What a disgrace! The sad reality is none of us are all that shocked or surprised. Another sad reality is that The Mitchell Report probably barely scratched the surface of the issue of steroids and performance enhancing drugs in baseball.
As a life long baseball fan I find it amazing that a sport that would be so concerned with spit balls, corked bats and pine tar on baseball bats would completely disregard the idea that steroids and performance enhancement drugs were being used.

It is sorry that the pro level of baseball evolved to this. Some of the MLB athletes rival NFL and WWE for what they did to their bodies to try and achieve better performance. I am not so certain whether most fans either mind or care as long as these guys perform on the field for the big money the fan pays for a ticket. Does the government belong in these affairs? Why not just tolerate it for the sake of sports entertainment. All of Barry Bonds steroids never bought the Giants a World Series ring… but maybe he was entertaining as a batter for the fans. Geneticly engineered athletes are not a new phenomena.
Every sport has its demons with this problem be it blood doping, steroids, HGH…. The athletes want a genie in a bottle so they can have a competitive edge, or get richer contracts through increased strength, endurance and better stats. I think its a locker room mentality or disease that probably started at the high school level and crept into the minors and pros some 20 years ago.
I think where the emphasis needs to be put on this is through wellness programs, and sports nutrition education at the high school, college, and minor league levels to bring up clean athletes in the future.
Same as Gold Medal winner Marion Jones gave up her medals but for me she proved she’s real, she has a conscience, and she believes in GOD. When I watched the Congressional hearings and all those athletes said they plead the right to remain silent, well, that’s the equivalent of a “guilty”. All those records are worthless.
