controvesy pertaining to him arrises it is quickley swept under the carpet.Typical manuever of a shady politian.
What about his responsibility to the people? I see no difference in the “plan” than in past Presidents.
To quote people who have discussed their reason for voting for him:
“I finally got to vote for a Black President”
If that is your reasoning behind your vote you are in for one heck of a disappointment.
It has nothing to do with race, it has to do with capability and desire to help the ‘people’. None of these resemble Obama.

I don’t think that even Obama’s worst detractors would deny his ability as an effective and moving speaker. Now, in the next four years, or possibly more, we will see how things go with his handle on the tiller.
Nobody knows what challenges we may face. Two years from now, as (if) we look back, there may be new perils and new achievements.
Let’s hope that we can unify and work together.
I wish, though, that the media could show just a little dignity, and concentrate on the inaugural speech and similar items of importance.

I work in a garage, I see all kinds of people everyday, but these younger folks have just about got on my last lick with the (U white people just wait ya’ll are gonna see what’s it’s like now that we got us a black president in office) well I have been saying I thought he was half WHITE also and what are we waiting to see.. I thought OBAMA said in his speech there was no color in America… to me the only reason there is still racist is people who want to keep it alive.. and lately I have seen alot!!

Susan~We may have elected the previous administration, but we DID NOT start the CRA, that happened under Carter’s watch and was ramped up under Clinton’s. The banks were forced toloan money to thise who fell into a non-conforming loan standard, when some banks refused, they were penalized. SO, congress knew, Obama’s buddies and Freddie and Fannie knew, yet when the republicans wanted to bring a bill to the florr, the dems shot it down. Oh, everything is great??? WTF, everything was not so great.
I honestly don’t expect much from an Obama administration, never did much for Illinois nor as a legislature. His record speaks volumes (less than zero)

Allow me to join all other Americans in congratulating you upon your accession to our highest office today and in expressing our conviction that you will address the many issues that cry out for solutions.
Not the least of these issues is the case of Natalee Holloway, an American citizen who disappeared on May 30, 2005, while on a high-school graduation trip to Aruba. The particular significance of this tragedy is that, soon after she vanished, it became apparent that elements of Aruba’s government and law enforcement were complicit in protecting certain individuals on that island from prosecution. As early as June of that year, Federal Bureau of Investigation special agents sent to assist with the ‘investigation’ expressed outrage at being used only as window-dressing and playing no effective role.
A full review of Aruban falsehoods, distortions, and evasions would require more time than you could give. Suffice it to say that the family of Natalee Holloway has been, since that time, striving to obtain justice from an intransigent foreign government. There is still no sign that Aruba will change its ways.
Pitting an isolated American family, seeking answers in their daughter’s disappearance, against a government is perhaps the most unequal challenge that can be made. Many Americans, myself among them, in response have urged a voluntary tourism boycott of Aruba, which is said to rely on our visitors for eighty percent of its economy. We shall continue to do so: our primary credo is that a nation which, to protect its own, denies justice to an American family is no fit destination for our travelers.
This is a crucial time: in recent months, Aruba has signaled its determination to close this case. We cannot act in Aruba, but we can act at home to signal, as you said in your inaugural speech: “To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit … know that you are on the wrong side of history.”
Your predecessor in office seemed indifferent towards this case. Yours is the most powerful voice in our land to speak out. Doing so would, indeed, signal that change has come in which we can believe.

With all my heart and soul, I will try not to judge this man before he’s had a chance to serve in office. I am a conservative, and I voted for John McCain. We all must remember that he is the first black man to be the President of the United States. This is a great accomplishment for them as a race. I can’t blame them for dancing in the streets. We must all remember that we live in this world together. This does not mean that I agree with his policies. It means that I want whats best for my beloved country. We must pray that God inspires President Obama, and he becomes a great President. This would be good for our whole country.

WELL SUSAN~ you are terribly misinformed regarding the banks being forced to loan money, they were indeed penalized if they didn’t loan $$ to the “certain members” who where shoved down the their throat by the communit organizers……..do you even understand the CRA, Obama’s buddies ran FHLMC and FNMA into the ground along with a few other democrats. I DID NOT vote for a single democrat ever, so I didn’t elect bride of satan – Pelosi or Harry Reid – the idjit. The republicans brought there issues with what was happening to FHLMC and FNMA to the floor, but Chris Dodd and Barney Frank and most other democrats (who were in sweetheart deals with the mortgage banks )din’t allow it to come to a vote. Okay, so we have a new president. I wish him well, will pray for him and hope he can lead us out of this mess – but I remain a skeptic! It bothers me greatly to continually hear these comments about “a new declaration of independence”, or remaking America, blah, blah…
The structure of our country has worked well for over 200 years. Perfect? No. But we have been the most free and successful nation that has ever existed.Free for everyone? No. Fair to everyone? No. Prosperous for all? No! But try finding someplace else better! We don’t need to remake America, we need to find where we got off track, go back to what worked for 200 years, and this time make it fair and free for all.
But Nooooooooooooo! We’ve got to throw it all away, make something new and hope it will be better. That’s what I’m hearing.

