Iowa Mom, Marcy Gant, Attempted to Sell 4-Year-Old Son to Pay for Wedding Dress

Once again we are presented with another NON-Mother of the Year candidate. This time the candidate hails from Davenport, Iowa where 32 year old Marcy Gant tried to sell her 4 year old son to a retailer to pay for her wedding dress. Who honestly thinks to sell their child to pay for a product?

You just can’t make this stuff up. That’s too bad because one would hope that such sad stories were works of fiction. Just another example that maybe people should have a license to give birth to children

DAVENPORT, Iowa  —  A Davenport woman received five years of probation Thursday for attempting to sell her 4-year-old son to help pay for a wedding dress.

Marcy Gant, 32, was convicted in October of purchase or sale of an individual and could have been sentenced up to 10 years in prison.

Gant was arrested in October 2006 after offering her son to a retailer to settle a $200 bill for the dress. Police said Gant offered the trade at least twice.

Gant’s sons, ages 4 and 10 at the time, have been removed from the home by Iowa Department of Human Services.

Prosecutor Julie Walton requested prison time for Gant, citing “out-of-control behavior” fueled by alcoholism.

   What some people THINK

   will make them HAPPY

   is usually always their Children…

   Perhaps, it will be better, for both,

   to leave things as they are.

   She is either too young,

   mentally slow,

   Bi-Polar,

   Or

   Mentally Abusive…

   .

   Hope she enjoys the “After” party.

   .

   The kids are better off where they are

   or

   with a family member…

   You’re right, Red … if I read about this in a story somewhere, I’d laugh at such a preposterous idea. Actually, given the extent of human trafficking and child trafficking in the world today, it’s very definitely NOT funny.

   Anyone think that a whipping in the public square would be more appropriate? Maybe we really DO need to revert to some of those Puritan punishments.