Do your research on him, I did. I work in an industry that sells MBS and ARMS, so I know how mark to market has effected valuations and destroyed the balance sheet of banks etc. I also know how the CRA is factored into that……..when you have FHLMC and FNMA’s assets in the hands of the greedy and Congress won’t don;t anything to address the issue of NINJA loans and new “non conforming standards”, well that hurt EVERYBODY, credit is tight to non-existent and without that you have small business owners in a bind or going out of business.. that’s a huge problem for an economy on the brink. Yeah, I loved watching the bond and stock market bottom out today….Great for welfare, not so much for capitalism.

It’s been a five day coronation, I can’t tell you how many dvd’s I’ve watched this weekend. Also, when you consider there were 40,000 LE, National guard etc covering him, well that’s 9,000 more than we have in Afghanistan and a the most costly “party” in history during a time of war and a deep recession-well, it’s just in poor taste. But, it is what it is, another no job daddy living in government housing.

I work for the federal government, and today we were invited to watch the festivities, on our lunch and breaks. Surprisingly, the same option/party! was not allowed or promoted in 2004. Additionally, the Hatch Act means you cannot promote your candidate during the campaign, but after the campaign, the federal union came out with a memo that you can display mementos or iconic pics of your candidate, anytthing campaign related, because in the government’s eyes, it no longer matters, as the election is over. The again surprising thing, is that this was not offered in 2004. Now, not to blow your minds, but the federal union is blatantly dem, and many sport bumper stickers on their cars declaring the fact. I am furthered repelled by this work environment considering the fact that when Wellstone died, many in the office made it blatantly clear that they thought President Bush was behind it. I now work in an agency where i take great pride in helping people, but i worry about the inconsistencies, and the fact that the media plays a huge part in choosing who runs this country. It is mind control.

Remember when Bush came into office, they took the W’s off of all of the keyboards? They spent 8 years constantly negative?
Today, when Bush attends the inaugeration, HE IS Booed and those close to the stage (read this to mean those with high up connections) start singing Nah Nah Nah Nah Good Bye?
Obama rips the policies of the prior administration with his predecessor sitting feet from him. A black guy gets up and preaches to ‘whitey’ to ‘get it right’….ahhhh the politics of hate!
Bush is a class act. You won’t see H’s ripped from keyboards and you won’t EVER see him say a negative thing about Obama’s policies (unlike Jimmy Carter). It had to make him weep inside to see the keys to the car being handed over to a bunch of people who do not know what the words ‘civility’ and ‘class’ are.
I can’t wait for the next four years of blaming Bush for why Obama can’t straighten things out. At some point it will get old…hopefully, in the off year election.
Democrats have again shown their true colors today. Mean spirited, negative people who do not have an ounce of class. What is funny, is that you see the people in Washington, the media, etc. trumpeting today as a day where everyone is being brought together by this man.
People say give him a chance. Should we give him the same chance that Democrats gave George Bush?

Obama was ALLOWED to be president by those in the democratic party who were salivating to get back into power. Sad and dark day for America Jan 20th was. Fact Obama is black (or 1/2 black) is no big deal to me. Personally, I wanted to see Condi Rice run! I only want the best person for the job who understands and LOVES our Constitution…another item he has threatened to “rewrite”. Sadly, we are about to get exactly what we deserver for allowing an honorable country to get into the condition it now is. Those who do love what this nation is meant to be do nothing…and those who hate it scream the loudest and march about like fools yelling “hey, hey, ho, ho…we want our way or else you know!” That’s about all they got to offer, but it’s making a difference because the mindless are listening.
I listened to a broadcast with an older gentleman who was a professional hypnotist for years and no longer practices. He said that Obama has been “very, well, trained in how to use his voice and body language to mesmerize his audience.”
Yikes! This guy also said that this type of tactic normally only works on people who are unable to think for themselves as there are those who cannot be hypnotized. Individuals who are strong in spirit are resistant, but the rest are basically sheeple/lemmings and you can suggest anything and with the proper application of authority…you got ‘em hook, line and sinker.

Regulators backed off of their report on the GSEs, so it could have been handled before it became a problem.

This allowed the same thing to occur that occured in the 80s, except this time, McCain didn’t have to tell the regulators to back off of the GSEs.
Later in 2005 Hagel proposed a bill to reregulate the GSEs. A Republican dominated Congress let it die. You know that Republican dominated Congress that would do anything Bush wanted?

Thanks for the laugh this morning since in the last 8 years republicans blamed everything on Clinton (even dug deep,skipped a few presidents, and blamed Carter).
